Damage to wiring during installation of stretch ceilings. How not to damage the wiring when drilling walls or ceilings Damaged the wiring when installing stretch ceilings

Stretch ceiling today is the most convenient, practical and inexpensive way of finishing, which, in addition to its decorative qualities, also has the same indispensable property, in which the issue with the electrician is easily solved.

Electricity in stretch ceilings is carried out in special corrugated pipes for electrical wiring, which are securely attached to the concrete slab with clips. In the right places come the ends of the cable to the chandelier. As a rule, this is the geometric center of the room. And also the conclusions are divided into point ceiling lights, if such are provided for in the electrical project.

Why do an electrician under a stretch ceiling?

Customers often ask us this question. Electricity does not come to the chandelier, it is necessary to lead a new wire from the switch. How can I do that? The answer is often frustrating, but, in fact, there are not many options here.

The first and easiest way is to bring electricity in the cable channel. But from the point of view of aesthetics, the option is flawed, and it is quite natural that not everyone agrees to this.

The second way to suggest is to try replace the electrical cable with a chandelier. This is possible if in your apartment this cable is laid in a special technological hole in the floor slab and is freely pulled out from there. It is far from always possible to do this, since it often happens that this cable is immured in a slab. And sometimes, especially in Khrushchev houses, it passes along the floor of the upper apartment. Yes Yes! That's how it happens! And you won't do anything about it.

Well, method number three: conduct an electrician along the floor slab and close it with a suspended, slatted or stretch ceiling. But suspended ceiling, if it is made of drywall, it is a heavy construction that still requires additional puttying and finishing. A slatted ceiling is most likely suitable for a bathroom or toilet. For residential premises, it is rarely used.

The simplest option remains - this is a stretch ceiling, which will be made without dirt and dust, in a very short time and will look great. It has a countless variety of materials and colors. And its illumination can be limited only by the degree of violence of your imagination.

Chasing the ceiling is prohibited!

Wait!!! customers say. But how to make a small hollow and hide this notorious cable for a chandelier there? And you don’t need to be smart with either the electrics or the stretch ceiling!

By no means, no. According to SNIP (building codes and regulations), it is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN to ditch floor slabs. We comply with SNIP and will not do such work. Maybe there will be a master craftsman who will go to your every whim, because he cannot live in your house. And the responsibility will not be his, but yours. Indeed, if, God forbid, the stove cracks, you will not find this master in the afternoon with fire. Therefore, it is better not to act at your own peril and risk, but to hide the electrician under a stretch ceiling, which will be a wonderful decoration for your room.

Stretch ceiling wiring. What should be taken into account?

When planning an electrician in a stretch ceiling, it is necessary to take into account a number of nuances so that unforeseen problems do not arise in the future.

Electrical wiring in stretch ceilings, as mentioned above, must be carried out in corrugated channels. This is the requirement of the PUE, SNIP and they must be observed. This is due to fire safety and the need to make it possible for the future to change the wiring after many, many years without removing the canvas.

Do not make connections in the electrical wiring under the stretch ceiling!

The electrics under the stretch ceiling must be solid. The cable that is laid under the canvas must not have connections. Ideally, there should be no junction box. Many electricians will tell you: this is not possible, and it is not necessary.

  • Definitely a must! Any junction, junction box is a potential place for loss of contact in the future. If the situation discussed at the very beginning of the article repeats, that there is no light on the chandelier, it will be necessary to remove the ceiling. There will be no access to the junction box. This must be kept in mind.
  • Besides, it's possible! We do switching of switches without additional junction boxes. With a solid cable, there will be no short circuit. Yes, and the break also does not threaten him.

Electricity and lighting: errors when installing a stretch ceiling.

Now let's talk about lighting.

When the ceiling masters stretch the canvas, make sure that they put the mount under the chandelier. There are cases that they pulled the ceiling, and then they are looking for an electrician to install a chandelier. The master electrician arrives, and then dances with tambourines begin to install the fixture for the chandelier through the tiny hole left by the ceiling.

