School holidays 2. Knowledge Day: when the school year begins in different countries of the world

August 29. The bill proposes to assign to local governments the right to postpone the start date of the school year in educational organizations to October 1. Traditionally, the “Knowledge Day” holiday will continue to take place on September 1, but municipalities will be given the opportunity to reschedule it depending on objective conditions. “The establishment of September 1 as a single date for the start of the school year is dictated by the long-standing tradition of unity of command and egalitarian uniformity, strengthened by the establishment of the celebration of Knowledge Day on this date,” the deputies are sure.

They also believe that the vast geography of Russia, the diversity of its climatic, national and social characteristics make us think about a different approach to determining the start date of the school year. “The adoption of the bill will allow for a more flexible approach to resolving the issue of the beginning and end of the school year in educational organizations, as well as more effectively using the warm season for children to have a good rest,” the explanatory note of the bill states. Previously, the head of the faction explained this initiative by saying that postponing the school year would prolong the summer due to the warm September. In addition, many parents go on vacation during the high season and often take their children with them, who are already absent from classes for a good part of September.

In the event of a postponement of the start of classes, the State Duma noted, the academic year of classes should end “in accordance with the curriculum of the relevant general education program.”

Whether this means that the academic year will end a month later, or whether the curriculum will have to be completed in an accelerated manner, is not specified in the document.

Director of Moscow Lyceum No. 1535 Tatyana Vorobyova is sure that the bill will not be accepted in the State Duma. “For Moscow, this is an irrelevant issue: especially since all the capital’s schools are subordinate to the Department of Education and the Moscow government. This is not at the municipal level. Don’t forget about the final state certification. We cannot shorten the school year by four and a half weeks: this is unrealistic. We already have some of the longest holidays in the world: I see no point in extending them in order to more effectively use the warm season for relaxation. The State Duma will not be able to make such a decision. Then the law on the Unified State Exam will have to be changed,” the director is sure.

The director of the Institute for Educational Development told Gazeta.Ru that individual educational organizations can postpone holidays without new bills. “This requires coordination with the governing council, as well as an agreement with the municipality. However

the proposal to give all schools a full month to reschedule seems disruptive to me. This will mean postponing summer holidays and vacations for teachers.

This is not the first time this risky idea has been discussed: once they wanted to move the start of the school year to September 15,” she said.

The expert also noted that the teaching staff always thoroughly prepares for the celebration of the beginning of the school year. “I think the blurring of key annual launches is very risky. This will not only force changes to school programs, but will also complicate the lives of working people, who will have to devote all their time to the child for another month,” shared Abankina.

Let us note that this year the postponement of Knowledge Day has become especially relevant due to the fact that the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr falls on September 1. So, because of this, in Moscow school No. 2107, located next to the Cathedral Mosque, the ceremonial assembly will be held on September 4.

The mufti of the capital told reporters that the capital's Muslims consider it reasonable to postpone the ceremonial assembly on September 1 at the school next to the Cathedral Mosque because of Kurban Bayram. The Mufti noted that tens, or even hundreds of thousands of believers gather inside and around the mosque, so the transfer of school lines was decided “based on the same safety considerations, where everyone could spend their holiday without crowding each other or creating uncomfortable conditions.” For others". Alyautdinov emphasized that such a decision takes into account the interests of all “equal residents of the capital.” At the same time, the first deputy, in turn, proposed shifting the school holidays by an hour or an hour and a half, since the celebration at the mosque would begin at seven in the morning and last 45 minutes: after that, the believers would disperse.

Because of Kurban Bayram, the school year will start a day later in schools in Ingushetia. In Karachay-Cherkessia, September 1 has been declared a day off, but schools will hold holiday assemblies. In the city of Beslan, located in North Ossetia, the holiday of the beginning of the school year was postponed due to the Days of Remembrance for the victims of the terrorist attack of September 1-3, 2004. The academic year at Beslan school No. 1 will begin on September 4. In other schools in the republic, the line will begin with the announcement of a minute of silence in memory of the victims.

"Far Eastern Hectare" for Kaliningrad schools

The tradition of annually celebrating the Day of Knowledge began to take hold in Russia during the time of Peter the Great. However, even then, not all schools began the school year on September 1: in some educational institutions it began at the end of August, mid-September or October.

