Ribbon embroidery is a very interesting activity. With each new stitch, you can see how a real masterpiece is born before your eyes: magical and unique.
To learn
and flowers, you need to stock up on the materials that we need to work. All of them are sold in shops for needlewomen and are inexpensive. Of course, for each flower you will select ribbons of the desired color and width. Now we will consider only those materials that are needed for any embroidery.

Embroidery materials

  • Basis for embroidery. It can be a special canvas if you are embroidering a picture, or just a fabric if you are embroidering on clothes or a cosmetic bag, or a bag;
  • A hoop to help secure the fabric. Their size also depends on the size of the future product;
  • Special needles for embroidery with ribbons. They are distinguished from ordinary ones by an elongated ear;
  • Mouline threads for decorating stems and small details;
  • Ribbons of appropriate width and color;
  • Scissors.
  • When all the materials are prepared, we can start embroidering flowers.

    Embroider flowers with ribbons

    Poppies Poppies are very colorful wildflowers. Many associate them with girlish beauty and youth.
    In order to
    we need a wide red ribbon (about 5 cm wide), ribbons for embroidering leaves, dark green 1 cm wide, dark green cord for decorating the core, red thread for sewing on a wide ribbon and black thread for sewing on a cord.

  • To begin with, let's draw poppies on the main fabric with a simple pencil, which we will embroider. This is necessary in order to clearly know where the flowers, buds and leaves will be located;
  • Then we stretch the fabric on the hoop so that one of the painted flowers is in the middle;
  • Around the core of the flower, we begin to sew a red ribbon, collecting it at the place of sewing with an accordion, so that a frill forms. When you have sewn the tape in a circle, we also pick it up a little. To make it more convenient to work with the tape, it is better to singe its edges with a lighter. So they will not bloom;
  • We proceed to the design of the middle of the flower. To do this, you need to take 3-4 cm of the cord and sew it on, also gathering it. Then we sew around the cord with black thread, substituting a pencil under each stitch. Do not pull too hard on the thread so that it sags. Thus, we get a characteristic antennae;

  • Gently moisten the tips of the antennae with PVA glue and dip them in semolina. The flower is ready. We also embroider the rest of the flowers, if there are several of them in the picture;
  • To make a poppy bud, fold the red ribbon like an accordion and sew it, but only in one direction. The edge of the tape is also collected and hidden under the bottom. Next, take a thin green ribbon and begin to make the green part of the bud. To do this, we make stitches, laying a little one on top of the other. At the end, we make a couple of stitches across the previous ones, making out the petiole;
  • To make poppy leaves, embroider them with a thin green ribbon according to the pattern. Do not tighten the stitches too much to give the leaves volume. You can twist the tape a little.

    Lilac A blossoming lilac branch for many of us symbolizes the arrival of spring. ITS flowers are tender, and the aroma is unforgettable.

    To embroider a branch of lilac with ribbons, prepare a thin purple or white ribbon and brown or swamp floss threads for embroidering the stem.

  • On the fabric we draw an approximate arrangement of future flowers;
  • In order to make a branch with blooming flowers, we fix the thread from the wrong side of the work;
  • Bringing out the needle and thread front side and we collect the tape on the needle (3-4 cm of tape), we bring the needle to the wrong side and fasten the thread. So we continue until we issue a branch. Therefore, it is important to initially make a preliminary sketch;
  • To make lilac buds, first embroider the stem with floss. Then pull a thin ribbon into a special needle. Fasten the tape on the wrong side and bring the needle to the front side. Wrap the tape several times around the needle, and again bring it to the wrong side through the same hole. Tighten the ribbon carefully. Continue to make such buds along the entire length of the branch.

    Pansies Pansies are flowers that surprise with a variety of colors. They are yellow, red, white, pink, purple, burgundy. Therefore, in the choice of tapes, you can not limit yourself. The width of the tape can also be different. It depends on the desired flower size.