No, of course, everything can be done. And, unfortunately, we often encounter such cases. The other day we had a call from an electrician in Shchyolkovo, when we just had to redo the base for the mount for the central chandelier, since the ceiling tiles did not calculate with its level and it turned out that the chandelier pressed the canvas very hard. Hack!

But here is a question of possibility and chance. An electrician is forced to do jewelry work, and if he suddenly damages the canvas, then you will be very unhappy with the work of an electrician. But in fact, the root of evil is elsewhere. It is necessary to scold the craftsmen who, it seems, are professionals in construction stretch ceilings, but not far-sighted, and suddenly they forgot to put this little lady under the chandelier mount. This is important to know and understand!

Plan the right electrics for ceiling lights.

And here's another interesting point. If you have planned several spotlights, then pay attention to this. The store will offer you light bulbs for 220v and 12v. 12v bulbs will require the installation of a transformer in the circuit, which will turn the 220v voltage into 12v. This transformer will have to be hidden under the canvas, and it will burn out in a couple of years. There is only one way out: to disassemble the ceiling again. Therefore, the electrics of the stretch ceiling should be focused on light bulbs under 220v. Well, or you need to plan the installation of a transformer in an accessible place. We had a project, we did an electrician in Mytishchi in a new building. We laid the lead to such a transformer in the pantry, which was next to the room where spotlights were supposed to be.

The same problem as with a transformer can also occur with a soft starter. Many advise to put it in order to extend the life of halogen lamps. In this case, your bulbs will outlive the soft starter, which will burn out at some point. But light bulbs are easy to change, and that very little box is gone! And the outcome is the same. The fabric will have to be removed. Well, or stop using this light.

When planning an electrician for stretch ceilings, consider all these features so that good electrician masters do not have to disappoint you. Electricians are not magicians, although sometimes the opposite happens.

The need to drill walls arises quite often. For example, you need to hang a picture, kitchen cabinets, install a new chandelier, or install a stretch ceiling. Often, when drilling a wall with a puncher, home craftsmen and unfortunate electricians manage to damage the electrical wiring. In the best case, the machine in the shield will work and the damaged area will have to be repaired. However, if the automatic safety device does not work, accidental contact with a live power cable can be fatal. In this article, we will tell site readers how not to get into the wiring when drilling walls and ceilings, having considered the most simple ways detection of electrical wires.

Walls

With walls, things are much easier, because. it is possible, based on logic and generally accepted standards, to determine where the wiring goes, so that you can avoid getting into it with a puncher. So, as a rule, cable line runs parallel under the ceiling at a distance of 15 cm from it and goes down to the electrical points at a right angle, as shown in the photo below:

In order not to get into the wiring when drilling, it is enough (this can be done with the naked eye), which will show the exact height of the wires. After that, you need to see where the sockets, switches, electrical panel are located. From all these points, the cable rises, so it is better not to drill the wall above them, otherwise the chance of getting into the wiring will be almost 100%.

However, this method of laying cables is not always found. V panel houses the wiring is laid in the channels (cavities) in the slabs. They, due to design features plates and requirements for its rigidity, run diagonally. You can see an example of their location in the figure below.

If you are unable to locate the electrical line in an apartment or house using the described methods, it is better to use a special detector. There are inexpensive devices for. Their accuracy, of course, is not at the highest level, however, with an error of 10-15 cm, you can find the wires in the wall, which will allow you to avoid getting into them with a drill.

If you just need or need to install a kitchen (meaning hanging cabinets), it is not advisable to buy a detector. In this case, we recommend. A simple homemade device will also show the approximate location of the wiring.

You can also try to use an indicator screwdriver to detect hidden wiring, but not the one with a neon lamp, but the one with batteries and an LED. If you take it by the sting and drive it with its back along the wall, it glows near the line, although this method is not very accurate. We also recommend tapping the wall around the proposed drilling site - this way there is a chance to “tap out” cavities and cable lines.

