Biography

Nikolai Knyazev was born on August 4, 1923 in the village of Bolshiye Sushniki (now the Sunsky district of the Kirov region). Got primary education, after which he worked on a collective farm. In May 1942, Knyazev was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since February 1943 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. Participated in battles near Rzhev and Velizh, was wounded four times. Returning to the front, he participated in the liberation of the Ukrainian SSR. By December 1943, Sergeant Nikolai Knyazev commanded a machine gun crew of the 1237th Infantry Regiment of the 373rd Infantry Division of the 52nd Army of the 2nd Ukrainian Front. He distinguished himself during the liberation of Cherkasy and the Korsun-Shevchenko operation.

On December 13, 1943, during the reflection of a German counterattack on the eastern outskirts of Cherkassy, ​​Knyazev destroyed more than 40 enemy soldiers and officers, firing from two machine guns (his own and a neighboring one, whose calculation was out of action). In one of the following battles he was seriously wounded. In December 1944 he was demobilized. He returned home disabled.