  • Collect the petals before we sew them to the fabric. To make the top petals, take a 7 cm long piece of ribbon and fold it into a Latin V. Secure the bend with a pin. Run running stitches along the outer edge of the tape. Pull the threads and pull off the tape. Secure the ribbon with a few stitches;
  • To make the bottom petals, take a ribbon of a different color. Fold a length of 7 cm three times. Secure the folds with pins. Make diagonal bends to form a U, secure the bends with pins. Sew the ribbon along the outer edge. Pull the ends of the threads and pull off the ribbon. Connect the top and bottom of the flower, and sew it to the fabric;
  • The pansy flower is ready. You can add it by sewing a bead in the center.
  • peonies

    Peonies are lush and noble flowers. They delight the eye with bright, contrasting colors and a delicate aroma. In order to
    we need ribbons 2.5 - 3 cm wide.

  • We make a preliminary sketch on the fabric;
  • We embroider peony petals in a circle with straight stitches, laying one on top of the other. In the middle we leave a little free space;
  • Embroider the middle of the peony. To do this, take a ribbon 1 - 1.5 cm and again embroider the middle of the flower with straight stitches. It is better to twist the tape a little before each stitch;
  • To finish the peony embroidery. We make several loose loops in the middle;
  • Complete the flowers by making leaves. They are embroidered with a simple ribbon stitch.

    Chrysanthemums When autumn is in the yard and everything around is painted in gray-brown tones, chrysanthemums are the only ones able to please us with bright colors. To embroider chrysanthemums, ribbons 0.5 cm wide are needed.

  • It would seem that such a complex flower, but it is embroidered quite simply. Initially, the inner rows of petals are made. All work is done with ribbon stitches. First, the petals should taper at the base and diverge towards the top;
  • Each next row of petals should slightly overlap the previous one. In total, 5-5 rows are obtained;
  • We supplement the flower with leaves and stems. Chrysanthemum embroidery is finished.

  • cornflowers

    Summer, delicate flowers - cornflowers. They fascinate with the depth of blue. No wonder they are also called the eyes of the sky. To embroider cornflowers, we need a ribbon 0.5 -0.6 cm wide. You can take different shades: from rich blue to light blue.

  • We draw a contour of future colors on the main fabric;
  • We embroider petals. They are made with simple ribbon stitches around the core. It is important that the stitches are slightly different in length and overlap each other a little. This will give the cornflowers pomp and characteristic “terryness”;
  • Let's start embroidering the core of the flower. To do this, you need to make several knots, such as for embroidering lilac buds;
  • Our cornflowers are ready. Instead of knots, you can sew a few black beads into the middle of the flower.

  • We embroider the head and body of our butterfly. Let's make one knot as for embroidery with lilac ribbons;
  • We bring the needle to the front side close to our knot and make one stitch 3 cm long. The body and head are ready;
  • Embroider wings. With colored ribbons, make two stitches in different directions from the body;
  • With a black floss thread, you can embroider the antennae of a butterfly, and by sewing on two small beads, we get eyes.

    Let's turn to history

    Interestingly, ribbon embroidery has very long historical roots. Even in ancient times, girls tried to decorate their image with multi-colored silk stripes. They were woven into hair, decorated with clothes. It should be noted that this pleasure was not cheap, since silk was brought from China itself and was very expensive.

    In the Middle Ages, when silk threads began to be made in Europe, almost all noble persons sought to decorate their clothes with silk ribbons with a gold border. Moreover, each estate was supposed to use ribbons of a certain color.
    But the real dawn of the art of embroidery with ribbons fell on the Renaissance. The French king Louis XV himself loved to delight the ladies of the court with cute trinkets embroidered by him with his own hand. At this time, every self-respecting lady tried to decorate the corset of her dress with small roses or a sprig of lilac embroidered from satin ribbons. Then came the linen. It was also decorated with satin ribbons. different color, turning the most ordinary things into works of art. Today, wardrobe items of royal courtiers go under the hammer for crazy money.

