Xiaomi air purifier 2 reviews. Real-time status monitoring and notification of upcoming element replacement

You choose the water you drink, but do you choose the air you breathe? The air you breathe depends entirely on the environment you live in. So, if your city is polluted, then the air in the house is not very good. good quality. What do you do in such a case? Using an air purifier is your only option.

There are many air purifiers on the market, but when you see the price of them, the desire to buy disappears. In the midst of the crisis, Xiaomi brought its successful air purifier to Russia - Mi Air Purifier 2. The device is quite cheap but performs on par with most top brands which are 2-3-4 times more expensive. How is this possible? Don't forget, this is Xiaomi.

The Mi Air Purifier is one of the first products in the smart home family. household appliances Xiaomi. The device is a second generation version and has a significant improvement over the older variant.

In fact, Xiaomi has already released two versions of the air purifier. Original model, Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier, turned out to be too large for use at home, and after a while the Chinese released Mi Air Purifier 2, it became about one and a half times more compact with comparable performance. But back to the basics of this idea.

Air purifiers are a separate class of household appliances related to "beauty and health" or something similar. There are humidifiers, air washers, ionizers, purifiers and other things. In the case of Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier, we are talking about an air purifier designed to remove mainly harmful PM2.5 particles - fine dust. The fact is that, according to various data and studies, fine dust is the cause of many diseases, including cancer. So, for example, in 2013, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) published the results of studies that noted that particulate matter and air pollution increase the risk of lung cancer, and, according to IARC data for 2010, cause more than 200 thousand cases of lung cancer was precisely air pollution. In China, the issue of air pollution is particularly acute. Major cities like Beijing and Shanghai are sometimes covered in smog for months at a time. Arriving there, you seem to find yourself on the ground from the movie "The Matrix", where the sky is covered with clouds and the sunlight simply does not break through them. These are, in fact, very unpleasant sensations, and the fact that the air is dirty and heavy, you feel literally immediately, once in such a city. What then to say about the people who live in such cities all the time?

Design, materials, dimensions

Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier looks great - a stylish, neat "box" made of white plastic, which will fit perfectly into literally any interior.

It should be noted here that the Chinese did not develop the appearance of the air purifier on their own, but, as in any other field, they simply borrowed it. The inspiration (stroke) was the Japanese air purifier AirEngine from Balmuda.

One way or another, it turned out great, and you can’t blame the device for the lack of beauty and grace, despite the fact that this is an ordinary white plastic box.

The size of the new Mi Air Purifier has become noticeably more compact than the first model, which is good.

Design, principle of operation

The upper panel of the purifier is a grille for the outlet of purified air. Below it are two fans.

On the side faces there are holes for air intake, they are located on three sides.

On the reverse (rear) side of the purifier housing there is a removable cover for installing and subsequently changing the filter. On the inside covers - instructions explaining the principle of installing and changing filters.

Unlike the original Mi Air Purifier, where there were two filters (an external one with a coarse mesh and a pleated HEPA filter that traps suspended particles, and an internal one filled with activated carbon), only one was left in the Mi Air Purifier 2, an external filter.

The principle of operation is as simple as possible - the purifier sucks in air from the surrounding space, drives it through the filter, cleaning it from harmful particles (mainly PM2.5) and removes it through the upper area.

The declared performance of the purifier is up to 310 cubic meters of air per hour when the corresponding mode is turned on.

Important point, the plug of the bundled cable is somewhat different from what we are used to seeing, including in Chinese devices, so if you order a cleaner, you should take care of finding an adapter or use some of your own instead of the bundled cable, from the power supply, for example.

Purifier application, indicators

In general, the air purifier has one button on the body, and it is enough to turn it on and select the desired operating mode. There are three of them - "Auto", "Sleep", "Selected profile".

In the first, the purifier works at the level of performance that is necessary to clean the room in a calm (silent) mode, based on the readings of internal sensors. Sensors measure the level of ambient air pollution and display this information on the indicator on the front panel of the purifier. If it burns green - the air is clean, red - polluted. Sleep mode is designed to run the purifier at night or when you need it to be quiet - low performance pays off almost total absence fan noise. Finally, the third mode - it needs to be configured through the application. Choose the area that you want to clean as quickly as possible, and by turning on this mode, switch the cleaner to maximum performance. At the same time, it will make a lot of noise, not like a vacuum cleaner, of course, but still.

