Good afternoon - today we will talk about slate boards. But not about school, but about kitchen chalkboards. Those on which we write with chalk reminders to ourselves ... notes for our neighbors ... outlines of recipes ... and just funny phrases for a good mood.

I will not only show you the designs of slate surfaces in the kitchen. I will tell you where to buy slate paint and how much it costs. I'll tell you how make your own slate paint from ordinary shop paint. And I will also tell you how to make such slate boards at home - and what they can be.

So let's start with a photo... and slowly work our way up to the tutorial on how to make chalk paint.

Slate apron - over the sink in the kitchen.

These aprons in the kitchen can be made by covering the wall with special slate paint.

Or buy a slate coating in the form of a film and paste over the apron area in the kitchen with it.

In stores you can find slate paint. In another way, it is also popularly called chalk paint. This paint creates a rough staining surface on which the chalk easily leaves marks, and does not slip, as with ordinary paints. Below I will tell you how to make slate paint with your own hands from simple building paint (for walls or floors) and reveal a simple secret to getting a slate effect.

And for those who love ready-made store solutions for their tasks, here is the answer.

For example, TIKKURILA paint. One liter is enough for 9-12 square meters. m. surface (consumption depends on the porosity of the wall). It can be applied with a brush or by spraying from a spray can.

The same company has paint Magnetic– it creates magnetic surfaces. We paint the wall in this paint, and we no longer need to glue children's drawings with adhesive tape to the wall: everything can be attached to magnets.

And many other companiesalso produce SLIDE and MAGNETIC paints of all colors– including in aerosol cans. Such spray cans are convenient if you want to paint complex streamlined surfaces with slate paint - for example, a refrigerator.

And if chalk paint is applied over 2 layers of magnetic paint- you will get a slate surface that will hold the magnets. It's great.

Chalk walls in the kitchen - how to work with slate paint.

HOW TO APPLY SLIDE CHALK PAINT to a wall

  1. Preparing the wall. Removing wallpaper or leftovers old paint. We clean the wall with a rough brush ... we close up the irregularities with putty. We grind with sandpaper (sandpaper) No. 100 - 150, remove dust from grinding with a brush.
  2. We cover the wall with a preparatory layer of primer for painting.
  3. Open a can of slate chalk paint. Thoroughly mix it (because the paint contains a finely dispersed powder and it could settle to the bottom during storage).
  4. We apply a layer of paint ... constantly stirring it and during the application ... let the layer dry and apply another.

Chalk wall can be made in every corner of the kitchen. Not necessarily over the sink. You can choose a place over the kitchen sofa.

Children will enjoy crawling on the sofa and drawing cute pictures ... tigers that look like cats ... police cars ... shaggy hedgehogs ... pears with worms ... dear mom ... and an apple pie that she bakes.

On such chalk walls can be placed.

How to make slate PAINT yourself.

(quick and easy - do it yourself)

SIMPLE WAY. In a glass with black paint, put 2 tablespoons of ordinary cement. (Or any building mixture that contains cement, for example, putty. Or grouting powder for filling cracks in tiles.

The fact is that any paint turns into slate when we add to it SOMETHING FOR WHAT THE chalk will be caught on. Agree, chalk just glide over ordinary paint without leaving a trace. But worth in regular paint add fine powder (cement), as we already get a colorful surface of gentle roughness - just such a degree that the chalk leaves a clear mark.

Wonderful chalk boards for the kitchen can be made from the most different materials.

for instance back of the bed. We stuff a plywood shield on it - paint it in chalk paint.

Or a regular frame for inserting a photo. At such frames have a plywood bottom, and we will paint this bottom in slate paint (and throw the glass out of the frame) - and we get a wall-mounted chalkboard.

Or fit ordinary tray. Or maybe made of durable plywood cut any shape with a jigsaw (for example, the shape of a house).

Slate FILMS - for furniture.

(perfect if you don't want to mess around with paint).

Can make slate surfaces WITHOUT chalk paint. Just stick on them slate film. Such chalk films are sold in construction and design stores - the cost is from 850 rubles per tube. The size of the tube is usually 2 meters by 45 cm.

These slate chalk films can be pasted on furniture pieces on the cabinet door. On the back of a chair so I can sign where is the chair. To the buffet and even to the beautiful earthenware dish.