Until the mid-30s of the 20th century, there was no exact date for the start of the school year in the USSR. In August 1930, the Council of People's Commissars decided: "all children aged 8-10 years were to be admitted to school in the fall."

They came to a single date only on September 3, 1935, when the Council of People's Commissars and the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks established that classes in all schools of the USSR would begin on September 1 and end on June 1 (for the first three grades), June 10 (for 4-7th grades). classes) and June 20 (for high school students).

The holiday “Knowledge Day” itself was officially established in October 1980, when the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR “On Holidays and Memorial Days” was issued.

On September 1, educational institutions traditionally host ceremonial assemblies, class hours, and lessons on safety and courage. Recently, on August 24, 2017, it became known that all Russian schools were required to conduct a lesson on state security on Knowledge Day. In a statement, the department said that the lesson will be called “Russia, looking to the future.” All schoolchildren from 1st to 11th grade will learn about “important areas of the country’s development, promising areas for using their own talent in three, five or ten years, as well as opportunities for their own development in Russia.” Teachers will be required to emphasize conservation, science and technology, and politics. In addition, children will be told about the innovative economy and the Far Eastern Hectare program.

“Schoolchildren need to understand their place in modern Russia and its development, clearly imagine the possibilities of building a career, starting a family, in conditions of economic and social security guaranteed by the state,” the Ministry of Education believes.

Singapore: business - time, vacation - a month

The authors of the bill note that in many countries there is no fixed start date for the school year. “Schools independently set the start and end dates of the school year and the duration of the holidays. For example, the federal states of Germany independently set the period of the school year and holidays. In Spain, a floating start date for the school year has been established, but no later than October 1. There is also no exact date for the start of the school year in the USA, Austria and other countries,” the document says.

In most European countries, the school year also starts on September 1. However, schoolchildren in Finland, Denmark, Germany and Scotland are out of luck: they start school in August. Moreover, if in Finland and Denmark classes begin in the second half of August, then in Germany everything depends on the school: German children can go to school either in the last week of August or in early September. In Italy, everything depends on the region. So, this year, for the vast majority of Italians, the school will open its doors on September 14, and those who live in the Alto Adige region will begin the school year on September 7.

In the countries of the Southern Hemisphere, where winter begins when summer starts in Russia, and autumn begins in March, the school schedule is different. For example, in Argentina, Costa Rica and Brazil, schools open in the first week of February, in Chile on March 1, and in Uruguay on the first Monday in March.

Chinese schools open their doors on the second Wednesday of September. Nevertheless

In many Asian countries, the start of the school year occurs in the spring. For example, in South Korea, school starts on March 3, and in India - in mid-March - early April.

The school year in Japan begins in April and is divided into three trimesters. The first lasts until July 20: after it, children go on a long summer vacation. The Japanese return to their desks on September 1: then the second trimester begins, which lasts until the winter holidays on December 26. The final, third trimester lasts from January 7 to March 25. This is followed by a short spring break, during which students move from class to class.

Due to Thailand's tropical climate, the school year there begins in May and lasts until April of the following year, while they have two breaks from school: one month-long in October and a second - almost two-month - in March-April. Singapore stands out: classes start there either in early January or at the end of November, it all depends on the school. Moreover, the school year in Singapore lasts 40 weeks, and school holidays last just over a month.

In Australia, the school year starts after the celebration of the country's main national holiday - Australia Day, which is celebrated annually on January 26. New Zealanders begin school on January 27, however, at the request of parents whose children study in private schools, the start of the school year may be moved to early February.

Israeli schoolchildren usually start reading their books on September 1, but sometimes Knowledge Day is moved to the end of August. The changes occur due to the fact that the autumn Jewish holidays fall in September, followed by regular holidays and breaks from school.

is a near-Earth object with a diameter of about 30 meters. It was discovered on August 29, 2006, when it was at a distance of 4.5 million km. from our planet. Scientists observed the celestial body for 10 days, after which the asteroid was no longer visible through telescopes.

Based on such a short observation period, it is impossible to accurately determine the distance at which asteroid 2006 QV89 will approach the Earth on 09/09/2019, since the asteroid has not been observed since then (since 2006). Moreover, according to various estimates, the object may approach our planet not on the 9th, but on another date in September 2019.

