How to translate Euro windows to winter time. Plastic windows: summer and winter mode, adjustment and setting

At the time of buying plastic windows always pay attention to the presence of a winter mode in the structure. Window installations from the company Rehau have long been using this function in the manufacture.

It should be noted that not all windows can be switched to summer-autumn modes. This is typical for more expensive models that have more than just opening and closing functions. Rehau windows just belong to this category of these products.

What are the modes for?

In winter, the windows must fulfill the function of keeping the room warm. This is very important, because not all models are resistant to a strong drop in temperature. In summer, it is important that dust and dirt from the street does not get into the room, as well as there is access to fresh air.

To find out if your window structure is equipped with such functions, you need to inspect it. There should be a hole on the side of the sash, it is located on the pin.

Windows must be switched to winter mode in such cases:

  • if air begins to flow through the window, or the window is normally unstable to cold temperatures;
  • if the tightness of the window cannot contain the ingress of air;
  • the room temperature has become too low.

Windows from the manufacturer Rehau are easy enough to switch to winter mode, you just need to follow the instructions. First, you need to completely clean the window from dirt, especially the fittings. Cleaning can be done with a special brush.

If the grease on the structural parts is outdated, replace it. This will significantly speed up the process and help to adjust the mode as accurately as possible. Then, deal with adjusting the required flaps. Find all the necessary pins on it (their number depends on the size of the window).

In order for the seal to be pressed correctly, it is necessary to move all the levers. It is worth carefully examining all the pins, since the modes can be marked on them. Use a screwdriver and pliers or a hexagon to turn the pins. Turn each of the levers as far as possible.

Close the window to check if the operations are correct. If the closing becomes tight, then the function is set. Try inserting a piece of paper between the sash and frame. If the sheet was then pulled out without much effort, something was wrong.

It is best to check the availability of modes immediately before buying windows. Then you will be consulted on all issues and given a couple of tips for setting up functions.

Adjustment of windows. Transfer of fittings to winter mode:

Modern fittings for plastic windows provide for the possibility of adjusting the sash pressure. The operating mode is determined by the clamping force. There are three modes in total: weak (summer), strong (winter) and medium (standard). They must be used wisely, taking into account the current state of the structure and the level of comfort in the room. If it becomes necessary to switch the flaps to winter mode, you should determine the type of eccentrics and study the instructions below for adjusting them.

Changing the mode on PVC windows: unnecessary or necessary

By default, the wizard who mounts the windows sets the mode at his discretion, he can be guided by the season or his own experience. Therefore, during installation, it is advisable to find out what clamping force will be installed.

The mode directly affects the rate of wear of the structure:

  • At summer the sealing rubber is not under pressure. The sash fits without a gap, but does not squeeze the seal. This mode is most preferable, since the rubber service life is maximal with it. Plastic structures expand and contract freely when the temperature outside the window changes, which puts less stress on the welds.
  • Standard the operating mode already slightly squeezes the seal. It perfectly protects against dust, noise and drafts. It can be used all year round, but the rubber wear rate will be higher.
  • At winter In mode, the sash fits as tightly as possible, the seal is squeezed, you can feel this by the tight turn of the handle. With constant use of this mode, the rubber wears out over several seasons, it loses its shape and is no longer able to recover. When switching to summer mode after prolonged use of winter mode, blowing is possible.

The ideal operating mode for PVC windows is summer. If there is no discomfort for the residents, the windows provide good insulation from cold air, dust and street noise, then it can be used constantly.

The transfer of the flaps to a strong clamp is necessary in the following cases:

  • There is a blowing, cold air is felt along the perimeter of the sash.
  • The seal is worn out, has lost its elasticity or has shrunk.
  • With heat losses, in order to save on space heating.

Not all types of fittings are equipped with a mechanism for switching the mode, as a rule, the cheapest options do not have such an opportunity. Kits from the middle and expensive segment are most often equipped with movable pins (eccentrics), changing the position of which, you can adjust the clamping force. These are fittings of the brands Roto, Maco, Siegenia Aubi.

