Rounding machine is a woodworking machine designed to produce rounded logs from roundwood and used for the production of log cabins. The design of the machine "Master OTs-550

Structurally, the rounding machine "Master OTs-550", with the help of which high-quality log rounding is carried out, consists of three sets of assembly units:

  • Bed (Rail way).
  • Equipment bed (rail track).
  • Movable portal with an actuator.

The rail track (bed) of the machine of standard configuration consists of three sections of 3.0 m in length, providing in the basic version of delivery the processing of logs (log rounding) up to 7.5 m. sections. The design of the rail track provides for its adjustment, both along the plane and the width of the guides, and also provides the ability to place the unit on slopes with an inclination angle of up to 15°. Attachment docking points ensure the alignment of the front and rear headstocks of the log fastening system and their mutual alignment with an accuracy of 10`-30`, as a result of which the log cylindering is carried out with high quality.

Bed (Rail way). Mounting and equipment of the rail track To ensure all possible operations log processing (including log rounding), the rail track is additionally equipped with the following units:

  • Log loader from the ground;
  • Two taper selection devices with log fixation along the axes of the front and rear headstocks.
  • Log drive hydraulic station with control valve.
  • Front and rear headstock, providing alignment.

The movable gantry with an actuating mechanism consists of a carriage on which a mechanism for vertical and horizontal automatic movement of the tool is located, an automatic feed mechanism and an electronic or manual control system, fig. 9. The control / control system allows you to smoothly position the position coordinates of the tool and the workpiece to be processed with an accuracy of 0.5 mm.

An aspiration system with a floor cleaning function is ordered additionally and provides for 95% suction of chips formed during the rounding of a log and inter-shift cleaning of the workplace from its residues.

The automatic feed mechanism provides automatic (depending on the load on the main engine) or manual smooth control of the feed rate of the machine portal from 1 to 30 m/min. Properly executed automatic machine feed is very important for cylinder lathes. Autofeed is not only a relief for the operator, but also a significant increase in the speed and quality of work, and ultimately the productivity of the cylindering machine. This is due to the fact that the presence of auto-feed guarantees a smooth ride and the absence of jerks when changing the processing speed, which directly affects the quality of the log processing.

About the OTs1I22 machine, its history, advantages and prospects.

The OTs1I22 machine tool is a product of the machine tool industry (Ministry of Defense Industry), which in Soviet times often surpassed the successes of the machine tool industry in terms of its results. Each branch ministry prepared machine tools “for itself” with varying degrees of success, copying both foreign machine tool builders and each other, but the most serious successes in the creation and production of metal-cutting machine tools in the 80s and 90s were achieved in Minaviaprom and the Ministry of Defense Industry.

Machine OTs1I (in the past - OTs "Izhevsk") was the result of a number of developments of NITI "Progress" and was brought to mass production in the early 80s. Over the years of mass production, more than 630 machine tools were produced, which are still the basic part of the machine tool fleet of the milling and drilling group at many enterprises of the former Ministry of Defense Industry.

In order to assess the technical level of the machine, it is worth remembering how the domestic machine tool industry developed (namely, CNC machines for milling, drilling and boring groups) at that time?

Most of the enterprises followed the path of creating machine tools of the “machining center” type by constructively refining previously produced basic machines: equipping them with tool changers, CNC, and ballscrews. So, for example, on the basis of boring machines, machines with a horizontal spindle of the type 2204, 2205 (Odessa), 2623PMF4 and others were created. Sverdlov, part of the machine tools manufactured in Ivanovo. Universal milling machines with a vertical cantilever layout became the basis for the creation of machines of the GF2171 type (Gorky Plant of Milling Machines). On the basis of vertical drilling machines, machines of the SS2V type (Sterlitamak) arose. Even in state-of-the-art machines such as 400V, 500V, 600V and others, produced in Sterlitamak, it is easy to trace their origin from vertical drilling machines, which leads to certain problems during milling.

Unlike the above examples, the OTs1I machine was created without the use of constructive borrowing. technical solutions universal machines. The technical ideas embodied in it were the result of careful selection and study by the specialists of the NITI "Progress" constructive solutions and trends, domestic and world machine tool industry of those years. Therefore, even now, a quarter of a century after the start of its mass production, it is possible to identify and implement structural and technical reserves in the machine tool, allowing it to be modernized and brought to the technical level of today's machine tool industry.

We note the main design features of the machine.

Layout. The machine is made with a cross table. Unlike cantilever machines, such as GF2171, SVM1 (former Voroshilovgrad), this arrangement increases the rigidity and load capacity of the machine, and, for example, unlike machines with spindle movement in two coordinates (FP-7, FP-17 - SAVMA) - reduces the weight of the machine. It should also highlight the ratio of the length and width of the table (1250 x 400 mm), as a result of which there was a place on the table for the rotary device and the tailstock.