As for whether 2006 QV89 will collide with Earth on September 9, 2019 or not - the likelihood of a collision is extremely low.

Thus, the Sentry System (developed by the JPL Center for NEO Studies) shows that the probability of a body colliding with the Earth is 1:9100 (those. about one ten thousandth of a percent).

The European Space Agency (ESA) estimates the chance of an asteroid crossing its orbit with our planet as 1 to 7300 (0,00014 % ). ESA placed 2006 QV89 in 4th place among celestial bodies posing a potential danger to Earth. According to the agency, the exact time of “flight” of the body on September 9, 2019 is 10:03 Moscow time.

In both Orthodoxy and Catholicism, Easter always falls on Sunday.

Easter 2020 is preceded by Lent, which begins 48 days before the Holy Day. And after 50 days they celebrate Trinity.

Popular pre-Christian customs that have survived to this day include dyeing eggs, making Easter cakes and curd Easter cakes.

Easter treats are blessed in the church on Saturday, the eve of Easter 2020, or after the service on the day of the Holiday itself.

We should greet each other on Easter with the words “Christ is Risen,” and respond with “Truly He is Risen.”

This will be the fourth game for the Russian team in this qualifying tournament. Let us remind you that in the previous three meetings, Russia “at the start” lost to Belgium with a score of 1:3, and then won two dry victories - over Kazakhstan (4:0) and over San Marino (9:0). The last victory was the largest in the entire existence of the Russian football team.

As for the upcoming meeting, according to bookmakers, the Russian team is the favorite in it. The Cypriots are objectively weaker than the Russians, and the islanders cannot expect anything good from the upcoming match. However, we must take into account that the teams have never met before, and therefore unpleasant surprises may await us.

The Russia-Cyprus meeting will take place on June 11, 2019 In Nizhniy Novgorod at the stadium of the same name, built for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Start of the match - 21:45 Moscow time.

Where and what time do the national teams of Russia and Cyprus play:
* Venue of the match - Russia, Nizhny Novgorod.
* Game start time is 21:45 Moscow time.

The vacation schedule at schools, universities and secondary vocational education institutions in Moscow is approved individually for each educational institution by its director, rector or other decision-maker. In practice, the vacation schedule rarely differs from the recommendations of a higher authority.

Russian schools live according to two academic “calendars”: quarters and trimesters. Depending on this, and also based on the recommendations of the Ministry of Education, educational institutions themselves determine the dates of the holidays. In general, it is beneficial for the school to adhere to the generally established framework, since general holidays mean greater opportunities for organizing quality children's leisure time: performances, excursions, concerts, etc.

Holidays in schools with a quarterly education system

Those who study in quarters have holidays four times a year - autumn, winter, spring and summer.

– 2019 academic year

Of these, the dates of the autumn holidays at the end of October and the beginning of November are less stable: their end date depends on National Unity Day, which is celebrated on November 4. For example, the autumn holidays of 2018 will not last traditionally from Monday to Sunday, but will last a day longer due to the postponement of the day off. That is from October 27 to November 5.

New Year holidays 2018–2019 academic year

New Year holidays, as a rule, begin in the last week of December and end on the 10th of January. Schoolchildren go to school on Monday. Winter holidays in the 2018/2019 academic year will continue from December 30 to January 8. First-graders will have additional holidays in winter* – from 16 to 25 February.

Spring break 2019 school year

The situation with holidays in the spring is much simpler - the dates do not depend on holidays. Spring break falls in the last week of March and the first week of April. In 2019, schoolchildren will have a rest from March 23 to March 31.

Summer holidays 2019 academic year

Summer holidays will begin as usual - on the last Monday of May. In 2019 it falls on the 27th. Thus, from May 27 to September 1 Schoolchildren are waiting for three whole happy months free from lessons.

* For students of first grades and classes of correctional and developmental education.

In addition to scheduled holidays, school classes may be canceled for the following reasons:

Vacations are the favorite time in the life of every schoolchild or student. Already on September 1, sharing their impressions of the past summer, the children begin to make plans for the next weeks and months free from school. A vacation schedule allows children and parents to plan their vacation in advance, making it meaningful and interesting.