    The tradition of embroidering flowers from ribbons on clothes quickly migrated from France to the islands of Great Britain, and from there spread throughout Europe.
    After the Second World War, interest in ribbon embroidery, as well as other types of needlework, subsided a bit. This was caused by the fact that people needed to restore the losses caused by military operations. But in the last few decades, the fashion for handmade products has gradually returned. Interest in ribbon embroidery also returns.
    Bags, cosmetic bags, paintings decorated with ribbons are popular. You can also create unique items of clothing using embroidery.
    This article describes the lessons on embroidery from flower ribbons. Having mastered each of them, you will be able to compose compositions, combine them into baskets, embroider pictures and create amazing drawings. In addition, on our website you can find many descriptions with step by step photos, which details how to create patterns, leaves, and butterflies.

    We present to your attention a master class on embroidery of poppies with ribbons. From it you will learn how to beautifully decorate a panel using this interesting technique and master several basic ribbon embroidery techniques.

    Master class "Poppies embroidered with ribbons"

    1. Prepare all the materials necessary for work: base fabric, satin ribbons (wide red and narrow ribbon or green or golden cord), embroidery needles, and beads - black and white (yellow). You will also need a drawing on which you will do embroidery (it is quite possible to sketch it yourself). Ribbon embroidery for beginners involves a simple pattern of poppies.
    2. Mark the pattern on the fabric (with a simple pencil, fabric marker or ordinary chalk). Focusing on it, embroider the middle of the first flower with beads. The black “velvet” center and contrasting color glare look elegant.
    3. Take a piece of red ribbon 2.5-3 cm wide and about 10-15 cm long (depending on the desired size of the flower) and sew with small stitches along the cut line. Use red thread to match the ribbon.
    4. Then "turn" and lay small loose stitches along the entire tape, in a circle.
    5. Pull this seam and attach the future flower to the center - the inner circumference of the poppy should be about the same size as the outer circumference of the beaded center.
    6. Now you need to connect the lines of both circles with a neat seam. One ribbon stitched in this way forms one poppy flower. Try to make the ribbon bends beautifully in waves, giving them the maximum resemblance to a real poppy.
    7. The outer edge of the poppy can be left as is, or it can be sewn in several places with a hidden seam to the fabric - this way the flower will turn out to be more open.
    8. This is how the wrong side of the fabric will look at this stage.
    9. It's time for the side flowers. For them, use a tape a little shorter.
    10. It is better to first make the petals themselves, and then take on the middle, since it will be oval.
    11. Poppy stems can be embroidered with a needle with a wide eye, bringing the ribbon to the wrong side, or can be attached to outside fabrics with hidden stitches.
    12. On the tips of the long stems we embroider the petals of the "background". To do this, it is enough to make a few stitches “forward the needle”.

    How to embroider red poppies with ribbons

    Before starting our master class, let's prepare all the materials and tools necessary for work:

    • needles;
    • scissors;
    • lighter or matches;
    • synthetic winterizer;
    • threads are ordinary and "Grass";
    • satin ribbons of different colors and sizes.

    Our little master class will tell you how to make red poppies, but you can experiment a little and choose some other color scheme for these wonderful flowers. Embroidery with dark blue or bright orange poppies looks very beautiful and unusual.

    Getting Started with Ribbons:

    Let's start the master class by making leaflets for flowers. To do this, we will need to cut off a piece of green ribbon and figuratively cut it in the shape of a leaf. Then we will have to carefully melt its edges with a lighter or matches. In addition, we will need to give volume to the future leaf, so in some places we will sew it with a thread.

    Now we need to cut off a piece of red ribbon, the length of which should be approximately 10-12 cm. We need to bend and sew the edges of the resulting strip. Then, having made beautiful folds, we will have to stitch the petal along the entire length. In total, for one flower, we need 4-5 of these petals.

    After that, we need to sew together all the petals. It may be a little difficult for beginner needlewomen to form a flower right away, so we will advise them to sew on the petals one at a time.

    In order for our poppies to look more realistic, we need to make a core for them. To make it, we first need to cut off a small piece of green tape. And then we will have to draw a circle on it. Then we need to slightly pull the thread and form a small ball of padding polyester to place it inside the future core. Now we can tighten the thread to the end and sew the edges.