Rules for using the modes:

  • The period of use of the sash in the winter mode should be shorter than the summer one. It is recommended to switch the mechanism to a tighter fit in late autumn, return to its original position in early spring.
  • For the first year or two after installation, it is advisable to use only the summer mode. There is no need to translate into winter.
  • You cannot use a strong clamp in the warm season - this can lead to serious damage to the fittings and an increased load on the sash welds, since the structure expands when heated.

To determine that the sash does not adhere poorly to the frame and you need to switch the clamp to a tighter one, a simple way will help: you need to clamp the edge of the notebook sheet between the sash and the frame and turn the handle to the "closed" position, then try to remove the paper. If the sheet comes loose easily, the fit is loose. If it is pulled out with difficulty or is torn, then the clamp is sufficient for the winter season and there is no need to tighten the pins.

What the trunnions look like and where are they located

Pins or eccentrics are part of the hardware locking mechanism. They are located on the handle side of the sash. They are easy to spot when you open the window. By changing the position of the eccentrics, you can adjust the clamping force. Window sashes standard size equipped with 3 pins: bottom, center and top. There may be more of them depending on the size of the sash.

Eccentrics differ in shape, which determines how they are adjusted:

● Some circular eccentrics are off-centered, with multiple points or one line running across the entire pivot. In this case, the largest point or the longer part of the risk serves as a reference point. If these marks are directed closer to the room, then the mode is winter, closer to the street - summer. You can also focus on the center of the eccentric, the closer it is to the street, the stronger the vestibule.

Pivot positions with off-center and long scoring.
Trunnion with multiple points

Which tool to use in order to transfer plastic windows to winter mode or return to summer mode also depends on the shape of the eccentrics. If they have holes, use the appropriate tool (hex, sprocket or screwdriver). The position of the pins without special holes (oval) is corrected with pliers.

How to translate eccentrics to strong pressure with your own hands

Mode switching is a simple operation. You can cope with it yourself without involving a master. Before adjusting the eccentrics, it is necessary to prepare plastic windows for winter operation. This is the usual procedure for servicing plastic profile products:

  • Clean the frame surface from dust and debris.
  • Wipe all metal parts of the fittings with a dry and soft cloth.
  • Apply special grease or industrial petroleum jelly to the moving parts of the hardware mechanism.
  • Open and close the sash several times to distribute the grease evenly.
  • Remove excess composition with a dry cloth.

It is better to clean and lubricate the fittings before adjusting, since debris and sand can accumulate on it; during movements, the protective coating on the metal will be damaged by abrasive particles, which will lead to corrosion.

Instructions for adjusting windows for the winter:

  1. Find all the eccentrics on the open sash. You need to translate everything at once. Some models of fittings are equipped with recessed pins, which must be pulled towards you before starting work.
  2. Find the mark on the trunnion indicating the downforce. The closer the mark is to the street side, the stronger the fit. For trunnions with an offset center, a different rule applies - the closer the center is to the street, the denser the bridging.
  3. Using a window wrench, an asterisk or pliers, turn the eccentric: oval to a horizontal position; round - with a risk (dot) towards the street; round with an off-center - wide side into the room.
  4. Eccentrics do not have an extreme point, they scroll around their axis. The maximum rotation when switching from summer to winter mode is 180 °. From standard to winter or summer - 90 °.
  5. You can check the result using a piece of paper.

In the spring, it is necessary to return the sash to its original position.

If the sash does not adhere well to the frame from the hinge side or sagging is found, you will need to adjust the hinges and scissors using a hex wrench. To do this, you need to remove the decorative plugs, find the holes on the hinges for the entry of the hex key and align the position of the sash vertically and horizontally. If the fittings provide for pressure adjustment from the hinge side, you can make the fit tighter around the entire perimeter. The clamp is adjustable on the bottom hinge or scissors.

The ability to adjust the clamping force - useful property accessories. This allows you to reduce heat loss in winter and extend the service life of sealing rubber and plastic by weakening the pressure in the warm season. But in order for the windows to serve as long as possible, you should not abuse this function.

Installing plastic windows is often not enough, since they also need to be properly maintained. If used improperly, problems can arise, and in this case, the windows will not protect the room from wind, cold and noise. Most often, you have to pay attention to the named problem when you need to change the mode. To do this, you need to configure.

Why regulate reinforced-plastic windows?