Ceiling

The desire not to touch the wiring when drilling the ceiling occurs most often during the installation of the chandelier. If the hook for hanging the lamp is not provided, but the wires are brought out for connection, then it is first of all important to know the following:

  1. In prefabricated houses, most often the cables along the ceiling are carried out in voids, therefore, in order not to get into the wiring when drilling the plate, we recommend that you first open the wire outlet a little. This way you can see where they are going and you can retreat to a safe distance. The hole can later be plastered, in addition, the plate from the chandelier will hide all defects.
  2. If the ceiling is made of a monolith, then, as a rule, the electrical wiring to the chandelier starts vertically from the floor above, so you need to step back a little from the wires and drill a hole.
  3. In a private house, an electrician is carried out under plaster, therefore, as in the first case, it is recommended to open the ceiling a little and determine the direction in which the electrical wiring passes.

In order not to get into the wiring when drilling the ceiling, you can also use a special detector, so if you doubt your abilities or for some reason could not find the wire in the wall according to our advice, it is better to call a professional electrician. The master, for a small payment, according to his experience and with the help of a detector, will do everything safely, and this is the main thing.

We hope that now you know how not to get into the wiring when drilling walls and ceilings with a puncher. Do not forget that you need to drill only when the power is off, and after creating the hole, you can turn on the machine and check if it works.

materials

Before proceeding with the finishing of the ceiling surface, it is imperative to bring the electrical wires to the switches and sources of artificial lighting. Hidden ceiling wiring will not only save you money on cable purchases, but is also a more reliable option in terms of security.

Ceiling wiring - preparatory stage

Before you start installing electrical wiring on the ceiling, you need to solve the following tasks:

  • determine the optimal laying method;
  • count the number of components, purchase them;
  • think over the points where the junction boxes will be located;
  • draw up a wiring diagram, while all wires must be located strictly at an angle of 90 °. In the drawing, mark the locations of fixtures and other lighting elements;
  • using a special table, select the brand and section of the cable.

Wiring can be outdoor or hidden.

The main types of outdoor wiring include:

  • installation of the cable on fireproof surfaces without the use of protective pipes (open);
  • the cable is removed into special corrugated sleeves;
  • use a metal corrugation;
  • use steel or electrical pipes;
  • laying is carried out in cable channels;
  • wires are laid on special brackets and ceramic insulators.

Each type is selected depending on the type of ceiling base and decorative finishes.

Ceiling wiring: basic installation rules

If you do not have knowledge and experience in the field of electrical wiring, do not take risks, but entrust the work to specialists. If you are confident in your abilities, and decide to cope with the task on your own, pay attention to the following recommendations, they will help you avoid mistakes when wiring:

  • all electrical wiring must be laid in protective corrugations. If this requirement is not observed, a fire may occur if a short circuit suddenly occurs;
  • do not connect all appliances in the apartment to one residual current device. Even if the load does not exceed the design standards, it will still be inconvenient during further operation. In the event of a short circuit in at least one consumer, all devices will turn off simultaneously;
  • switches must be connected to the phase conductor. If you ignore this requirement, even a banal light bulb change can result in an electric shock;
  • wires should not touch each other, as well as intersect with each other;
  • must be carried out prior to installation. right choice materials and wire cross-sections. Choose not the section that is cheaper in cost, but the safest option;
  • for bathrooms, kitchens and other rooms with high humidity special electrical boxes must be used;
  • lay the wires in such a way that at any time it is possible to carry out repairs to the wiring.

Ceiling wiring - methods for different types of surfaces

When choosing materials for work, and when laying wiring, be guided by the base surface of the ceiling, namely, the material that forms its basis:

  • tree;
  • metal;
  • reinforced concrete.

Wooden ceiling base

To secure the cable to wooden ceiling, you need to stretch the wires through steel pipes. Choose a diameter of the pipe so that the wiring fits into it.

Distribution boxes in this case, they must also be made from fire-resistant materials. The best way– metal boxes and pipes. WITH inside a layer of insulator is laid on them, which will prevent the wires from touching the walls of the box.