The school year will traditionally begin for schoolchildren in 2017 with the Day of Knowledge, which is celebrated on September 1 and this academic year falls on Friday. Of the 273 days of the 2017-2018 school year, 167 days the children will have to actively absorb new knowledge. The remaining 106 are allocated for vacations, holidays and weekends. On May 26, 2018, for schoolchildren who do not pass the Unified State Exam or Unified State Exam, the summer holiday period will begin.

The holiday calendar for students and schoolchildren is developed annually by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, but it is only advisory in nature and may be changed by decision of the pedagogical council of a particular school. Therefore, the exact vacation schedule for the year must be checked with the educational institution where your child is studying. The decision of the teachers' council can only increase the number of days off for children. The grounds for providing additional days off from school are usually:

  • frosts, at a temperature of -25°C, classes at primary schools are canceled, at -28°C there are no classes in secondary schools and at -30°C, in high schools;
  • cold in classrooms, classes are prohibited at temperatures below +18°C inside classrooms;
  • exceeding the epidemic threshold for diseases and introducing quarantine.

Quarantine can be introduced in a region, city or district by decision of the administration, upon the recommendations of the local health department.

Additional holidays are provided for first-graders. This makes it easier for kids to adapt to new conditions. Children are usually given additional rest in the middle of the third, longest school term. The decision on the time and amount of additional rest is made by the teaching council of the educational institution.

Autumn

After a long summer holiday, it is difficult for children to maintain a busy academic rhythm for a long time. Autumn holidays allow you to relax a little and take a break. In many regions, autumn holidays fall on the last days of the “golden autumn”. This academic year the holidays will last from October 30 to November 7. In 9 days you can get a lot of bright autumn impressions.

Winter

The January holidays for every child are a period of waiting for a miracle and a little New Year's fairy tale. A decorated Christmas tree, fun sledding and ice skating, Christmas gifts or a trip with parents from snowy winter to bright summer, every schoolchild will find something interesting for themselves on their free winter days. You can accomplish a lot in 14-16 days. Winter holidays will begin on December 28, 2017 and end on January 10, then the longest academic quarter will begin. Depending on the school, the rest may be a little earlier, for example from 12/23/17 to 01/8/18, or vice versa later.

Contrary to rumors, the New Year holidays will not be canceled in 2018.

Spring

Many schoolchildren look forward to spring break with special impatience. Winter is behind us and most of the school year is behind us. The bright spring sun is already warming up. A little more and the long-awaited summer will come. Spring break is scheduled from March 24 to April 1, 2018. 9 days of spring rest will allow you to gain strength for the successful completion of the school year.

Summer

The last bell marks the end of school for graduates, and for everyone else it is a signal for the beginning of the longest and most exciting period of summer vacation. They will begin on May 28 and end on August 31. Schoolchildren who have completed 9th grade go on vacation at the end of June. On September 1, tanned, mature students will return to school to continue their studies.

This schedule is relevant for schools that teach children in quarters.

Holidays in trimester schools

In schools with modular education, the curriculum is divided into trimesters (three parts per year, instead of four), a 5-week study period alternates with a week of rest. Winter and summer holidays in these educational institutions follow the usual schedule for all children. Recent studies show that this schedule is optimal for children.

Holidays

The days of public holidays on which the entire population of the country rests are determined by a decision of the State Duma. Some of them give schoolchildren additional days off, for example February 23 and March 8, while others fall during school holidays.

Student holidays

With the holidays, things are getting worse for students: students are not provided with autumn and spring holidays. Each university determines the start and end period of study sessions independently. Typically, student winter holidays take place in late January and early February, and summer holidays begin in July. Sometimes the summer vacation time for students is shortened; after passing the required tests and exams, future specialists go to practice.

The holidays are a welcome time for children and a period of increased excitement for parents. Try to plan your child’s vacation so that he is not left to his own devices, find an interesting activity for the child during the vacation period, send him to a health camp, place him in a sports section, a camp at a school or a club.

A child, and especially a teenager, who does not know what to do with himself, can easily find himself in an unpleasant situation. Teach your child how to spend his free time profitably. And remember, no matter how many right words you say, personal example has the most powerful impact on a child.

