Dress with very long sleeves. Floor-length dress with long sleeves - a versatile model for any look

The most obvious advantage of modern fashion is its democratic nature. Fashion does not give clear guidelines about styles and colors, so every woman can express herself by choosing clothes that suit only her.

Until recently, floor-length dresses with long sleeves were associated exclusively with evening fashion for most girls. But lately, many wear such clothes as everyday.

Modern designers are increasingly presenting feminine long dresses with sleeves in their collections. Photos of fashion shows will make sure of this.

Long dresses with sleeves are traditional women's clothing. However, with the advent of the twentieth century, women's skirts became shorter and shorter. Such a revolution in fashion was caused by the fact that women began to take an active part in public life. They no longer only took care of housework and children, so they needed comfortable and comfortable clothing.

By the end of the 60s, minis quickly burst into fashion, and by the end of the century, many women had practically no dresses left in their wardrobes. Unisex style dominated fashion, so it was very difficult to meet a girl dressed not in jeans or trousers, but in a feminine dress.

However, with the advent of this century, femininity has returned to fashion. Women again wanted to be elegant, romantic and a little mysterious. And to create such an image, a long dress with long sleeves is best suited.

Why is it worth buying a dress with sleeves and a floor-length skirt?

For fashion to become truly mass, it is necessary that the models proposed by designers be liked by the majority of fashionistas. A long dress has become just such a model, which women quickly fell in love with, since such an outfit has a number of advantages.

  • Long sleeves are a versatile piece. In the winter version of the dress, he will warm, in the summer - protect from the scorching sun.
  • If an outfit with a sleeve is chosen, then to it no need to purchase a jacket or cardigan. Such a dress is self-sufficient in itself.
  • Not all girls have model parameters, and a long dress with sleeves is that outfit, thanks to which you can hide a variety of flaws.

  • A long dress has an amazing ability to endow its wearer with grace. Indeed, in such an outfit you involuntarily straighten your shoulders.
  • The discreet style of the dress allows you to use the most daring accents. For example, a dress with a blank collar, narrow long sleeves and an open back looks incredibly impressive. Of course, such an outfit is only suitable for a special occasion, and not for every day.

The most important advantage of the described style is that even the most modest floor-length closed dress attracts much more attention to its owner than revealing outfits.

Sleeve styles

Sleeves are a very important detail of a dress, so you should pay special attention to choosing the style of the sleeves.

Narrow

The classic cut of the sleeve is narrow, fitting the arm. This style looks organic, eating a long dress fitted with a moderately flared skirt or straight.

Dresses with narrow sleeves can be made both with a deaf collar and with a deep neckline. The first option is ideal for a daily look, the second - for an evening look.

The sleeve can have different lengths. In the classic version, it covers the wrist, but shortened models are no less popular - seven-eighths or three-quarters. In the first case, the sleeve reaches the middle of the forearm, in the second, the sleeve is slightly longer than the elbow.

The upper part of a narrow sleeve can be cut exactly along the armhole, but sometimes the sleeve is cut out with an allowance. When sewing in such a sleeve, it is picked up along the rim with the formation of small folds. This cut is perfect for girls with narrow shoulders.

Slim 3/4 length sleeves- a universal option, it is often used when sewing evening and cocktail dresses, but is often used in everyday fashion.

flare

Flared sleeves are often used in evening models. However, ordinary summer outfits with sleeves of this cut are very comfortable and look beautiful. The flare can start from the shoulder itself, as well as from the elbow. A less commonly used option is when the flare starts from the wrist itself, which creates the effect of a puffy cuff.

The flared sleeves give this long dress a special airiness. Therefore, for sewing such sleeves, a fabric is often used that is different from the material of the base of the dress. For example, outfits with translucent sleeves made of chiffon or lace look spectacular. This option is especially recommended for full girls. A loose flying sleeve will hide the excessive fullness of the arms.

Lush

Puffed sleeves are a detail commonly used in evening and wedding fashion. The sleeve can be puffy throughout and end at the wrist with a narrow cuff or elastic gathering. Another option is a puffy sleeve up to the elbow, and then there is a narrow cuff, which is often decorated with a number of small decorative buttons.

Puffy sleeves look especially good on girls whose arms are overly thin.

Raglan

The cut of this sleeve was invented by the English lord, after whom the style is named. At the same time, the lord was not a fashion designer; he proposed a new cut of the sleeve for sewing military uniforms. The innovation was made in order to save fabric and time for tailoring.