    Then you will need to mark the core into 5 equal parts using Mouline threads. Please note that when doing this you need to hide the last loop in the middle and tighten it tightly. Now with the help of threads you need to make small stamens. The resulting stamens can be further decorated if desired. To do this, you need to gently apply white toothpaste to their tips. Of course, such wonderful poppies embroidered with ribbons will look more elegant:

    It is worth noting that there is another way to make unusual stamens, which, most likely, will seem simpler for beginner craftswomen:

    Take a piece of cardboard and make this pattern out of it:

    Wrap black Mouline threads on it:

    Remove them from the cardboard template and cut the resulting loops:

    Spread the tips with PVA glue and sprinkle with semolina:

    In order to make poppies embroidered with ribbons with such a core look more neat, you can trim the tips of the stamens a little.

    Having finished making all constituent parts flower, we will have to sew them together.

    Now comes the crucial stage, during which you will definitely need a scheme. However, there is no need to be afraid, as the scheme will be quite simple, and you can easily "sketch" it yourself.

    So, mentally imagine what your embroidery will look like. Take the base on which you plan to embroider beautiful poppies with ribbons and arrange flowers and leaves on it. Then make a small sketch with a pencil or chalk and you will have a future pattern for embroidering a picture:

    In order to make our embroidery more varied and original, we will also embroider poppies with ribbons, which will be, as it were, turned in the other direction. The photo below shows how to make one such half-blown flower:

    It is worth noting that such embroidery with ribbons of a flower will not cause difficulties even for beginner craftswomen, so you can safely make several half-blown buds.

    In order to make this half-blown bud more attractive, we can decorate it with green sepals.

    Ribbon embroidery is an exciting hobby and needlework. Each time you create a stitch, you can watch how beautiful patterns arise.

    Before you start taking the first steps and patterns, in order to get embroidery from ribbons, for beginners, you need to purchase accessories that are sold in specialized stores. Embroidery of various colors is done with colored ribbons, which are selected individually in length and width. Our ribbon embroidery will be carried out on the example of several types of flowers, such as lilacs, pansies, peonies and chrysanthemums, as well as cornflowers and lilies of the valley.

    Before starting such an interesting work for beginners as ribbon embroidery, let's look at its description, and what we need, namely:

    • to embroider a picture, you will need a canvas, and if these are simple flowers, then we embroider them on ordinary fabric or clothes;
    • for embroidery, be sure to use a hoop so that your drawings do not slide in different directions;
    • floss threads of different palettes;
    • satin ribbons of various colors;
    • scissors.

    After all the accessories will lie in front of you on the table, you can start embroidering.

    Ribbon flowers

    Red field poppies

    Poppies are field plants. When you see a field dotted with these flowers, such beauty causes complete delight.

    Poppies and their embroidery from ribbons is made with a wide base material. The leaves will be emerald in color from a narrow ribbon. The middle of the flower, we embroider with threads and attach a lace.

    Let's start the first steps of embroidering the pattern:

    spring lilac

    Fragrant lilac, we associate with spring and the great holiday of May 9, therefore, many people love this plant very much.

    Lilac ribbon embroidery is done in almost the same color scheme. Purchase purple ribbons and brown floss for the stem. And start embroidering:

    • apply lilac in the form of a picture on the canvas, using a pencil;
    • before you start embroidering lush lilac patterns, you need to fasten the thread from the inside;
    • stick out the needle and thread and start collecting tape on it, after that, return the needle back to the wrong side. We do such manipulations until we finish making the first branch;
    • lilac bud, also not difficult to do. First of all, we embroider the lilac trunk with brown floss. Insert a narrow ribbon into the needle, doing it all from the inside out, and stretch it to the front side. Wrap the ribbon around the needle, a couple of times and again, pass it to the wrong side, as in the photo. Tighten the button. Such elements are made along the entire length of the branch. Spring lilac, finished.