All additional information from the purifier, as well as the most important - the current level of air pollution, can be viewed through the Mi Home application. Communication with the purifier is configured through a router (shared home Wi-Fi), and in the future, the purifier's operating modes can be controlled from anywhere, even if you are not at home.

The app displays useful data and various settings. Here you can also set timers for the cleaner, select the brightness of the LED, enable or disable sound alerts, and other settings.

Conclusion

The purifier does its job well, and my PM2.5 pollution level is now very low, the average now is 10-15 units, while before installing the Mi Air Purifier, the figure was at the level of 30-40 units. Unfortunately, I did not notice any other positive effects from the operation of the device. On the Xiaomi website, in the description of Mi Air, it is indicated that it purifies the air not only from PM2.5, but also from dust and other large particles (including hair), and it was this description that prompted me to install it. I naively thought that by installing such a thing in the room, I could get rid of dust, or at least I would less often clean the room (now I do it every 2-3 days). As a result, after two months of operation of the cleaner, I can say for sure that it does not help with any visible dust. As I collected a layer of dust on the table in two or three days, it is collected, as I carried out the cleaning of this very dust every two or three days, and I spend it.

At the same time, I absolutely do not want to say that Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2 is a bad device. Firstly, its main task is still to remove harmful particles of a different kind, PM2.5, and with this, according to the readings of the device and the application, Mi Air copes more than well. Secondly, it is obvious that “my expectations are my problem”, and it was foolish to wait for the complete removal of ordinary household dust. True, I want to note that there are still other effective devices for dust control. For example, not so long ago I used an air washer from LG, LG Mini On for several months, and there was a noticeable effect on dust: during this time I noticed, even visually, that there was less dust in the room, and cleaning could be carried out once a week, that is, twice as often. I will talk about this device in a separate article.

In China, Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2 costs 1,000 yuan, but you can’t buy it (right now) in an online store, you need to look for a device in partner stores. On sites like GearBest.com and others, the device costs an average of 160-180 US dollars, that is, about 10,000-12,000 rubles. At the same time, Panasonic air purifiers are twice or even three times more expensive. Yes, as a rule, these are devices of a different class and there are combined systems for cleaning, humidifying and ionizing the air, but still. If you need some simple device to clean the air from harmful particles, you should pay attention to Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2.

We continue the unhurried story about the Xiaomi smart home ecosystem. V last time we talked about the MiJia electric kettle-thermostat with Bluetooth, led lamp for the desktop and Yeelight LED night light. We strongly recommend that you read this material. Well, or at least with an introduction and the part that is devoted to the smart home control center - the Mi Home application. This time the story will be dedicated to the Mi Air Purifier 2 air purifier, a smart (actually not very) Smart Power Strip extension with six outlets, as well as a Flower Care plant care device. And, perhaps, we will immediately make a reservation about the prices indicated in the article - all of them are valid at the time of writing the material and in the future may vary significantly depending on the exchange rate, place of purchase and type of delivery. So let's get started!

Mi Air Purifier 2 is one of the few Xiaomi products officially sold outside of China. Alas, Russia is not yet included in the list of countries where it is available. As already mentioned in the first part, this causes certain inconveniences when ordering a device in Chinese online stores. It is not very cheap in itself, and to this are added shipping costs that are very noticeable against the background of the price due to the size of the device (dimensions 520 × 240 × 240 mm, weight 4.8 kg). As a result, it will cost about 11-13 thousand rubles - for example, the price for GearBest is taken, however, in other stores or from local resellers, the cost will be about the same. In addition, there is always a risk that the device will be damaged during delivery.