Everyone knows that plastic windows have two main modes: summer and winter, each of which performs its own role. Window manufacturers usually indicate in their recommendations how to properly operate and set up a metal-plastic structure. We can say with confidence that this avoids a lot of problems.

We will tell you how you can do this correctly later in the article. It is important to remember that all the recommendations will help to properly set up the metal-plastic structure and keep warm in your home.

Why is it necessary for the "summer-winter" mode?

Few people know how to customize the window, so some people prefer to turn to specialists for help. But there is nothing difficult in setting up the windows, and if you carefully study all the recommendations, then you can carry out all the work on adjusting the structure yourself.

Initially, the adjustment is made when the windows are just being installed. This greatly simplifies operation, but, unfortunately, does not allow you to choose desired mode in future. For example, if the windows were installed in the summer, then in the winter they need to be reconfigured, and vice versa.

Experts say that it is simply impossible to do without adjustment, since it is a kind of repair, which allows you to determine the preparation of the structure for operation in the cold season. Setting up plastic windows for the winter improves their tightness, prevents drafts from entering the room. Thanks to her, the microclimate in the room will always remain at a normal level.

If the adjustment is carried out incorrectly, then the room will always be present high humidity, and sometimes even frost on the windows. If the structure is operated for a long time, then the tightness becomes minimal, and there are many reasons for this.

Often the adjustment of plastic windows is required when a breakdown occurs. To avoid this, they need to be constantly adjusted as soon as the seasons change. If you leave the windows in summer mode, then cold air masses will be able to freely penetrate into the room, which will naturally affect both the level of heat and the energy consumption for its conservation. By setting the windows for the winter in the desired mode, you can keep the warmth in the room.

When is window adjustment required for winter?

Setting up plastic windows "winter-summer" may be required in several cases, which should be paid attention to in more detail:

  1. The windows should be adjusted immediately after the structure has been installed.
  2. Even specialists can sometimes make mistakes during installation, such violations entail deviations, cracks begin to form. In this case, a full-fledged repair and adjustment of plastic windows will be required.
  3. A technical inspection should be carried out every two years. If the frame is operated without such checks, then some deviations may be detected.
  4. The window may fail if it was installed in a new building or in an old house, as the building may sag. It is not difficult to notice this - after adjusting the windows for the winter period, cold air will still penetrate into such a room. In this situation, it is important to take into account the possibility of subsidence of the building, and the problem can be avoided.

Naturally, these are not all the reasons why the window may need to be adjusted for the winter period, but they are the main ones that the consumer may face.

Instructions for adjusting the window for the winter

Setting up plastic windows for the winter with your own hands has always remained the most pressing issue. To attract specialists to work, you need to spend a fairly decent amount of money, and in order to do all the work yourself, it is enough to carefully follow the recommendations.

The structure must be prepared for winter in advance, otherwise the owner may face big problems during operation. The fact is that it will be very difficult to fix anything during a drop in temperatures.

First of all, you need to pay attention to the fittings. Setting up the fittings of plastic windows allows you to make the windows fit snugly against the frame. If the windows were previously adjusted incorrectly, then you will notice strong drafts in the room.

It doesn't take too long to adjust the window. In order to carry out all the work, you will need to use a hex wrench, which almost every owner in the house has. At the end of one sash there is an element that serves for locking, otherwise it can also be called a clamp. It is on a rectangular platform, but can be moved up or down. It is very important that this clamp is shifted in the direction of the street, when a strong cold snap is planned, just this will provide the owner with a good tightness.

Use a hex wrench to properly tighten the clamp. It must be twisted counterclockwise, applying a small amount of effort. Thanks to this, he will be able to turn into the correct position and fix himself. As soon as all the manipulations are completed, it will be possible to say with confidence that the work has been done at the proper level, and now it will be warm and comfortable to be in the room even in the most severe cold weather.

How to customize different types of fittings for the winter?

Each manufacturer of fittings fights for quality in its own way, and this also affects the adjustment of the plastic window. Some developers use a complex design structure, and some use a simplified one. Consider all types of fittings and how you can customize it:

  1. The Roto company has round heads in its designs, which is why the owner may have a problem with the keys, since it will not be possible to find a suitable one. Here you will have to suffer and look for a key with a large cross.
  2. Maco made sure that the heads were the most comfortable - the manufacturers made them oval, and you can twist them with ordinary pliers.
  3. The most reliable fittings are considered to be the TORX company. To switch to winter, you will need to use a hex wrench.

