The Corniche is located on the northwest coast of the main island of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. The 8-kilometer Corniche is one of the main promenades in the capital, which has been well-deservedly popular with guests and residents of Abu Dhabi since it was refurbished in 2003. Its most unusual feature is the gorgeous views that open around. On one side of the walking area, the turquoise sea sparkles and the island attracts the eye, on the other, the skyscrapers of Abu Dhabi stand majestically.
In the hot climate of the United Arab Emirates, the Corniche is teeming with greenery and numerous fountains, making it the perfect place for a promenade. Palm trees, flowers and shrubs are carefully watered using a special system. For cyclists there is a separate path, and for pedestrians there are benches everywhere where you can relax and admire the warm sea. In the morning and afternoon hours, when it is especially hot under the sun, there are almost no people on the embankment. But in the evening, when the air temperature drops, the territory “comes to life” and is filled with people.

Corniche beach
Corniche Beach has several areas open to different visitors - common for single visitors, a quiet family area and part of the beach for families with children. Shore near calm sea covered with white sand, which is regularly cleaned by the relevant city services. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag international award for cleanliness and safety. Despite the relative safety, buoys float closely 40 meters from the shore, blocking off swimmers from riding water vehicles.
Attractions near the Corniche
On the western side of the beach is one of the most comfortable and expensive hotels in the world - Emirates Palace(Emirates Palace). However, the hotel is more often called a palace, because the beauty and chic finishes have made it one of the most beautiful sights in Abu Dhabi. Real gold, silver, marble and Swarovski crystals were used for decoration. Near the palace there is a large park with many entertainments and a private beach with white sand. In addition to numerous shops and cafes, the center has a cinema, ice rink, bowling and other entertainment. Directly from the beach, you can also see such sights of the island as a Ferris wheel and a huge UAE flag on a giant flagpole. The size of the flag is 40 by 20 meters, and the height of the flagpole, which is considered the highest in the world, is 123 meters.

On the embankment itself, intended primarily for walking, there are not many entertainments. You won't find street musicians and artists here. But beautiful views the sea and the city attract with their beauty. For kids there is a playground, and for adults there are sports grounds, cafes and restaurants. What does the word "cornish" mean?
In a number of languages, this word is used to denote a road that first rises up the mountain, and then descends from it. It is of French origin, "route a corniche", which can be translated as "a road on a ledge".
There are a lot of corniches around the world, several of them are located in the United Arab Emirates: these are Buheira Corniche in Sharjah, Deira Corniche and Jumeirah Corniche in Dubai.

It's funny that none of the listed Cornish is located on the side of a mountain or a hill. Perhaps the Arabs just like the word itself!
To get there, you need to go to the northwestern part of the city. The place between the Hilton Abu Dhabi and the Old Fish Market will be the Cornish.
If you are in the emirate itself, you can take a bus for 2 dirhams. Several flights run right along the waterfront.
If flights 007, 009, 011 and 032 pass by your hotel, you can take them to Al Marina Island, and from there walk to the beach in 20 minutes.
You can get to. The fare will depend on how far your hotel is from the Corniche.
If you have your own car, use it - there is parking near the beach. For a day you will pay 10 dirhams.
Excursions to the Corniche
Many excursions in Abu Dhabi are built in such a way as to drive along this promenade, but this is not the most the best way because the buses don't stop there. The beach starts to receive guests from 7 am. You can swim until sunset. Many restaurants on the coast are open until 4 am, or even around the clock.