In modern fashion, raglan sleeves are also used when sewing women's dresses. An outfit with sleeves of this style is suitable for everyday wear.

"Bat"

This is another loose sleeve option that is very easy to perform. In fact, this is a one-piece sleeve with a low armhole, tapering to the wrist. This cut is ideal for girls with problematic figures, as it perfectly hides both excess body fat and excessive thinness.

Decor

When sewing elegant models, sleeves are often decorated using a variety of decor options. It can be embroidery, lace inserts or sewing.

Glue rhinestones are often used. They are glued either along the entire length of the sleeve on the outside, or used to decorate the cuffs.

fabrics

The choice of fabric for sewing a long dress with a sleeve is determined by the purpose of the outfit and the season for which it is intended.

For winter a woolen or knitted long dress would be an excellent choice. It can be sewn from a plain fabric or from a checkered or striped material. A model made of striped fabric, tailored by a skilled craftsman, can visually change the silhouette of a figure. So vertically located stripes stretch the silhouette, make it more slender, and horizontal ones, on the contrary, make them fatter.

Full girls you should choose dresses with a small pattern, this also applies to floral prints, checks, and polka dots. A large pattern on a long dress visually add massiveness to the figure.

For sewing evening dresses use more expensive and beautiful fabrics. So, for the summer, you can choose a light chiffon long dress with a flying skirt and wide sleeves. The image will be light and airy. For a winter celebration, it is worth sewing a long velor dress. For evening looks, as a rule, plain fabrics are used.

The lace long dress looks incredibly impressive. Such an outfit is sewn on a cover made of opaque fabric. Lace can be used for sewing separate sleeves - collar, sleeves, coquettes. In this case, silk or satin is taken as the main fabric.

Such different styles

As already mentioned, the styles of dresses on the floor with long sleeves can be very different. For everyday wear, dresses of a simple but comfortable cut are chosen. In evening fashion, you can see outfits of complex styles with necklines and other daring accents.

Everyday looks

Today, more and more girls believe that at least one casual floor-length dress with long sleeves should be in the wardrobe of a fashionista. Of course, for those who are used to wearing jeans, at first it will be uncomfortable in a long dress. However, the habit is acquired, so there is no need to abandon fashionable models.

The styles of dresses for everyday wear can be varied, here are the most popular models:

  • Outfit with narrow or flared sleeves, body-hugging bodice and flared skirt - this is a versatile option that is suitable for any occasion.
  • Long dress with batwing sleeves, made of thin knitwear - this is a very comfortable model. It can be worn on a walk or sewn for the home.

  • broad-shouldered girls long dresses with a flared skirt and narrow three-quarter sleeves are ideal. This outfit will divert attention from the line of the shoulders. And if the girl has a narrow waist, then it should be additionally emphasized with a belt.
  • Long kimono dresses- This is an excellent choice for full girls, as it perfectly hides figure flaws.

Unisex models in the women's wardrobe are increasingly giving way to feminine dresses. A universal model is a floor-length dress with long sleeves. This type of clothing can be used as a toilet for going out, and as a model for everyday wear.

This dress is suitable for any season, you just need to choose the right fabric. Winter models are sewn from wool, thick knitwear, summer ones - from cotton fabrics, linen, silk.

Nowadays, a long dress is no longer the subject of an exclusively evening wardrobe. This version of clothing has firmly entered into everyday fashion. Of course, this is not the most practical model, for example, for traveling by public transport. But for walking and for wearing at home - long dresses with sleeves are very comfortable.

Winter dresses

For those who do not want to give up feminine bows even in winter, a long dress with a sleeve will be the best option. A warm long dress looks very elegant and warms perfectly.

Knitted warm dress in the style of the 70s is a great choice for stylish girls. You can complement the dress with a scarf or stole. The dress may have a straight silhouette with a noodle or braid knit. Such models are ideal for girls with a proportional figure. The collar can be deaf or collar type. An additional element will be a leather strap.

Long woolen dress with a flared or pleated skirt is another option for creating a casual winter look. It looks good, both a plain dress and a model sewn from a checkered or striped fabric. You can complement the model with a lace collar and a belt that emphasizes the waistline.

Photos of fashionable models convince us that you should not choose dark and boring fabrics for winter dresses. Designers recommend using brighter colors - coral, lilac, pistachio.

