The coolant in the heating system must constantly circulate. Its movement is provided by circulation pump, which is indispensable in heating systems with forced circulation. But in addition to the movement of the coolant in the system, the circulation pump can perform an energy-saving function, which is especially relevant in old systems of large diameter pipes.

How does this happen? If you buy a circulation pump and install it in the heating system, then the coolant will move faster and return to the boiler without having time to give up all its heat. Accordingly, significantly less energy is required for reheating, which can result in savings of 20-30%.

Circulation pump prices and types

Circulation pumps are of two types: with a wet and dry rotor. In "wet" pumps, the rotor is separated from the electric motor by sealing rings, and the function of lubricating and cooling the motor is performed by the coolant. Its advantages are:

  • noiselessness;
  • compactness;
  • economy,
  • as well as long uninterrupted operation and ease of repair and operation. The disadvantages of "wet" type pumps include low efficiency, which limits their use in domestic heating systems.

In "dry" type pumps, the rotor does not come into contact with the coolant. They are much more powerful than "wet" ones (if the efficiency of "wet" is about 50%, then the efficiency of "dry" is 80%), which determines their use in industry. "Dry" pumps create noise and are demanding on the purity of the coolant.

When choosing a circulation pump, the price plays an important, but still secondary role. In the first place are the features of the heating system of a particular building and the pressure characteristics of the pump itself, which must provide the necessary amount of heat to maintain the required microclimate. The calculation is usually made by heating engineers, who take into account the average outside temperature, the material of the walls, roof and floor, the characteristics ventilation system and other characteristics. The result of the calculation is the indicator of the volumetric supply of the coolant in the heating system.

An important factor when choosing a pump is also its flow rate, or the dependence of the power of the heat source on the difference in water temperatures in the supply and return pipelines. As for manufacturers of pumping equipment, pumps from European manufacturers GRUNDPOS and Wilo have excellent characteristics, also good quality Korean KITURAMI are famous. Among Russian companies, the undoubted leaders are Gileks and Espa, which provide comparative quality at a lower price.

Mounting dimensions

Circulation pump Wilo TOP-S 40/10 DM standard series with flange connection, housing with cataphoretic coating (for corrosion protection), pre-selectable speed levels, indicator lamp for direction of rotation and generalized fault signaling. This pump is used for forced circulation of fluid (water or glycol solution) in heating, air conditioning, cooling, floor heating, as well as hot water supply in private or apartment buildings.

Wilo TOP-S 40/10 DM is equipped with a wet rotor, which means that the motor is constantly flushed with water and cooled at the same time. This design can significantly reduce the noise characteristics of the pump and the mechanical friction of the rotor. The pump can be controlled both in manual and automatic modes. Manual (setting of speed steps) or automatic control (complete motor protection with integrated electronic shutdown system) is provided.