Please note that we are now considering the second generation, but this is not the only device in the Xiaomi air purifier series. In some places you can find the first version of Mi Air Purifier for sale, and recently the company released a new Pro model. The second generation purifier is smaller than the first generation, and the Pro version is visually distinguished by the presence of a small screen. The principle of operation and device are the same for all models - air is sucked in from three sides, passes through the filter and is blown out by a fan in the upper part. The control of the purifier is very simple. There is a power button on top, which also allows you to switch between three modes: automatic (the purifier independently regulates the fan speed depending on air pollution), night (fan speed is minimal) and manual, in which you can also turn on the turbo option.

On the front panel there are indicators for the current operating mode and air quality, and on the top - the Wi-Fi indicator. There is another small button on the back wall, with which you can halve the brightness of all indicators or turn them off completely (at night, for example). Pressing this button and the power button at the same time resets the device. Just below the back button, there is a small compartment that hides the SHINYEI particle sensor and the Sensirion humidity/temperature sensors. The air intake hole next to the latter must be periodically cleaned with cotton swabs. Well, even below this compartment is an access cover to the filter compartment. The filter is a consumable, it costs an average of 3,000 rubles. It comes with a purifier, but how much it will last depends on the degree of air purity in the place where it will be operated.

In fact, the filter is the main feature of Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2. It has three layers. The first one is made from plastic mesh, which traps large particles: wool, hair, dust clods and so on. The second layer is a TORAY EPA filter that traps PM 0.3 particles. More precisely, what is important is that it filters PM 2.5 particles and finer. About how they are dangerous and where they come from is well written in the blog of the Russian manufacturer of air purifiers TION. Pay attention in this material to maps with information about air pollution in various cities around the world. For modern China, this is a very big problem - there are even fantastic projects to create diamonds from smog. It was for the inhabitants of the Celestial Empire that Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier was created in the first place. The Mi Home application shows data not only about the level of air purity in the room where the filter is installed, but also about air pollution outside. You can even turn on notifications when the air outside is clean enough to turn off the filter and open the windows wide open. Alas, for large cities, and for Russia as a whole, there are still no ready-made air quality assessment services covering the entire territory of the country.

The third layer of the filter consists of ordinary activated carbon, which traps various substances and odors. In fact, there are two versions of the filter: "green" for the first generation purifier and "blue" for the second. Naturally, in the description of both, two dozen different substances are indicated that are removed from the air, but in general, the scheme of work is reduced to rough, and then fine mechanical cleaning and further purification with coal. In practice, after two months of use, the amount of dust on the floor and other surfaces visually decreased. This is especially true of the terribly annoying combination of long female hair and cat down. And in general, the cleaner quickly reacts to any changes in the air. For example, a sharply increased fan noise will indicate burnt cutlets in the kitchen or an untimely open window faster than your own nose. And sometimes you can even remotely learn about the active games of small hairy cattle ( also known as the cat. — approx. ed. ) - simply because this significantly increases the number of particles in the air, and this is reflected in the Mi Home application.

Of course, Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2 will not get rid of dust completely. The minimum that has been achieved is 5-6 PM 2.5 particles, according to indications in Mi Home. On an average day, this indicator rises to 20-40, and a value less than 50 is considered a safe norm. A short-term recorded maximum is more than particles as a result of not very successful culinary experiments. The purifier howled notably in this smoke. Generally speaking, if the air in the house is clean, then it is difficult to notice the operation of the device against the background of street daytime noise. And in night mode, it can only be heard in absolute silence. However, this is all rather subjective. Specifically, in our case, Purifier 2 stands a meter from the bed and does not disturb sleep. Additionally, you can enable "learning" - the cleaner will "remember" when it is switched to night mode, and then switch to it on its own at about the same time.

Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2 is designed for installation in rooms with an area of 21-37 m2, and in turbo mode - up to 42-45 m2. At the time of writing, the cleaner worked for a little over two months in a room of about 22 m 2. It is claimed that it is able to purify the air in the room by 21 "square" in 10 minutes, and its productivity (CADR) is 310 m 3 of purified air per hour. The device is powered by a network of 100-220 V with a frequency of 50/60 Hz and consumes from 1.5 to 31 watts. The kit comes with a 1.8 m power cable - of course, with a Chinese type I plug. It can be easily replaced, since the purifier itself has a standard IEC 60320 C14 connector. The nest is located at the bottom, near the back wall, and there are anti-slip inserts on the very bottom. However, even without them, the device is stable on a flat floor. As mentioned above, you can control the cleaner without the Mi Home application, but if you want additional functionality, you will need to connect it to your home Wi-Fi 802.11n (2.4 GHz) network with Internet access.