With what to combine such outfits? While it's still not too cold outside, you can wear an outfit with closed shoes or ankle boots. From above, you can wear a fur vest or a light coat.

In winter, of course, you need warmer outerwear. The dress can be combined with a coat, fur coat or fur jacket. For knitted dresses, you can pick up a snood or a wide scarf. Boots should be selected with narrow tops, you can also use feminine winter boots with heels.

Summer dresses

The opinion that a closed floor-length dress with long sleeves can only be worn in cold weather is incorrect. This type of clothing is also perfect for summer, you just need to select light, well-breathable fabrics.

You can sew a summer dress with a sleeve for every day from cotton blended fabrics, staples, linen, chiffon, fine knitwear. Colors are better to choose bright, in fashion drawings in the style of ethno, oriental motifs. All shades of white and delicate pastel shades are fashionable. Long dresses with flowers or polka dots look very cute.

Summer models, as a rule, have a loose flying skirt. Sleeves can also be voluminous. Long shirt dresses are very comfortable for the house.

They wear such dresses with summer shoes or sandals with heels or wedges Ballerinas are not suitable for long dresses.

Clothing for women who profess Islam deserves a separate discussion. Muslim dresses must be completely closed, only hands and face remain free from clothing. At the same time, dresses should not be too bright, they are not sewn from translucent fabrics. But with all these restrictions, the clothes for Muslim women are very beautiful and attractive.

Outfit

A floor-length long dress is a great choice for a winter gala. For him it is worth choosing fabrics of deep saturated colors. As decoration, you can use embroidery or lace. But with decorations for such a dress, it is important not to overdo it. It should play a major role in the image.

Elegant long dresses are sewn from satin, taffeta, chiffon and other beautiful and expensive fabrics. For the evening, you can sew an outfit with a seductive neckline or high-cut skirt. But there should be one thing in the dress, that is, if the skirt has a high slit, then the cutout should be “under the neck”.

Among the most popular styles:

  • Hourglass. These are fitted dresses with a flared skirt that look incredibly feminine.
  • Mermaid. These are models that fit the figure tightly to the middle of the thighs (or to the knee line), below there is a flared skirt. These models look good only on girls with a perfect physique.
  • Empire. Such dresses have an undercut under the bust and a flowing skirt. This style is ideal for obese women, but this does not mean that slender girls cannot choose it.

Dresses with draperies are well-deservedly popular. These models allow you to adjust the figure, hiding the flaws of the physique. Dresses closed in front with long sleeves and a deep cutout on the back look provocative. This option for the evening is suitable for brave girls who love to attract attention.

Young girls who want to sew an unusual outfit for graduation can be recommended to pay attention to a long chiffon dress with sleeves.

Such a dress made of richly colored fabric will not go unnoticed. You can sew a fitted dress with a fluffy skirt. And if the figure is imperfect, then it is better to choose a model in the Greek style.

Floor-length wedding dresses with long sleeves look great. Moreover, the sleeves can be sewn from a fabric different from the fabric of the dress. Lace sleeves combined with a silk or satin dress create a delicate and modest look. This bridal outfit is perfect for a wedding.

What to wear?

Evening dresses on the floor with long sleeves do not require a lot of accessories. They pick up shoes with heels and a small evening bag.

The choice of jewelry will depend on the fabric of the dress and the shape of the neckline. The V-shaped cutout can be decorated with a pendant. Dresses with a closed collar or a collar decorated with flounces or a bow do not need decorations around the neck. It will be enough to wear long earrings for them.

What are the sleeves like?

Closed long dresses are perfect for any figure, if you know how to choose sleeve styles.

Slim fit

This style of sleeve will look organic with a long dress with a fitted bodice. Dresses with sleeves of this cut are best sewn from elastic fabrics so as not to restrict freedom of movement. This option is not the best choice for full girls.

If the sleeve is not tailored to the arm with an allowance for length and width, then it is worn gathered.

flare

Flared sleeves are at the peak of fashion today, it is often used in models of evening long dresses made from light fabrics - silk, lace, chiffon. Due to the specific cut, the silhouette of the model is feminine and light.

Sleeve design may vary. The flare can start both from the shoulder and from the elbow line. You can make narrow sleeves with flared one-piece cuffs.