Some developers of plastic windows use special protection in their system, in which the mechanism can be rotated 360 degrees, but as soon as the owner does this, the mechanism will return to its place. By the way, it is often highly discouraged to do this, since the mechanism may simply break, and then it will need to be completely replaced.

It should be noted that the adjustment of plastic windows without specialists requires special attention and patience. As soon as one head is twisted, it is worth checking how tightly the window closes. As a rule, adjusting one head does nothing, therefore, gradually tightening the rest, you can check the tightness from all sides and all the sashes of the metal-plastic window.

another way

When setting up plastic windows, you should pay attention to the condition of the seal. Often the reason for drafts from cracks lies precisely in its wear. Such a seal is made of rubber. If the material is not properly looked after, then soon it will be possible to notice that no adjustment of the windows is able to save the owner from cold penetration into the room.

To prevent the seal from wearing out too much, you should use a special silicone grease, which motorists love to use so much. Thanks to her, the rubber is covered with a special molecular film that lasts for six months.

Over time, the seal can be completely changed, and then the window settings will become even easier.

What problems can arise when adjusting windows?

Today, some plastic windows have complex structure... Naturally, setting up plastic windows with your own hands in this case can cause certain difficulties. Such windows often require correct preparation by winter, therefore, one adjustment in this case cannot be dispensed with.

Windows require special attention to themselves, and if they are not switched to summer or winter mode in time, then soon their service life will come to naught. It is important to remember that if they are always in winter mode, they will soon fail, or rather, the seal will deteriorate. Switching from winter to summer mode is also beneficial because more fresh air will penetrate into the room.

Some are wondering how to adjust plastic windows on their own. It should be noted that all manipulations are very simple, so you do not need to seek help from specialists. Most often, difficulties arise when cylindrical eccentrics are used in accessories. Before starting work, you must first carefully examine all the elements of blocking the window and try to adjust the screws. Window manufacturers, as a rule, leave their recommendations, so you can use their tips.

Step-by-step adjustment

When setting up plastic windows is required, you should adhere to some recommendations:

  1. It is imperative to carefully study the end of the sash. This part of the window is moving, with cylindrical elements that, when moving, go into the window frame and fix the sash in one position. Among the elements, you can see two stripes, which are divided into two semicircles.
  2. To switch the window to winter mode, you just need to turn these strips towards the street. In this case, expansion is obtained, and the window sash automatically falls into the bar, while the frame is pressed more strongly, and air cannot freely enter the room.
  3. You can return the windows to summer mode in the same way, but for this you need to turn the sash to reverse side, more precisely, towards the premises.

Innovation in customizing the window for the winter

Today, windows are considered to be innovative. In this case, this term refers to windows with a three-chamber double-glazed window - such glass allows you to save heat by 70%. Some people think that the named windows are absolutely unsuitable for the summer period, but it is safe to say that they will reflect the energy of the sun.

You can freely install a climatic valve on plastic windows, then setting up plastic windows with your own hands will become even easier. In this case, without any effort, you can make sure that air from the street does not enter the room, and, conversely, make sure that there is more fresh air in the house, providing good ventilation. Using the mechanism correctly, you can achieve the expected results.

If you did not succeed in adjusting the window, then you should take care of replacing the seal. After all, when the product has been in use for a long time, setting up plastic windows may be almost impossible and all that remains is to replace the seal. Over time, it can lose its properties, cracks appear in it, and recommendations for switching to winter mode will not give the expected effect.

It will not be difficult, you should buy the right material and carry out the appropriate manipulations. It is advisable to carry out the replacement not when it becomes cold in the house. The old seal is removed from the upper or lower corner, as soon as this work is carried out, the grooves should be processed, or rather, cleaned of dust and dirt, otherwise the new seal will not be able to lie down as it should. After that, a new seal begins to fit from the upper corner, which is applied over the entire width.