Can be pasted over with slate film (or painted with chalk paint) gaps between kitchen shelves or hanging shelves.

Such boards, by the way, look great not only in the kitchen, but also in the hallway(you can leave notes) , a in the children's room, they will delight your kids with the opportunity to scribble to their heart's content.

We probably remember the film "Pokrovsky Gates", where the main character's aunt wrote down the phone numbers of her nephew's girlfriends on the wall. She always found a pencil string, but not the pencil itself, to write down the next phone.

With a chalk board will always be in place, because they can only draw on this board. In the nursery, a whole surface for drawing with chalk is a paradise for a small child, he can easily and without prejudice to repairs be able to show his creativity and creativity, and he can do it every day on a clean surface.

For an older child, an entire wall to write on would serve as good place for fixing the multiplication table, spelling rules, native and foreign alphabets.

Such a surface can be the most unexpected places: in the pantry where you store food; above the bed, where you can write a message to your loved one every morning; sign on the chest of drawers: underwear, socks, scarves; make the surface of the table suitable for writing with chalk and you can make inscriptions of any kind: who will sit at what place at the table, and besides, this is another convenient place for the child’s creativity.

  • Sandpaper (grit 150, i.e. take thin paper)
  • Sponge

Instructions for making a slate board

The first stage - preparing the paint

Mixing paint with grout. For small surfaces (such as a door panel), we will need 1 cup (300 ml) of paint and 2 teaspoons of grout. Pour the paint into a mixing container, add the grout and mix everything thoroughly with a mixer. The solution should become homogeneous, i.e. without lumps.

The second stage - we apply to the surface of the future board

We apply the solution with a roller or foam brush on a painted or primed surface. It is advisable to pre-wash and dry the surface. Coloring small areas, we pass the roller over the surface several times to be sure that the entire surface has been painted over in an even layer. Let the surface sit and dry.

The third stage - we clean the surface

Thoroughly clean the surface with fine sandpaper. After that, clean the surface from dust and dirt.

The fourth stage - we check the readiness of the surface

Checking the quality of our surface: take a piece of chalk and paint over them the entire treated surface. We remove the remains with a barely damp sponge.

Now you can make such a surface in any place convenient for you. However, do not forget about such trifles as a small stand at the bottom of the surface to collect loose chalk. Otherwise chalk while writing will fall straight to the floor.

In today's article I will tell you how you can make a school board with your own hands. I don’t know about anyone, but as a child I tried to make a drawing board at home, and according to my recollections, I only made my parents laugh. I hope that after reading the article, you will be able to please your kids good advice, and help them build a real blackboard on their own. Of course, you can buy a school board, but believe me, following the instructions below, it will not be difficult for you to build it yourself, the main thing is to be careful and consistent.

Blackboard materials

To make a school board with your own hands, you will need the following tools and materials:
- Chipboard (Size: 1999 × 1349x16 mm) - for the base;
- Frosted glass (Size: 1997 × 1347x5 mm) - for front surface. Glass, if you do not have the experience to cut it yourself, it is better to order it already cut from the seller.;
- Aluminum U-shaped profile (thickness 25 mm, internal distance 20 mm) - for the frame. Length: 2 pieces (top/bottom) - 2002 mm, 2 pieces (side) - 1347 mm. Before starting work, aluminum profiles must be cut at an angle of 45 degrees, and washed down with a small file.
- Black or dark green enamel. You can also use paints with fine porcelain abrasive, which are characterized by increased strength.
- Canopies for wall mounting
- Self-tapping screws
- Silicone sealant(you can take glue for glass)
- Insulating tape for sealant
- If there is a desire to make a school board with opening sidewalls, then you will need butterfly loops or piano loops.
To make it more convenient to assemble our school board, it is better to do all the work on a table, the top of which should be smaller than the base of the board.
1. We lay the chipboard on the table, and clean its surface from various contaminants.
2. On the cleaned chipboard, in the form of parallel strips, we apply glue in increments of 50 mm.
3. On top of the glued base, carefully and evenly apply glass. Second hands will not interfere here.
4. Slightly move the glass from side to side so that the glue is evenly distributed between it and the chipboard. Next, press the glass to the base. Remember that since the glass is smaller than the base, the allowances on all edges should be the same.
5. Around the entire perimeter, the edges of the glass must be attached with electrical tape, and it should be wider than the grips of aluminum profiles.
6. Leave the board for 24 hours to dry.
7. Glass is painted. Since the glass is frosted, the paint should lie flat. For this purpose, it is better to paint with a spray gun, and for better spraying, the paint is diluted with a solvent in a ratio of 5 to 1. After the first painting, leave the glass for a day to dry, then apply another layer of paint.
8. After the glue and paint have dried, you can fix the aluminum profile, which is attached to the chipboard at the ends with 4 × 16 mm self-tapping screws around the entire perimeter of the board. Such fasteners will be enough, since the profile does not carry any load and is used more for decorative purposes.
Well, our school board is ready.
To mount it on the wall, you can use various fasteners, it is already better to look at the building materials and accessories market.
If a sheet of metal is glued between chipboard and glass, the board will not only be for drawing, but also for attaching various magnets to it.