Guides of the machine are made in the form of overhead cemented laths of high hardness, with which roller bearings are mated (on a cross table in horizontal planes) or cast-iron surfaces of movable base parts. This combination allows the machine to be used both in light and precise machining, and in heavy machining that requires high rigidity.

Tool changers are made according to the scheme with an intermediate socket, which makes it possible to exclude from the time of changing the tool the time of its selection in the magazine and removal from the magazine, to ensure the possibility of returning the tool to the same magazine socket from which it was removed. Rotary device with a tailstock made it possible to dramatically expand the scope of the machine due to the possibility of processing spiral grooves, inclined surfaces, and other types of processing at various angles. For the time the machine was created, machines with a power coordinate rotary device were rare. Now many machine tool enterprises have options for machines with a rotary device, but prices for rotary devices are very significant, for the dimensions of OTs1I22 from 600.0 thousand rubles, foreign production is much higher.

Tool overhang sensor(0Z): for the time of the creation of the machine, it was its unique difference, which makes it possible to drastically reduce the time and labor intensity of tool preparation and at the same time increase the accuracy of processing.

An advantageous advantage of the machine is also the absence of hydraulic equipment (auxiliary mechanisms are powered by pneumatics), which eliminates oil leaks and improves the condition of the workplace.

Thus, the technical level of the OTs1I machine, laid down during its creation, ensured the possibility of its compliance with modernity for many years.

In the process of serial production, improvements were constantly made to the design of the machine.

An unconditional step forward was the subsequent models of machine tools developed by NITI Progress and which were the development of the OTs1I machine. This is an OTs2I machine designed to work in unmanned production, providing automatic parts change, parts washing, chip removal, when serviced by an automatic vehicle - changing tool magazines, etc. OTs1I32 machine (a range of models has been developed), which, having a technological purpose identical to OTs1I22, thanks to the new design base, it favorably differed in its technical characteristics, had rolling guides around, gearless drives, tool change mechanisms for a standard mandrel. Unfortunately, due to the general economic crisis, the production of machine tools of these models was limited to a few units.

To what extent can OTs1I22 machines be in demand in today's conditions?

Of course, progress in machine tool building, in the creation of new tool materials, the emergence of new CNC systems, the use of drive technology, etc. favorably distinguish machine models mastered by foreign machine tool industry, and, in part, by domestic ones (one of the best representatives of a class similar to OTs1I22 is a machine model V-500 produced by Sterlitamak-M.T.E.). Relatively inexpensive machine tools made in Taiwan, Korea, and other firms are becoming more widespread. Machine models of recent years are distinguished primarily by high dynamics. Spindle speeds reach 8000-12000rpm, speeds fast travel- 20 ... 36 m / min, significantly higher dynamics of auxiliary mechanisms, especially tool change.

Yes, it is not always correct to compare modern high-speed machine tools with the OTs1I22 machine for technological purposes. High-speed machines have an advantage primarily in two cases: when processing light alloys and when using "hard cutting" processes (the latter require the use of high-precision workpieces and high-quality and very expensive cutting tools). When cutting steel, cast iron, hard-to-cut alloys, when removing large allowances on cast and forged workpieces of ordinary accuracy, using domestic cutting tools, high dynamics remains unclaimed. Moreover, the listed traditional cutting processes require high torques on low frequencies spindle rotation, high forces on feed drives. Many businesses that buy relatively cheap Taiwanese, etc. high-speed machine tools, in order to improve machining performance, face the problems of low cutting torques, insufficient rigidity and vibration resistance, as well as non-repairability of machine tools.

Nevertheless, we believe that the OTs1I22 machine, thanks to the advantages mentioned above, incorporated in its constructive base, remains quite competitive. Such a prospect for the machine is created by its modernization.

Izhprest LLC has been working on these machines since approximately 1995. In particular, for 10 years in the period 2003 ... 2012, work was carried out on 103 machines OTs1I22 (21), including 88 units with a major overhaul of the mechanical part. Several variants of machine modernization projects have been worked out, including those using frequency-controlled feed servo drives, or DC electric motors and drives, inductive or photoelectric feedback sensors, etc.

Also, the enterprise has developed, and since 2006 has been serially carrying out a deep modernization of the machine according to the high-speed version - the project OTs1I22S, affecting the main specifications machine.

Applied methods and means of modernization:

  • Spindle assembly.

    Modern rolling bearings (in particular, in this machine used bearings manufactured by f. NSK), thanks to the use of special steels and materials, design features, high manufacturing accuracy, modern types of lubrication can significantly increase the permissible rotational speed without changing the size range of bearings used. At the same time, we had to make certain changes to the design of the spindle assembly, as well as follow the manufacturer's special recommendations regarding the bearing assembly technology.