You need to act as follows:

  • from a paper drawing, transfer the drawing to the surface, carefully mark the cable installation lines;
  • install junction boxes;
  • cut the pipes to the desired length, fix them to the ceiling base;
  • connect the individual parts of the pipes to each other by welding;
  • using a broach, lay the wires through the pipes;
  • take them out to the junction box, leave the ends about 20 cm each;
  • connect all the cores, wrap the joints with electrical tape and ground;
  • Now you can check if it works.

Metal is an electrical conductor, therefore, for wiring to such an overlap, it is necessary to lay the wires inside special plastic pipes. In this case, the boxes must also be made of plastic. If it is not possible to apply plastic products, then it is allowed to lay the cable in pipes or ducts made of steel.

Wiring is carried out in the same way with cable laying on a wooden ceiling.

Reinforced concrete slabs, which form the basis of the base surface of the ceiling, are already produced with a ready-made gasket for boxes and pipes. In old houses, the cable is mounted on panels through the channels of the slab, which pass along its surface and form voids in the slabs, and then the holes are plastered with a thick layer of putty. But in this case, from gating, the channels are often clogged with concrete residues. If you have a similar situation, the wires must be mounted directly to the surface of the floor slab. For insulation, it is best to hide the cable in a corrugated protective tube made of non-combustible material.

Open laying of wires on a reinforced concrete ceiling is done according to one of the following options:

  • cables are fixed to the ceiling with brackets;
  • the wires are placed in a protective corrugated pipe, which is fixed to the ceiling with screws in plastic dowels;
  • the cable is led into metal or steel pipes, and fasten them to the ceiling with clamps or brackets;
  • to protect the wiring, electrical pipes are used, which are mounted to the ceiling surface on clips.

During concealed installation, the wire is laid along the voids along the plates. Transverse installation of the cable is prohibited, as it may violate the integrity of the overlap.

The algorithm of actions will be as follows:

  • retreat from the wall by 50-70 mm, put the first mark;
  • make a recess 2 cm along the wall and 10 cm along the plate;
  • the same actions are carried out at the location of the chandelier or lamp;
  • a broach with a cable is brought into the channel, the wires are brought out from the other end of the pipe;
  • after the cable is brought out, measure 40 cm, cut off the excess;
  • cable cores are connected in a junction box, the joints are soldered, insulated;
  • check the quality and integrity of the wiring.

false ceilings

Cable laying under different types false ceilings has its own characteristics.

On a note! If you chose closed way installation of electrical wiring under stretch ceilings, drywall constructions or other hanging systems, all boxes must be fastened so that they can be accessed at any time.

The main feature of plasterboard ceilings is the restriction of access to the base ceiling base. Therefore, before fixing the cable to the ceiling, it is necessary to provide service points for the entire system. Choose the installation method taking into account the type of base floor: metal, wood or reinforced concrete.

The plasterboard suspended ceiling hides the wires securely so wiring can be done open way. The main thing is to take out all the boxes outside the structure.

This ceiling belongs to the type of hemmed structures, so the wiring will be carried out according to the type of cable laying for gypsum boards. At the same time, junction boxes are also taken out of the ceiling system.

Since slatted ceilings are often used to finish bathrooms, the following conditions must be observed:

  • if the base base is made of reinforced concrete, the cable must be laid in plastic or corrugated pipes;
  • if the ceiling is made of wood, only metal or steel boxes and pipes are used.

Cassette ceilings have an advantage that distinguishes them from other types decorative ceilings: at any time you can get unhindered access to the draft ceiling surface. Therefore, there is no need to take the boxes out of the structure, and the wiring can be completely hidden under the decorative trim.

If the wiring on the ceiling is done in an open way, then the pipes are fixed to the base with clamps or brackets.

In cases where the installation of wiring on the ceiling is carried out by a closed method, it is necessary:

  • use metal or corrugated pipes for metal or reinforced concrete bases;
  • steel pipes, if the floor is made of wood.

Electrical wiring under stretch ceilings is carried out by analogy with a plasterboard suspension system. The main requirement for the arrangement is to ensure sufficient distance between the pipe with the cable and stretch fabric. Otherwise, a corrugated surface will remain visible under the coating.