At a certain age - not very respectable, but already almost reasonable, everyone was mischievous and schoolchildren. Even inveterate honors students dreamed of conducting a smelly chemical experiment under the window of an athlete - so as not to force a scientist to hang out on a horizontal bar like a sausage. Having your inventive backbiters, you already have to ask the exact opposite question: How to eliminate the consequences of the actions of a household demon? Today, specifics are on the agenda: Do-it-yourself school board made or restored.

Today we will make a modern school board

Board materials and accessories

First you need to find out what the modern blackboard is made of? We will need:

  • Chipboard for hard base. Sanded, 16 mm thick.
  • Frosted glass front. You can take thin, but not less than 3 millimeters.
  • U-shaped aluminum profile 25 mm wide (including 3 mm glass). The internal distance in such a profile is 20 mm - just right for our purposes.
  • Matte enamel dark green or black. If you can buy paint with fine porcelain abrasive (used in machine tools and for painting outboard motors) - it will be just perfect. It will last ten years longer.
  • High-quality insulating tape for the seal - so as not to reinvent the wheel.
  • Sheds on the wall.
  • Silicone sealant or glass adhesive.
  • Self-tapping screws.

If you intend to make a swing board, in the manner of a trellis, you will need butterfly loops. But today the school will manage with the usual textbook measuring 2000x1350x25 mm.

Blackboard detailing

In any case, you will have to order glass cutting in the workshop. We recommend that you immediately pay for handling and shipping - to avoid injuries and accidents.

  • Glass 1997x1347 mm.
  • Chipboard 1999x1349 mm.
  • 2002 mm - 2 pieces, upper and lower profile.
  • 1347 mm - 2 pcs., side profiles.

All aluminum profiles are sawn at an angle of 45 degrees and the saw cut is processed with a small file or needle file.

Making a blackboard

Before you make a school board, you need to glue the main surfaces and process them. We used a table smaller than a blackboard and occupied it for three days.

Place chipboard on the table and carefully remove crumbs, sawdust, etc. from the surface with a damp cloth. Apply adhesive in strips parallel to the long side of the board, spaced approximately 50mm apart. Ask someone to help you, because it is almost impossible to carefully place the glass in a horizontal position on top of the adhesive base alone.

Glass needs to be “fidgeted” a little, pressing it over the entire surface. It is smaller than the base, so distribute the tolerances evenly and immediately grab the perimeter with electrical tape. The tape should not be wider than the grips of the aluminum profile.

The glue will dry for about a day, but after three hours you can start painting the glass. Enamel will lie well on frosted glass if you do not decide to apply it with a brush. For a spray gun, the paint must be diluted with an appropriate solvent in a ratio of 5:1. Two approaches with a break of a day were enough for us to achieve a uniform color and an acceptable surface.

We snap the aluminum profile only after the complete drying of the coating and glue. You can fix it in the ends of the chipboard with 4x16 self-tapping screws around the perimeter of the board. Since it does not carry any load, but serves only as a frame, this will be enough.

We figured out how to make a school board ourselves, or rather, for now, only a school board module. It can simply be hung on the wall by screwing elementary fasteners to the base, or it can be combined with mechanisms or fixtures.

So, taking a wider profile and gluing glass on both sides of the chipboard, we get a ready-made module for a turntable or hinged blackboard. Using a sheet of metal instead of glass (of course, not a three-millimeter thickness, 0.4 mm body sheet is quite enough), we get a magnetic board and so on.