It is very important to make sure that it fits snugly. Only when all the work has been done, you can begin to fix the new seal. In no case should the rubber be stretched, since then it will not match the size of the window. Remember that turning the eccentrics all the way is also not recommended, otherwise the seal will need to be replaced again. Provided that all the recommendations are followed, the window adjustment will take place quickly and efficiently.

The design of plastic windows assumes the ability to adjust the degree of pressing of the window sash, this function is designed to transfer the system to seasonal winter-summer modes.

Plastic windows are installed in almost every third apartment or private house, but not all users know about operational capabilities, which provide metal-plastic windows.

One of functional features- transfer of the plastic window mode from winter to summer mode, and vice versa. This ability is determined by the variety of accessories used. Of course, this property is not inherent in all PVC windows, but only in those with more modern fittings.

Modes of plastic windows - what are they and what they are

  1. Winter mode of plastic windows- this mode allows you to ensure a more tight fit of the window sash frame to the window frame and, accordingly, helps to save heat in winter time of the year;
  2. Summer mode of plastic windows- differs in a less tight fit of the sash, which ensures the possibility of constant air circulation between the room and environment, i.e. allows you to implement the micro-ventilation mode.
  3. Standard position(the mode of medium pressing of the sash to the frame - the eccentric is in the middle), as a rule, a window with a double-glazed window works equally well in this mode both in winter and in summer, providing optimal pressing of the seal.

Why do you need to adjust the modes of plastic windows

Setting the modes makes it possible to extend the life of the window. Adjustment allows you to change the degree of fit of the sash to the frame. Indeed, in winter, the material shrinks, and in summer it expands. Adjustment of PVC window fittings makes it possible to reduce the wear of the seal and fasteners.

In addition, some of the reasons for changing modes include:

  • blowing out of the window. Cold air in winter or dust in summer is something to avoid when installing a new window;
  • sash opens / closes poorly. For example, if a plastic window is stuck in the ventilation mode, then one of the reasons may be - an incorrectly set mode;
  • sagging of the sash. It is a consequence of the wear of the hinges, it is eliminated by switching to winter mode or replacing the fittings.

The ability to switch between modes is implemented in fittings from well-known manufacturers, such as: Maco, Roto, Siegenia Aubi, GU. However, today, customizing fittings is more of a rule than an exception, for all fittings that are above the budget class.

How to determine if it is possible to switch windows to winter mode?

Often during installation, the user does not receive information about the possibilities of window fittings. To understand whether there is a transfer to different modes for a particular PVC window, you need to study appearance(marking) fittings, in particular trunnions.

A trunnion or eccentric is a piece of hardware that allows you to adjust the degree of pressure of the sash to the window frame. It is located on the side of the sash.

If on the surface of the trunnion there are holes for the key (in the form of an asterisk, a screwdriver, a hexagon) or the trunnion has an oval shape, this indicates that this hardware provides the ability to operate the window in different seasonal modes.

Do I need to switch windows to winter mode?

In autumn, with the approach of cold weather, it is recommended to transfer the accessories to winter mode. Otherwise, there is a high probability of blowing from the side of the sash. If the seal is in good condition, you can leave the window in summer mode. During the warming period, switching the fittings to summer mode helps to reduce the pressure (load) on the seal and is a prerequisite for its long-term operation.

How to determine in what mode plastic windows?

There are two ways to check which mode the window is in:

  • Assess the degree of pressure of the window sash to the frame. Take a sheet of paper and place it between the sash and the frame. If, after closing the window, the squeezed sheet is pulled out with minimal effort, then the window is set for summer mode, if it does not stretch (breaks), then for winter mode.
  • Look at the position of the pivot (eccentric). There is a dash (dot, asterisk) on the round pin, by which the mode can be estimated. If the dash is oriented towards the room, this is the winter mode, if towards the street it is the summer mode.

For oval trunnions, a different rule applies. If it is located vertically, a weak clamping of the sash to the window frame is provided, which allows us to assert that the window is set to summer mode. If horizontally - strong pressure, i.e. winter mode.

How to transfer plastic windows to winter mode or summer mode

The transfer between modes is simple, but every step needs to be paid attention, otherwise, the hardware will fail and it will need to be replaced or overhaul window. Some users prefer to apply for the service to the company that installed the windows.