Hello everyone!

A few months ago I bought an air purifier, as construction is underway under the window and a layer of dust constantly appears on all horizontal surfaces of the house (and often black and gray, apparently concrete or building mixtures scatter ...). Plus, the neighbors sometimes smoke and the smell of smoke is drawn into the house through the windows. I read reviews on the Internet and decided to choose Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2. It is not difficult to find a replacement filter for it, and the design, in my opinion, looks good.

I ordered it on GearBest, but then I looked, it was not necessary to order from China, it was possible to find it in Russian online stores for about the same price. The parcel arrived by courier in about two weeks.

Since the purchase was already made 4 months ago and at that time I was not going to write a review, I did not have any photos of the packaging.

Specifications:
Air cleaning capacity (CADR) ................310 m3/h
Air purity control… yes
Filters... pre-cleaning, HEPA filter
HEPA filter class… H11

Instruction (Chinese)

Appearance
The cleaner is not small, it has dimensions: 520x240x240mm (HxWxD).
On the front panel there are indicators of the operation of the device, a lot of holes for air intake (they are around the entire perimeter of the device).

At the back there is a hatch for replacing the filter element, a dust sensor window and a button for resetting the filter life counter / changing the brightness of the indicators.

Top exit hole clean air, followed by a dual fan and an on/off button.

There is nothing interesting below, except for a sticker with characteristics and rubber “feet” so that the device does not scratch furniture.

The power connector is a regular "laptop" connector, located at the bottom of the device:

The wire came with a Chinese plug and was immediately adapted with a plug from the nearest hardware store:

Control
The device is controlled using the button on the top side:

A long press turns the device on/off, a short press cycles through the operating mode.
There is also a Wi-Fi indicator next to the button (blinks when there is no connection and lights up when connected to the network).

Three LEDs on the top of the device are responsible for indicating the operating mode:

There are three operating modes: automatic (auto), night (sleep) and "favorites" (favorites).
In automatic mode, the purifier itself regulates the fan speed depending on the purity of the air, in the night mode it is always at the minimum speed, and in the “selected” mode, the fan speed can be set independently from the application.

There is a button on the back with which you can adjust the brightness of the purifier indicators:

There are three brightness modes: bright, muted and off (in it, when you press the button, the device lights the LEDs in dim mode for a few seconds). I photographed the bright and subdued mode with the same camera settings (I tried to make it noticeable):

Although the difference seems to be more significant. By the way, the indicator at the bottom of the device shows the air quality, it lights up green if the air is clean, orange if there is slight pollution and red if everything is really bad ... Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), I could not see the orange or red glow of the indicator, not looking at the construction site next door.

Appendix
As with other Xiaomi products, most of the functionality is only available through the MiHome app.
When you first turned on and launched MiHome, the device itself was found and installed, this is how it looks on the main screen:

The widget provides information on the number of PM2.5 particles, as well as temperature and humidity in the room, filter life and the amount of purified air:

Below there are buttons for on / off and select the operating mode. By pressing and holding the "favorites" button, you can set
fan speed in "selected" mode:

Productivity varies accordingly from 1-4 m2 to 42-45 m2.

Also, in the settings, you can schedule the device to turn on / off, set up automation, parental control, and much more:

Service
The manufacturer recommends changing the filter every 180 days; for this, there is a special hatch in the back of the device:

There is a replacement instruction on the manhole cover (in Chinese).

Extracted filter:

The filter collected dust, but not as much as we would expect in 4 months of operation.

Photos in the interior:
Despite its small size, the cleaner fits well on the coffee table near the sofa.