A bit of history
Many years ago, when the country lived thanks to the export of pearls, pearl miners lived here.
Later, when oil began to be produced in the country, thanks to the stunning views, this part of the city was taken over by building expensive hotels for businessmen and the rich who came from other countries. Then the embankment was still in sight.
In 2002, it was decided to build the same embankment. Two companies got down to business: Canadian LANDinc and Parsons International. I had to bring about 50 hectares of land, build a road and plant trees. It is hard to believe that such a huge territory was artificially created by human hands!
In 2011, Corniche Abu Dhabi received the Blue Flag - an international award given to beaches for the cleanest and most environmentally friendly water - and still holds it.
The beach is divided into 5 areas:
The first - - is intended for families with children. Single men are not allowed to enter. For greater convenience of vacationers, the territory is fenced. Entrance fee: adults pay 10 dirhams, children under the age of 12 - 5 dirhams.
West Plaza area- suitable for absolutely everyone, free entry.
Al Sahil Beach- also suitable for everyone, although paid. The price of the issue is 10 dirhams for an adult and 5 dirhams for a child under 12 years old.
East Plaza Beach- another free beach, suitable for everyone, like Western Extention Beach.
The BAKE company monitors the order on the beach, they charge an entrance fee to paid beaches, rent towels, umbrellas and sunbeds for 10, 25 and 25 dirhams, respectively. However, if you have your own towel, you can spread it out and sit right on it, no one will forbid you to do this.
On the beach there are a large number of sunbeds, there are places to change clothes and take a shower. You don't have to pay to visit the latter.
Also, if necessary, you can look into one of the nearby shops and buy yourself additional beach accessories.
The depth here is not very large, a little more than one and a half meters. A few tens of meters from the coast there is a line marked with buoys - it cannot be crossed.
There are always lifeguards on land.
On the beach you can see many well-groomed flower beds, trimmed lawns and palm trees. You can buy a soft drink and relax in the shade.
Comfort lovers
If you do not feel like pushing in a public place, two local clubs will provide you with their services. One of them is the Nation Riviera club, located in the St Regis Abu Dhabi hotel, which has its own fenced beach, swimming pool, fitness room and restaurant. One person will pay $54 for a one-day visit, and $81 will be charged for two.
The second - "Hiltonia Beach Club" - is also equipped with its own beach. You will have to pay 200 dirhams for entry on weekdays and 290 on weekends. After 15:00, couples can buy a ticket for as little as AED 140.
Waterfront entertainment
One way to get around the beach is by bike. The rental point is located in its western part, not far from the Hiltonia Beach Club. Here you can find both mountain and urban models, however, rental is quite expensive: adults pay 30 dirhams, children - 20. Thus, it is more convenient to use a taxi.
We recommend visiting Family Water Park - A great place to relax with the whole family. You will not find water slides, as such, but there are fountains under which you can run and just walk - believe me, your children will appreciate it!
Picnics are allowed on the lawns, but fires are not allowed.
Nearby there is a special open area where various events are held, including competitions for children, important events are broadcast on the big screen, as was the case during the Formula 1 Grand Prix. As a rule, all events are free.
It is interesting that this embankment is used for military marches: here you can meet amazing variety military equipment, including guns from Russia, France and Ukraine, admire the military units, and cavalry on horseback and camels.
They are still in the army, but they practically do not participate in hostilities.
At the end of March, you can get to the so-called "Mother of the Nation" festival, organized by Her Majesty the Shahina Fatima Bint Mubarak. Children will especially like the event: they can bungee jump, participate in competitions and master classes, visit attractions and swim in the pool. You have to pay to enter the event.
Admire the skyscrapers
Not far from the waterfront are skyscrapers that have become calling card Arab Emirates. Among them we can name ADNOC - a large oil production company is located here. The height of the building reaches 342 meters, and it looks very impressive: black glass walls framed by white frames.
The second skyscraper is the Etihad Tower - on one of its upper floors there is an observation deck "Observation Deck at 300".

There are two more interesting skyscrapers over 250 meters high on the Corniche. At a height of 202.5 meters there is a bridge connecting them to each other. One of the towers houses a hotel with its own cinema, spa and fitness center. A night in such luxury costs 25 thousand dollars. Booking a room through regular sites will not work.
Where to go to eat
On the waterfront you can find a huge number of restaurants and cafes, the cuisine is mainly Italian, Japanese and, of course, Arabic. In the same place, nearby, you can find the usual McDonalds and even a regular supermarket.
- Not far from the Corniche is another local attraction - Al Marina Island: there is a large Ferris wheel, a shopping center, a giant flagpole with the flag of the country and many more interesting places that are worth visiting, considering that you can walk there in 15 minutes.
- It is better to take care of comfortable shoes and clothes in advance, because you will have to walk a lot.
- Not far from the waterfront is another attraction - the Emirates Palace Hotel, if possible, be sure to look there.
- Many cafes and restaurants accept only Arabic dirhams, so it is better to change the currency in advance.

Ideally clean (which is confirmed by the Blue Flag), wide, with excellent infrastructure, the beach offers all the conditions for those who just want to lie on the soft sand on their own towel, and for fans of a luxurious holiday - several clubs are at their service. And the Corniche is just right for swimming lovers. Buoys are located at a distance of 40 m from the coast, the sea is always calm due to the islands of Al Lulu and Al Marina located opposite, a large number of lifeguards work.
Infrastructure
The beach is divided into three zones: free, "family" and "single" - with the same functions as the "family", only quieter. Free is the most popular. Despite the status, everything is in order with the service here: there are showers, changing rooms, a large parking lot for 1100 cars is located 300 meters from the entrance, and there are many cafes and restaurants in the vicinity. In the western part of the public beach (the one that is closer to the parking lot and the Nation Galleria shopping center), football and volleyball courts are equipped.
The main difference between the paid zones is the ability to rent a sunbed and a towel, the availability of shops with useful accessories (clothing, sunscreen, drinks) and a large number of cafes and restaurants right on the beaches.
The sea throughout the Corniche beach is exactly the same: quite shallow with white sand and minimal excitement.