    Little pansies

    Pansies are a fully summer flower that can bloom in several shades at once. When buying ribbons, you do not need to limit yourself in choosing a palette, as well as the width of the ribbons. It all depends on how you see pansies. We begin to make the first strokes of embroidery:

    • pansies, namely a flower, are formed before embroidery. You need a piece of tape, seven centimeters long, which is folded in the form of a seagull. Place the intersection of the tape, pierce with a pin. Making small seams, walk along the edge of the tape. Then, pull the main material a little and pull off the pansies. Now, you can sew pansies to the fabric;
    • we begin to make petals that are under the bottom of the main flower. Take a different color of tape, seven centimeters long and fold it in three. Pierce the center with a needle and also sew the edges with a thread, and then assemble with gentle movements, into an accordion;
    • pansies, decorate with white beads.

    Ribbon peony

    When lush peonies bloom, the street becomes bright and colorful, and the incredible aroma just intoxicates. Embroidery from pion ribbons begins with the purchase of a ribbon and a pattern:

    • transfer peonies to the fabric;
    • we begin to embroider peonies with a straight seam, doing it all in a circle, with an overlay on each other. We do not touch the middle, we leave it not embroidered;
    • for the middle, we use a thin ribbon, which we embroider with straight stitches. Before you make the first stitch, scroll the tape a little;
    • in order to completely make peonies, you need to create a pair of loose loops;
    • the leaves are embroidered with a regular ribbon stitch.

    scarlet chrysanthemums

    Autumn flowers of chrysanthemum, perfectly complement this period of the year. Especially if you embroider them on a canvas that will resemble autumn. To do this, take a ribbon 0.5 cm wide and proceed to embroidery:

    • chrysanthemums are complex on the outside, very easy to embroider. First of all, we begin to embroider the inner tiers of the flower. We do this with the help of ribbon stitches. The petals are made thin near the base, and the transition to the upper part expands;
    • each new tier of petals should overshadow the previous ones. Basically, chrysanthemums consist of five rows;
    • at the end we embroider leaves and stems, as well as patterns. Chrysanthemum work completed.

    blue cornflowers

    Cornflowers can be found exclusively growing somewhere in the fields. Their blue bloom can be seen from afar. In the people, they are also called the eyes of the sky. Take blue ribbons, no more than 0.6 cm wide and get to work:

    • draw a sketch on the canvas;
    • embroidery from ribbons of petals is done with ribbon stitches, in a circle around the middle of the base of the flower. Their length must be different. And the stitches are overlapped. Thus, their appearance will resemble the original;
    • for the middle, cornflowers, are embroidered with knots similar to a lilac bud;
    • we finished making cornflowers, in the middle of which, instead of knots, you can make beads.

    Video: Cornflowers from ribbons

    flower basket

    First of all, you need to be able to draw a basket on a piece of paper. Let it be rounded or with rectangular edges. Take a brown ribbon, and we begin to make the entire outline of the basket with the seam that we know from the text. We fix the end of the tape from the wrong side. If you want the ribbon embroidery to be more effective, you can combine several shades of brown for the basket. Next, we make transverse seams, interlacing them with horizontal stripes. Look at the photo, the same grid should form. Such original weaving, in the future, can be used in embroidery of roofs of houses and fences, as well as pieces of furniture. With straight stitches we make the handle of the basket, in a curved form. Here is the first basket.

    Beautiful butterfly from ribbons

    These butterflies will decorate your flowers wonderfully. Ribbon embroidery is done as follows:

    • make such a knot as during lilac embroidery;
    • stretch the needle to the front side, near the knot and make a stitch that will become the body of the butterfly;
    • embroidery from ribbons of wings is done with two stitches in parallel directions from the body of the butterfly;
    • with a black thread, we embroider the antennae, and instead of the eyes, there will be miniature beads.

    We embroider white daisies

    Such daisies are embroidered very quickly and easily. It won't take you long. With a ribbon stitch, petals are embroidered from a white ribbon. And the core of the flower is filled with several nodules.

    Sunflowers ribbon embroidery is done in the same way as our chamomile ribbon embroidery. The difference is only in the width of the tape.