Before the wiring under the stretch ceiling is carried out, it is necessary to carefully consider the options for lighting the structure, and to bring the wires to the intended locations of the devices.

Such ceilings are represented by special modules filled with polyurethane foam. They have plates that conduct electricity. In this case, up to five modules can be connected to one connector. The laying of wires is carried out, focusing on the material from which the main floor is made, the boxes must be taken out of the ceiling.

The panels look spectacular at night, when the rest of the lighting in the room is turned off.

Thus, when choosing a wiring option, you need to take into account the material from which the ceiling is made, the method of decorating the ceiling, and follow the entire technology of conducting installation work from start to finish. Only in this case the wiring will be safe and durable.

a corresponding reduction in the price for the work performed (service rendered);

reimbursement of expenses incurred by him to eliminate the shortcomings of the work performed (service rendered) on his own or by third parties;

refusal to execute the contract on the performance of work (rendering of services) and compensation for losses.

Hello everyone! I have no complaints about stretch ceilings, so I give them five stars. And today I want to tell you a story that left me with an unpleasant aftertaste in my soul.

For the first time to the company that installs stretch ceilings Status Design I applied in 2011 and ordered a satin ceiling in the room from them. Everything suited me, and having moved to new apartment, I again turned to this company to make the ceiling in the kitchen. For the new built-in kitchen, electricians brought me separate "machines" for hob and an oven, as well as several additional sockets were made. I had a plan drawn where the wires run in the walls, up to centimeters. Accordingly, the plan was shown to the ceiling installers to make it easier for them to work.

After the installation and the departure of the installers, I realized that there was no electricity in the apartment. At first I thought that they forgot to turn on the "machine" in the stairwell and went out to the entrance to do it myself, but all the "machines" were turned on. Of course, the thought flashed through my mind that they had drilled a wire in the wall, but I just didn’t want to believe it! First, it was New Year's Eve, I had a lot of friends, and I was without electricity. How to cook, how to live in general?! And secondly, I didn’t have a kitchen for a long time, so I had to buy a slow cooker in order to somehow eat, and most importantly, feed my family. And now there is no electricity, and I couldn’t think of how to cook food without a slow cooker)))

I started calling the manager who came to measure my ceilings. So, on the phone, I explained that there was no electricity and it is quite possible that this is directly related to the installation of the ceiling. The manager immediately chose the tactics of the attacker, said that these were just installers, not electricians, and tried to divert the conversation in a different direction, at the end he even stated that even if the installers really broke through the wire, they didn’t do it on purpose! So after all, I myself understand that it wasn’t on purpose, and I didn’t even blame them for anything, well, everything happens, an accident, but this does not mean that you don’t need to fix everything!

Then we called back several times with the manager, but the conversation was the same, they made it clear to me that they had done their job, the ceiling was hanging in place - sit and admire! By the way, I want to add again, it was December 29th. I already imagined a terrible picture of how I call electricians, they remove my ceiling and just throw it in the trash, because I can’t hang it back, and no one from Status Design is going to come to me, since a ten-year warranty applies only on the ceiling itself, and this has nothing to do with electricity.

To be honest, such anguish seized me that I called the manager for the last time and just burst into tears into the phone. It was only then that he relented, called back in a few minutes and said that the installers would come tomorrow and look at the ceiling. The next day, the installers arrived with their electrician, checked the wiring plan again, and quickly figured out where the wire had been punched. They did everything in 10 minutes, I had to bend a piece of the ceiling a little, but in the end they all led to original view! It’s good that I didn’t have time to paste the wallpaper, otherwise they would have been damaged.

Here is my sad story. Then one knowledgeable person told me that it is still unknown how exactly they made the wiring, if they just connected and wrapped the wires, then over time they can catch fire. And if you made some kind of spikes, such small nozzles for connecting wires, then everything will be ok. I don't know anything about electrical, but I hope everything will be fine.

The ceiling itself is two-tone, brown and white. I ordered a glossy one, because I already had a satin one and I wanted something new. I decided not to hang the chandelier, but made LED lamps)

I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if I'm the only one who's "happy"