Wide fit

The long sleeve can be wide along the entire length and end at the wrist with a narrow cuff. The second version of the cut is a puffy sleeve from the shoulder to the elbow, and then there is a narrow part that tightly fits the arm. Both cut options will ideally hide the shortcomings of the hands - excessive fullness or thinness.

Cut "Bat"

This is one of the varieties of a one-piece sleeve, moreover, the simplest in execution. The armhole of such a sleeve is very low, it starts from the waist line. The shape of the sleeve resembles the wing of a bat, which is why it got its name. A dress with a sleeve of this style visually slims.

Sleeve decoration options

The sleeve can become a decorative element of the model. If we are talking about everyday models, then the simplest option for decorating is to use a cuff of a different color. You can also use simple embroidery on the cuff or along the sleeve.

In evening models, sleeves are often decorated with tucks, puffs, and beautiful draperies are made on them. In addition, translucent fabrics are often used for sleeves. Also used embroidery and decoration with rhinestones. Shiny rhinestones or beads can decorate the shoulder part of the sleeve or its cuff. Sometimes rhinestones are attached along the entire length of the outer side of the sleeve, forming a shiny strip from the elbow to the wrist.

It is important to know that the style of the sleeve can seriously affect your image. It can radically spoil it, or vice versa, emphasize the merits and hide the flaws. Often the sleeve is the main decor of the dress, so its choice should be taken with full responsibility.

Sleeve types

The style of the sleeve changes along with the development of fashion. Throughout history, you can remember more than a dozen different models, but despite this, modern designers come up with something new every time. Hems to the floor will emphasize the femininity of any girl. There are different styles of long dresses with long sleeves, short sleeves, fabrics of different textures and colors. The most common are the A-line and straight models, but there are at least 10 types in total.

Long Sleeve Styles

If in the summer heat no one can even think about a sleeve, then with the onset of cold weather, the relevance of dresses with this element is gaining momentum.

There are the following styles of sleeves for long dresses:

  1. shirt. Emphasizes the business style of the outfit and beautifully fits the hand without too much playfulness. A characteristic feature of this type of sleeve is cuffs - they can be decorated with buttons or other design elements;
  2. three quarters. This type coquettishly hides the upper part of the arm, revealing a thin brush. Suitable for owners of a magnificent figure or girls who want to hide certain imperfections of the upper body;
  3. Raglan. Long raglan dresses are for girls who have straight broad shoulders. Soft folds of fabric falling from the upper body will visually make it more sophisticated and feminine. At the same time, this style also hides the chest, so it is better for owners of the first size to avoid such frills in their wardrobe;
  4. Bat. Patterns of this type are similar to those described above. Unlike raglan, the sleeves of the batwing dress are gathered under the arm. Such drapery effectively emphasizes the chest and even allows you to visually enlarge it by several sizes. Such a model should be categorically avoided by girls with sloping shoulders;
  5. Set-in fitting sleeve. A classic option for closed women's long dresses. Along its entire length, it adheres to the body as much as possible, accurately highlighting each line. Therefore, you need to wear it only with the fact that you are firmly convinced of the ideality of your hands;
  6. Flared. A frequent companion of boho dresses to the floor. As with skirts or trousers, flared sleeves play a huge role in hiding figure flaws. Thanks to the silhouette expanding downwards, they will brighten up full shoulders and elbows, highlighting thin brushes against their background;
  7. Lantern sleeve. An unusual option for winter models will help to give the image a vintage and sophistication. The cut of the flashlight is notable for its unusual approach: the upper part of the sleeve is noticeably wider in comparison with the cuff. Stylists recommend wearing it to owners of low or inexpressive shoulders.

Each of these types of sleeves suits a certain style of long dresses (and sometimes several at once).

Sleeve styles:

  • Long sheath dress, which Audrey Hepburn loved so much, looks great with a narrow set-in option and a shirt. At the same time, this model perfectly manages without sleeves at all. The main difference of the case from dozens of other styles is in a straight line from the hips to the ankles and a fitted silhouette in the abdomen.
  • balloon dress considered the standard of "tramp" fashion. This model did not bypass any fashion show, where grunge or hippie style was present to one degree or another. Flared and puff sleeves are perfect for its cut. At the same time, for options from dense fabrics (knitwear, cotton, wool), designers use raglan or bat cut. Outwardly, the balloon resembles a tandem between a tulip skirt and a spacious office blouse.
  • The most interesting in the review - wrap dresses. These models look like a deliberately sloppy dressing gown, but remain the standard of femininity and style. Three quarters and an office sleeve are combined with them. But they look no less impressive with adjustable straps (as in sundresses). The main attribute is the belt, which also replaces most of the accessories in the image. Most often, this model is sewn with a high waist.