All responsibility for the safety of the child during the holidays falls on the parents. Do not overburden your child with additional activities. Remember yourself as a child! Try to give your child the opportunity to gain new experiences, because they are the most vivid in childhood!

School holidays change in Russia every year. This is due to the fact that the Ministry of Education annually adjusts the class schedule in accordance with holidays and weekends, which change from year to year. Agree that it is not logical to schedule the start of the holidays on such days.

Educational institutions have the right to draw up their own schedule and decide on what date to begin and end the educational process. So, even if schools have the same programs, they can have a different academic calendar.

The ministry usually makes amendments to the educational process six months before the start of the school year, that is, the information will finally become known somewhere in March 2017. However, based on the experience of past years, and knowing what days public holidays fall on, you can roughly calculate what date certain holidays for schoolchildren will begin.

As you know, currently in Russia the educational process in schools is carried out in quarters and trimesters, so the weekend schedule will be different.

School holidays when studying in quarters

Autumn weekends usually run from late October to early November. The end date of the autumn holidays depends on National Unity Day. In 2017, the fourth of November will fall on a Saturday, which means the day off will be moved to 11/06/17 - Monday.

Thus, the autumn holidays will presumably take place from October 28 to November 6 inclusive.

Winter weekends, as a rule, last from the end of December to the second ten days of January. New Year holidays are the same for all forms of education. School begins on the first working day after the New Year holidays. Most often this is the tenth of January.

First graders have extra winter days off. This is due to the fact that young children need time to get used to the normal demands of school.

Spring break occurs at the end of March and beginning of April. At this time, the calendar does not contain public holidays, so what date the vacation begins and ends depends on what days the weekend will be.

  • Spring rest should be expected from March 26 to April 1.
  • Weekends in Russia in the summer traditionally occupy the entire summer months.
  • Summer holidays will begin on the first of June and last until August 31.

School holidays when studying by trimester

For those studying at school on a trimester system, the situation is similar to before. The Ministry of Education in Russia has not yet prepared a corresponding order. In this case, we will try to calculate the schedule of the educational process, looking at the calendar for 2017–2018. This is even easier to do, since in a school of this type they use the 5+1 principle when teaching. Simply put, they study for five weeks, then rest for a week. That is, the process of acquiring knowledge has a clearly defined cyclical nature.

After 35 days of training, a seven-day rest begins, and this is repeated throughout the entire academic year. The exception is the New Year holidays. In trimester educational institutions, schoolchildren have the same days off as in a regular school. So, let's look specifically at how many days it takes to rest in such establishments.

Autumn weekends include two periods:

first 09.10.17 – 15.10.17
second 20.11.17 – 26.11.17

New Year's holidays, as noted above, are identical to similar days off in a regular school, so there is no question about how many days they last.

Winter weekends also consist of two periods and look like this:

first 25.12.17 – 08.01.18
second 19.02.18 – 25.02.18

In the spring-summer period, students' holidays will look like this:

  1. Spring break will be from 04/09/18 to 04/15/18.
  2. The longest summer weekend will traditionally begin on 06/01/18 and end on 08/31/18.

Existing deviations from the standard

Communicating with each other, schoolchildren from various Russian cities have repeatedly noticed that vacations, for example in Moscow, do not coincide with their vacation. This can happen for many reasons:

  • Despite the fact that all educational institutions are subordinate to one department, the learning process can be carried out using different methods, which means that the rate at which students master the material in different schools can be different.
  • In addition, various force majeure situations may affect the start and end times of the weekend. So, for students in Siberia, the situation seems quite normal when school classes are canceled due to severe frosts. Local education departments can adjust the educational process in educational institutions under their jurisdiction.

Recently, we have witnessed the cancellation of classes in schools in the Far East due to floods. It is not uncommon for situations where the educational process is disrupted due to the cancellation of school classes due to quarantine measures. Moreover, classes may be canceled, both in individual classes and throughout the school.

In such conditions, school administrations are doing everything to maintain the pace of mastering the school curriculum. If there are several such extreme days in the school year, then there is a chance to catch up with the school course. However, if force majeure drags on and lasts a week or more, then school management is forced to take unpopular measures and reduce or shift school holidays.