However, the translation process is not difficult and it is quite possible to complete it on your own, spending no more than half an hour of time on everything.

How to adjust plastic windows for winter mode with your own hands

Adjusting the pins on plastic windows - step by step instructions:

  1. determine the location of the trunnions. The number of eccentrics depends on the size of the sash. As a rule, there are three of them on the side of the handle and one on the opposite side (where the hinges, awnings, as well as the top and bottom of the sash). You need to find all the pins, because when changing modes, you need to change the position of each of them;
  2. wipe all window elements and thoroughly clean the fittings. This will exclude the ingress of dust when turning the trunnions and protect them from mechanical damage;
  3. clean the lubricated elements. After the transition, it is better to reapply the lubricant;
  4. consider the pins. Find stripes or other symbols on their surface that indicate the mode of operation of the window. If the pins are oval, pay attention to their position relative to the horizontal;
  5. turn each of the pins to the required position. You need to turn either with a hexagon (or another suitable tool), or with pliers (for oval trunnions).
  6. check the correctness of the translation by placing and then removing a sheet of paper from a closed window.

Note. Some manufacturers of plastic windows make the trunnions "recessed" into the sash. Before turning them, you need to pull them out, then set them in the desired position and drown them again. The turning procedure is the same as the procedure for transferring hands on a mechanical wristwatch.

Please note that when switching to winter mode, a long dash (or dot) should be directed towards the room (i.e. towards the sealing rubber), and in the case of an oval trunnion, it is located horizontally.

How to transfer plastic windows to winter mode - video

For your information, the ventilation mode of plastic windows in winter mode works as standard and the window opens in the usual way.

The transition to summer mode is carried out in the same way, in reverse order. Knowing the sequence of switching to winter mode, it is easy to set the window fittings to summer.

Features of customizing window fittings - rules

  • despite the fact that the fittings provide for the possibility of transferring between modes, it is not recommended to do this in the first year of window operation. The window is still functioning optimally;
  • translation is performed every six months. Moreover, the duration winter period shorter than summer;
  • it is undesirable to operate the window in summer in winter mode, this increases the rate of wear of the seal.

Should you switch plastic windows to winter mode?

The constant change of modes leads to the fact that the seal loses its properties. This happens especially quickly in winter mode, because the pivot pressure on it increases. In addition to the effect of the trunnion, the seal is affected by low temperature and high humidity. This leads to the destruction of the seal (it starts to blow, there is a need for it), the worn out gum of the seal needs to be replaced. In summer mode, the seal will last at least twice as long.

Conclusion

Despite the possibilities offered by modern window fittings, you need to assess the feasibility of each option. On the one hand, switching to winter / summer mode provides a more comfortable temperature regime indoors and reduces heat loss through the window opening. On the other hand, the transfer contributes to the rapid wear of the seal, which necessitates its replacement and additional costs. Therefore, it is necessary for each user to switch windows for winter or not, based on his personal preferences.

Plastic (even high quality) windows with a high level of thermal protection and high-quality waterproofing are susceptible to both sweating and freezing in winter. This is not at all a sign of marriage or improper installation. Most likely, you simply did not take care of proper seasonal preparation of your own windows.

Today we will talk about this topical topic. So, how to transfer plastic windows to winter mode, get rid of drafts and achieve additional frame insulation? To answer this question, let's take a closer look at all the "weak points".

Winter mode of plastic windows and fittings

About her - first of all. Basically, modern windows are equipped with fittings designed for 2 or 3 seasonal modes. It is either "summer-winter" or "summer-winter-autumn". Some window owners do not even know about it, and when it gets cold they begin to curse "hack" manufacturers. But we will correct this misunderstanding - let's talk about how to transfer plastic windows to winter mode. The photos posted in the article will help the reader in terms of clarity.

Most often, the situation is fixable: it all comes down to turning a pair of bolts. We translate our windows into "winter" and forget about the problems. To do this, pay attention to the stub axle. What it is? A pin is called a miniature mechanism with which the sash can be held in a slammed position, most often its location is along the perimeter of the window. Remember the click when the sash slams shut? This triggered the pin.

How do I find her?