  • Long dress shirt- it would seem, a combination of incongruous. We used to think that the polo style is a short robe that slightly covers the middle of the thighs, ideal for walking and playing tennis. But elongated shirts are the best friends for autumn walks and photo shoots. With a combination of certain types of accessories and the selection of the right color scheme, this model will become a luxurious addition to the office style.

  • Kimono And veil. National clothes of Asian women and Muslim women, respectively. These are casual outfits with a wide cut and a spacious sleeve without cuffs. A feature of the cut of this detail is its simplicity - in both cases it is simply straight without any frills. Of course, it will not be possible to show a figure in such a style, but this is not the goal of girls wearing such outfits.

Evening long dresses

In terms of solemnity, not a single outfit can be compared with the beauty of a long dress - most of the styles in the photo were created for the Red Carpet. They are distinguished from wedding ones not only by colors or fabrics, but also by the features of the cut. Not all evening models are suitable for marriage.

The styles of summer evening dresses on the floor repeat the styles of long skirts and are suitable for both overweight and thin women.

Types of evening long dresses:

  • Pipe. For the first time, this model appeared on the catwalks in the collection of the Balenciaga brand, but soon migrated to the wardrobes of every third girl. A straight cut at the hips and a spectacular flare from the salt made the model indispensable for girls with curvy shapes. Traditionally, a trumpet dress should be sleeveless: either with a deep bandeau neckline, or with an American-style closed chest area;
  • Godet, fish or trompet visually very similar to the style of the pipe, but here the hem begins to expand from the hip. There are few straight lines in the cut, but seductive transitions between female roundness are fully present;

  • Greek or Empire. An amazing model of a dress on the floor, where simplicity and chic are perfectly combined. It is customary to tidy up the front hem slightly to form light folds, so it can often be seen on pregnant women - comfortable and stylish. The waist of this model is too high and highlighted with a wide belt, often made of contrasting fabric. The uniqueness of the style is that it is suitable for walking, for a wedding, prom, party and even going to the beach. It all depends on the choice of fabric, colors of decorative elements;

  • direct. A bold decision for daring girls. Its forms do not betray the femininity of the owner and, moreover, do not highlight the waist or the transitions between the torso and hips. But they perfectly outline the line of the chest and look very expensive. Suitable for spring balls, social events and other events without a hard dress code;

  • Classic fitted. For short girls, all of the above options can play a disservice: a godet and a trumpet will make the legs visually short, and a straight line will completely hide all hints of a figure. Therefore, fashionable fitted styles of long dresses are recommended for Thumbelina. These are beautiful traditional models that are decorated with a train or ruffles at the back.

Any style described can also be complemented by cuts on the hips, back and even sides. Naturally, options with an open back or any other part of the body imply its complete ideality. There should be no wrinkles or, especially, cellulite. Otherwise, despite the cost of the outfit, the image will be spoiled.

Fabrics for long dresses

A variety of fabrics are used to sew long dresses: some styles seem to be made for chiffon, others for knitwear. Of course, a lot depends on the time of year, but raglan models made of silk or guipure are very rare, but wool is a common thing.

The fabric for a floor-length dress should meet the requirements of the style: in some cases it should be easy to fold, in others it should keep the shape of the case perfectly.

Fabric selection:

  • For styles with a large number of assemblies, folds or draperies, light, thin fabrics are selected. This is how dresses from staples, chiffon, crepe-chiffon and less often, satin appear;
  • If summer is in the yard, then, traditionally, spacious boho-style sundresses with a slightly flared skirt are in fashion. To sew them it is most convenient to use viscose or cotton. Although linen will also make excellent outfits for a warm period;
  • In winter, they will warm and add chic to long dresses made of velvet, velor or wool. This is raglan, bat, straight and, less often, fitted. But for older ladies, they can give extra years;
  • Dresses made of red satin, natural silk, guipure are ideal for an evening out. They reflect the light of the lamps, which gives the image gloss and shine;
  • The bride's outfit is sewn from very soft, expensive fabrics. These are all kinds of lace, organza, taffeta and others.

Any patterns can be used as prints: polka dots, stripes, floral or animalistic patterns.