Usage impressions
The main criteria for buying a purifier were a laconic design and the availability of replaceable filters, in principle, this purifier fully satisfies them. However, I expected more from him. The first month I used it in automatic mode, it did not create noise in it, but there was no noticeable effect either. Now the purifier is operating in the “selected” mode (9-12 m2), while the noise level remains at an acceptable level, but it blows much stronger than in auto mode. At night, a transition to quiet mode (from 0:00 to 7:00) and back is programmed. To my regret, the dust has not significantly decreased. Perhaps this is due to the wrong location. Or you need to increase the fan speed (but then it starts to make a lot of noise) ... But the cleaner removes unpleasant odors perfectly (and attracts the attention of incoming guests). :)

Bottom line: the cleaner removes all odors very well, but I did not notice a significant reduction in dust. I think that this may be due to the fact that it must be placed on the floor, and I have it on coffee table by the window (so far there is simply no way to put it on the floor, there will be a place, I will definitely put it on and write my feelings).

Thank you all for your attention!

Hello, friends

introduction

I looked at this device for quite a long time, first of all, I was bribed by a fairly affordable price for such a class of devices - at the level of manufacturers unknown to me such as ZENET, STEBA and others that are present in local stores, and many times cheaper than more advanced air washers - prices for which start at around $500

The principle of operation is that the fan of the device drives the air through a special filter, thus cleaning it from fine dust particles - PM2.5.

Many articles have been written about the harm of these particles, for example, smart Chinese, who have long understood what danger these particles represent - have long been monitoring their level in the atmosphere, like a weather forecast. Here is an excerpt from one of these articles under the spoiler -

Additional Information

PM2.5 is particulate matter less than 2.5 microns in size. Their diameter is 30 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. These include a mixture of dust particles, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates suspended in the air. It is these substances that cause clouding of the air, typical for the centers of the largest metropolitan areas.
PM2.5 particles can travel deep into the airways and settle in the lungs. Inhalation of these particles can cause irritation to the eyes, nose, throat, or lungs, as well as bouts of coughing, runny nose, and choking. But this does not exhaust the danger of their impact. The World Health Organization standard for PM2.5 particles is 25 micrograms per cubic meter. Exceeding this limit can disrupt the normal functioning of the lungs and cause the development of many dangerous diseases, such as lung cancer, respiratory infections and cardiovascular diseases. According to a report published in the US in 2010, PM2.5 particles are responsible for the premature deaths of 7,300 to 11,000 Californians annually.

Purchase

After waiting for the next flash sale, which took place in early April, I bought the hero of the review for $150, in total, together with delivery, he cost me $156.53

By the way, on the Russian version of the store - add ru. before gearbest - usually much cheaper, works with many products.

Additional Information

Delivery and unpacking

The delivery took place almost as usual, like all other parcels, except that the parcel hung at the sorting center of the delivery service a little longer than usual. Just in case, I called hotline- and on the same day the parcel was brought to the house by a courier.

The box is rather big, 58 cm high, for scale I put an ordinary stool next to it.

There is a sticker on the box from which you can get information about the overall dimensions - 29 * 29 * 58 cm, maximum power consumption 31 watts, weight 6.2 kg, operating voltage 100 - 240 V.

This cardboard box, unlike for example from ceiling lamp- where inside there was another, white beautiful packaging, for the cleaner it is the only and main one. Inside, under the cover is a foam seal and the device itself.

Appearance, dimensions

Dimensions of the cleaner without box - 52*24*24 cm.

The lower part of the case has perforations - a lot of holes through which air is taken in for cleaning

In the upper part there is a fan, which occupies almost the entire surface area, which provides draft and ejection of purified air upwards. Also on the top is a device control button.

In the upper part of the frontal surface there are indicators of the operating modes of the device - Auto, Sleep mode and Favorites.

There are also perforations on the right and left sides, but occupying a slightly smaller area than on the front.

On the back there is a removable cover that gives access to the internal compartment with an air filter.

Above the cover there is a button for resetting the filter - this means resetting its state to 100% when installing a new one, and the cover behind which there is a dust sensor, which is also periodically suggested to be cleaned.

Purifier device

Air filter

During transportation, in the inner compartment, in addition to the filter, there is also an instruction manual and a power cable.