    The results obtained allow us to conclude that the use of modern high-precision rolling bearings in the modernization of various machine tools in combination with the corresponding motors and drives of the main movement, as a rule, makes it possible to increase the spindle speed without a significant change in the design of the spindle assembly.

  • Drive of the main movement.

    The OTs1I22S project machine uses a Lenze main motion variable frequency drive with a Lenze MDFQA 132-32 (17 kW) engine. This combination made it possible to provide stepless regulation of the spindle speed within the range of 20…5000 rpm (without the use of a gearbox), while providing a high torque on the spindle, which guarantees high cutting performance. So, the value of the maximum (at speeds up to 730 rpm) torque is 225 Nm and, starting from a speed of 375 rpm, exceeds the characteristics of the base machine. For example, an electrospindle with a maximum frequency of 12,000 rpm, manufactured in Sterlitamak, with a power of 30 kW, has a maximum torque of 120 Nm.

  • The main movement gearbox: in these machines it is excluded, the spindle drive is carried out through a poly-V-belt transmission directly from the engine. The tension of the belts is produced by the displacement of the motor.
  • The tool clamping mechanism has been modified to reduce its imbalance by constructive methods, high-quality foreign-made belleville springs have been used.
  • Tooling of the machine.

    Despite the fact that the machine was originally designed for the use of non-standard toolholders, in order to eliminate additional costs for consumer enterprises, the auxiliary tool system of the machine has been retained. However, when operating the machine with high spindle speeds, special attention should be paid to the condition of the mandrels, their balancing, and the quality of fixing the cutting tool in the mandrel. The cutting tool itself must also be balanced, its quality and material must correspond to the cutting speeds used.

  • Tool change.

    The relatively long tool change cycle of the OTs1I22 machine was partially reduced by reducing the time to reach the tool change point when using increased idle speeds. Measurement of the tool overhang by the “0Z” sensor is now performed only by a separate command of the control program and is recommended only for very precise operations or with a certain frequency sufficient to control the integrity or limit wear of the tool. In addition, the machine uses, in order to increase the speed of turning the tool change arm, a double carrier of the Maltese cross (the solution has already been used in the OTS1I22 machines of the last years of production).

  • Feed drives and maximum speeds of movement along coordinates.

    Unlike the basic version of the machine, which limited top speed displacements with a value of 4.8 m/min, we have reached speeds of 10 m/min, for which:

    • complete feed servo drives manufactured by Schneider Electric are used;
    • the gear ratio of the machine gearboxes has been changed;
    • in order to improve safety, a speed limit was introduced when approaching emergency limit switches.
  • Pneumatic equipment.

    In order to improve reliability, the machine uses pneumatic equipment produced by f. Festo.

  • Guard, coolant supply, chip collection.

    In connection with the increase in the spindle speed, there is a problem of ensuring the safety of the machine - protecting the operator from flying chips and coolant, as well as accidental fragments. For this purpose, a fence was designed and manufactured. working area machine tool, as well as the design of the coolant supply unit has been changed - 2 nozzles, adjustable for different tools; coolant supply to one or another nozzle is switched according to the program.

    It should be noted that, in principle, the design of modern machine tools begins with the study of the layout of the working area of ​​the machine, including the study of the fence, chip collection system, coolant supply and collection. Thus, the creation of an effective fence in the process of modernizing the machine, in the absence of the possibility of changing the basic parts and layout of the machine, is a very difficult and often impossible task. As for the OTs1I22 machine, the ability to protect the rear of the machine is limited in it due to the lack of space between the slide in the rear position and the machine stand, the height of the fence is insufficient, limited by the design of the “0Z” sensor, there is no possibility of supplying coolant in a larger volume due to the danger leaks.

  • In addition to the above, as part of the modernization of the machine, traditional works were also carried out:
    • overhaul machine with the restoration of accuracy parameters to the level of requirements of the technical specifications for the machine, including regrinding of guides (in the absence of a cemented layer - replacement), regrinding of the spindle, replacement of ball screws, replacement of roller bearings, bearings, feedback sensors, broken or worn special parts of the machine;
    • finalization of units and mechanisms of the machine in accordance with the changes made to the design of machines of recent years of production, incl. pneumatic equipment, lubrication systems, gearboxes, counterweights, etc.;
    • replacement of the CNC with the installation of the CNC device of the Mayak-600 series and the placement of the machine control panel on a swivel bracket fixed to the machine bed;
    • replacement of the body of the electrical cabinet and electric automation, cabling;
    • debugging of the machine, delivery of quality control department, painting.

The traditional options for performing work on the repair and modernization of machine tools are also preserved.