    Bouquet of tulips

    Ribbon embroidery tulips is done by applying several stitches. To do this, you need the main material, three centimeters wide. Stick the needle out on the right side and stitch up. Side by side, next to it, we make the second seam, and fix the ribbon from the inside. Bouquet of tulips, completely done.

    Ribbon embroidery irises and lilies of the valley can be done using the same stitches as in the previous colors. Detailed description, how to make embroidery from ribbons based on photo and video materials, is on our portal.

    As you have noticed, ribbon embroidery is a very interesting activity that will bring great pleasure, not only to those who did such work. Ribbon embroidery will attract your attention for a long time, with interesting plots.

    Summer is leaving, but you really want to keep at least a little of its warmth as a keepsake... It is this warmth that breathes in the picture with poppies and spikelets "Memories of Summer".

    For work you will need:
    for poppies: red ribbon 25 mm wide (I used Majestic rayon ribbon (you can take satin, but then preferably soft);
    For spikelets: Majestic rayon ribbon 7 mm wide or satin ribbon 6 mm wide;
    For leaves: “Batik” ribbons from the Majestic company (tape with a tone transition) 1, 7 and 13 mm wide (you can take a satin ribbon 3, b and 12 mm wide);
    Iris threads for the middle of poppies (threads can be replaced with beads, small beads or stamens at your discretion) and threads for spikelets;
    Fabric: linen (you can choose any other fabric);
    Needles, hoops, scissors.

    How to embroider a picture with ribbons.

    It's September outside, but I still want to embroider summer compositions. Today you will see MK for embroidery of spikelets and poppies. In many books on ribbon embroidery, authors offer options for assembled poppies (collected with a thread and a needle). And I want to offer another version of the poppy in the ribbons.

    It will be exactly embroidered, and not a flower collected on a thread. And so that the poppies in the composition are not lonely, I suggest you master the spikelet embroidery. This is one of the two spikelet options that I use.
    We embroider the first three petals with straight stitches (Fig. 1).

    Then, from under the middle of the third petal, we bring the tape with a needle to the front side (Fig. 2), make a loop in the direction of the first three petals, as shown in Figure 3, and with the help of a ribbon stitch we go inside out, thus securing the resulting air loop from tapes (Fig. 4).

    In the same way, we embroider the fifth petal in a mirror way (Fig. 5).

    Usually, for poppy splendor, I add a couple more petals. I make them in the same way as the previous two, and arrange them approximately as shown in Figures 6 and 7.

    We embroider two poppies at some distance from each other, while keeping in mind that there will be leaves, buds and spikelets between them. My advice: think over the composition in advance so that you know exactly where and what element will be on your work.

    We embroider leaves for poppy with ribbon stitches with a ribbon 12 or 13 mm wide. With the same tape we will make a stalk for an unopened poppy. But first, let's embroider a poppy bud. To do this, it is enough to make a French knot, which will need to be blocked from above with one straight stitch.

    It remains to add two straight stitches on both sides of the bud with a green ribbon 13 mm wide and embroider the stem (Fig. 8).

    It remains to make only the middle of the poppies. For this, there are many different options. I make a French knot in the middle of the flower, overlap it with a straight stitch horizontally, and then around the green center in a circle with a black thread "Iris" I make French knots (Fig. 9).

    We embroider a spikelet. We start from the top of the spikelet. We make a straight stitch from top to bottom with a length of 5-6 mm (Fig. 10).

    To the left of it, in the middle of the first stitch, we bring the tape “on the face”, and with a straight stitch we take the next step, as shown in Figure 11.

    Then we make a similar stitch to the right of the first stitch. And then we continue to alternate such stitches either on the left or on the right side of our spikelet (spikelet embroidery is very similar to braiding) (Fig. 12, 13).

    It remains with long stitches (threads that you have at hand) to embroider the ostins of our spikelet. I found a thin thread with lurex (Fig. 14).

    If desired, you can add foliage and blades of grass to the composition with a ribbon 1 mm wide.

    Master's advice!
    When you buy ribbons in a store, ask to see their color and size up close, and be sure to touch them with your hands - make sure that they are not thick, like paper, but soft, like fabric.