On the inside of the lid, in Chinese, but in clear pictures, the replacement process is shown air filter, and cleaning the dust sensor

The air filter has a diameter of 20 and a height of 30 cm

The filter has a multilayer structure - the outer part is close-up

Inner part

Power cable

Gray cable, length - 6 feet, approximately 1.8 meters

Plug - Type I, triple - Chinese-Australian-New Zealand.

But on the other hand, there is a relatively standard triple connector, which is often found, for example, when connected to laptop power supplies. I found the right cable in my stash

Which fits perfectly with the purifier - eliminating the need to change the plug on the native cable

Although for me personally - there is no need for this, thanks to extension cords from Xiaomi - using which I do not have to think about whether the plug will fit or not.

Fan

During normal operation in automatic mode and in sleep mode (the fan rotates in all modes, except for the off mode), the noise of the engine and fan is completely inaudible.

By the way, if you look from the inside, you can see that the fan is dual

When the concentration of dust in the air rises, or when forced into forced mode, air noise is heard, at a maximum comparable to the operation of a robotic vacuum cleaner, only the air noise prevails, and not the engine.

Software

To work with the cleaner, we need the same application - Mi Home. After switching on, the device is automatically detected and connected to the system. The connection process is standard, I won’t describe it again, I’ll just say that in the general list of devices in the Mi Home application - the Grid View display mode - which I call “Remote Control for UD” - information about the level of pollution is displayed in the purifier square. 600 PM2.5 - I didn’t put it in the cement shop, it was such a value out of the box.

Appearance of the control plugin

Depending on the operating mode - either the status is turned off or the amount of PM 2.5 is displayed, in sleep mode - the background turns blue.

Scrolling below you can see the temperature and humidity, climate comfort and air quality rating, the number of days until the filter is changed and the location. It also contains information on the amount of purified air. The menu contains settings - operating instructions, filter reset (analogue of a button on the back), notification of incorrect operation of the cleaner, sound accompaniment of actions, brightness level or turning off the LEDs. It is possible to disable hardware buttons - from children, and control the device only from the application.

In the advanced settings menu, you can rename the device, give it access from another account, determine the room in which it is located, enable / disable the tray icon, check for updates, etc.

In scenarios, the device can work as a condition, the options are not translated here, the first pair is humidity - less than and more than the set value, the second is the number of detected particles PM 2.5 - less and more than the set limit. As actions, you can set the on, off, sleep, automatic or favorites mode.

Favorite mode - allows you to manually set the intensity of air purification, depending on the area of the room. Adjustable from a minimum of 1-4 and a maximum of 34-37 square meters.

The power consumed by the device - from 1.5 watts in standby mode to 28 watts at full power - in Favorites mode 34-37 sq.m. Working in automatic mode - the power is regulated depending on the degree of pollution.

The plugin can be Russified, I use the Opel translation plugins (from w3bsit3-dns.com) which are

The work of the purifier

The purifier has been working for me for more than a week, in automatic mode, in the smart home scenarios, the transition to sleep mode at 22:30 and the exit from it at 6:00 on weekdays and 8:30 on weekends is registered. Also, the cleaner automatically turns off when the window is opened - the opening sensor. It reacts adequately to pollution when I expanded the recess for the socket in order to install another Aqara switch, which raised dust - reacted to it by turning on cleaning at increased power.

As of this time - 5% of the filter was used up, worked for 149.2 hours, which is equivalent to being in some Chinese forest for 6.2 days, and cleared 5585 cubic meters air, which can fill almost 2 balloons.

Externally, according to the filter - no traces of use are visible at all

Has the air become cleaner - at least in terms of the purifier - yes, from a level in the region of 40-50 PM2.5 - it lowers to a value of 10-15. Has there been less dust - due to the condition of the furniture? Not particularly noticeable, the dust as it was about the same and remained. Subjectively - it has become easier to breathe, although this may be the effect of self-hypnosis - although a constantly running fan mixes the air in the room, it becomes noticeably cooler with intensive work.

This is where I will complete my review, except that I will add that the device does not work with the Domoticz system, but this is not necessary in principle - the cleaner works in automatic mode, I just added a shutdown when the window is opened.

Video version of the review

I hope the review was interesting - thank you for your attention.