It may look like a ring or an oval arm. If it is a nut-shaped ring, it has a hole mark on it. Check: when it is close to the frame with the seal it is winter mode. It ensures the greatest fit of the sash to the profile. Why you shouldn't use it all year round? Yes, simply because the seal will quickly wear out and will be released "in circulation".

The pin (with its oval shape) is adjusted very easily, without any tools. In the form of a nut - with a hexagon. Turning the ring with it, we achieve the movement of the small circle-mark closer to the seal. Going back to "summer" is as easy as switching plastic windows to winter mode - by turning the ring.

Handles and hinges on the eve of cold weather need to be lubricated with machine oil or vegetable oil or special means from a syringe tube.

Let's take care of the seal

It is a rubber gasket between the sash and the frame. It is also considered to be a sealant for the edges of a glass unit. At the end of autumn, feel it around the perimeter and make sure of its elasticity, especially in the corners. Normally, it bends easily and quickly takes on its initial shape.

If this is not the case, it is impossible to reanimate it with any forces, you will have to change it. If everything is in order, then before transferring plastic windows to winter mode, take care of its preparation by purchasing it in an aerosol or a tube with a syringe.

The grease is applied with a brush to a well washed and dried sealant (it is better to take dish gel, but not alcohol or abrasives). If the seal is multi-lobed, place the product between the petals first.

Do not forget about the sealant around the edges of the glass unit. If there is no glazing bead in this part of the window (it is not provided for by the design or is simply broken), the lubrication of the glass unit seal is carried out in the same way as usual.

What to do with the seams?

These are the seams between the profile and the window opening. It is there that the main heat "flows" from the room. Before transferring plastic windows to winter mode, make sure there are no drafts. In addition to the latter, condensation and even ice on the window will tell about the broken thermal insulation. An additional layer will help get rid of these problems. polyurethane foam... Even more reliable - plastic plates or drywall in combination with mineral wool.

It is not recommended to insulate plastic windows using "folk" methods - cotton wool, home-made putties, etc. Most of these tools are not only ineffective, but can also cause harm - fabric and cotton wool retain moisture inside, which leads to fungus and condensation, and covering the gap with wax or molten paraffin wax, you risk damaging the factory seal.

How to switch plastic windows to winter mode (roto)

This is a popular well-known consumer market in various modifications and supplied by various manufacturers in many countries. The principles of its adjustment are the same for any model.

How to transfer plastic windows to winter mode with such fittings? Modern models adjustable with a 4mm hex wrench, older ones with pliers and a screwdriver. What are the main problems requiring our intervention?

If, when closing the window sash, we hit the frame with it at the bottom, it sags. A small lift is required: remove the protective cap from the lower loop (at the top of it), wielding the hexagon inserted into the recess, raise (rotating clockwise) or lower (counterclockwise) the frame by a couple of millimeters. This is usually enough.

When the sash "collides" with the frame in the middle, it needs to be adjusted horizontally. This is done with special screws on the upper and lower hinges. If you rotate them clockwise, the sash will move closer to the hinge (touching will decrease), against - to the frame. Displacement is possible by no more than 2-3 mm. In the same way, we fight the skew.

Other problems

If, despite all the same, there is a draft (it is simply blowing from the window), better pressing the sash is achieved with eccentric locking pins (you can find them by looking at the end of the sash in the open position).

Some ROTO fittings models contain several adjusting eccentrics, try to act on them evenly.

If suddenly, during quick opening, the blocker did not work correctly, and the handle is jammed in the middle position between the open and tilted window modes, look for the "clip" (tongue) below the handle itself and turn it parallel to the seal. The handle will be able to turn gently. Does not work? This means that the contact of the tongue with the blocker is broken - unscrew the mechanism and put a thin plate inside so that the parts can come into contact again.

Sometimes it happens that the handle is simply loose or needs to be replaced (you decided to put a "child" lock). Turn the bar 90 ° C to cover its base, unscrew the screws and install a new one. If replacement is not needed, just tighten them up.

Do not forget about the care of the fittings

For the mechanism to serve for a long time and efficiently, the fittings need lubrication. To do this, we take WD-40 silicone or automotive grease and apply it to the points of contact. This should be done at least once a year, before transferring plastic windows to winter mode, and preferably twice as often.

Other, more complex problems require a service call.
