Drilling in concrete. Ways to drill a concrete wall with a drill

Concrete walls are the basis of many high- and low-rise buildings. Every tenant sooner or later has to hang something or attach it to the wall. A concrete drill comes in handy for fixing sconces, lamps, paintings, equipment, appliances, mirrors, etc. When using a conventional drill, it overheats, smoke appears, and after a few holes you have to change the nozzle. Proper drilling will help you complete the procedure quickly, and the tool will last for many cycles of use.

Choosing a tool and working with it

When choosing a method, it is worth choosing the right tool. A quality drill with a nozzle will drill through the wall quickly and accurately. Not every tool is equally well suited for this purpose. A low-quality concrete drill will take a long time, or may not do the job at all.

A high-quality drill with a nozzle will drill through the wall quickly and accurately

When choosing a tool, pay attention to:

  • the presence of a speed controller. It is important to be able to adjust the number of revolutions for accurate drilling. Working exclusively at maximum speed will lead to reaming a large hole and damaging the surface;
  • the ability to set the shock mode of the drill. Useful for punching through thicker layers;
  • adjustment of the depth of installation of the drill;
  • Auxiliary handle included. A professional and powerful drill belongs to heavy power tools, it is better to have a built-in handle for working with two hands;
  • satisfactory power indicators, so that it is convenient to drill concrete, brick and other materials, because a drill is a universal tool.

The choice of tools and work with a drill are important procedures, otherwise the wear of materials increases and the destruction of the wall occurs. After selection the best option drilling machine, it is important to decide which drill to drill a concrete wall with. All stores have nozzles with pobedit tips for stone, they are optimally suited for concrete.

Before starting work, it is better to get used to using the selected tool. It should be comfortable for both one-handed and two-handed use. One hand is located on the handle, and the second - on a removable handle or on the side of the body.

Choosing a tool and working with a drill are important procedures

It is important to always hold the drill exactly at right angles to the surface to prevent distortion and coating failure.

Any device electric type Vulnerable to temperature changes, it is recommended to wait until it warms up or cools down to room temperature before turning it on. With sudden changes, there is a risk of condensation. If drilling is temporarily not necessary, it is best to unplug the power tool.

When you need to drill a hole, you should first make sure that there is no wiring, built-in pipes or cables in the chosen place. An easy way to detect such elements is to use a metal detector. There is almost always reinforcement in the wall, it is better to install the metal detector on non-ferrous metals (search for wiring), and then on steel. If you ignore the condition, there is a risk of stumbling upon the rebar, the victorious drill will be hopelessly destroyed.

Initially, a dot is marked on the wall. To prevent the tool from slipping, make a recess with any durable metal object or a drill at low speeds. After careful preparation, the concrete drill easily enters the wall. It is worth considering that a cladding is applied on top of the cement - it is softer than the wall itself, which means that initially the drill goes easily, then it rests on a durable material.

Surface preparation for work

The type of material and holes determines which drill to drill a concrete wall with. Right choice will increase the quality, accuracy of the result and the integrity of the nozzle. In the assortment of shops there are special drills for various types materials: wood, concrete, metal. Features of concrete drills are reduced to a triangular tip and the application of a carbide composition to the tip. A conventional drill with a Pobedite drill manages to grind concrete without tearing the material.

If at the stage of drilling concrete with a drill the process is stalled, holes are drilled with a hammer drill or the shock mode is turned on. The only drawback of the perforator is large holes, with a diameter of 13 mm or more. Dense areas are easily overcome with a mechanical punch with a hammer. The area should be punched until the material softens. Then continue drilling the hole.

To drill several holes in concrete, special soldering on the nozzle is used:

  • victorious tip;
  • universal drills, but they should be cooled regularly;
  • diamond drill bits for concrete are a relatively expensive material, but durable.

While drilling, make sure that there is no uncharacteristic sound of touching the metal. In case of hit in the wall on the armature, it is important to complete the procedure while the nozzle is still sharp.

Choosing a drill for a drill

Correctly drilling concrete with reinforcement can be done in 3 stages:

  • Reach the layer with metal with a victorious tip.
  • Install a drill for metal - the reinforcement is soft and should be easily drilled out.
  • Continue working with the concrete drill.

A little about the device of the drill and the installation of the drill

Standard drill includes:

  • network cable;
  • power button;
  • capacitor wires;
  • reverse system;
  • brushes with springs;
  • anchor;
  • stator;
  • gearbox with cartridge;
  • bearings;
  • keys;
  • screws.

Impact drill device

At correct installation drill increases the quality and safety of work. If the bit is loosely tightened, there is a risk of the drill bit flying out and causing injury. It is recommended to immerse the nozzle until it stops and clamp it with a special key.

Under no circumstances should you try to increase the length of the rod by partially inserting it into the chuck.

Before starting work, check for contamination on the drill. To clean the drills, it is better to use a rag. It is easiest to drill through concrete in one go by pressing firmly on the handle.

Power selection for drills

When drilling concrete, it is best to use a device with a power of 600 W and 2500 rpm. To accurately select the rotation speed, you should read the recommendations of the drill manufacturer. For drilling concrete, a crumbling method is used, which does not require high speeds.

Drill errors

Workers' comments helped establish actions that should be undone during the drilling process:

  • do not hold on to the rotating chuck during operation. There is a case or handle for secure holding;
  • if you work with gloves, you should use tight-fitting varieties. The protruding ends of the gloves can twist during rotation;
  • press the drill with all your might - do not the best solution, as the builder loses balance and may fall. Another problem with excessive force is drill breakage;
  • it is important to avoid finding human hands with reverse side concrete, otherwise the drill will go through the wall and cause serious injury.
  • if the purpose of drilling is to install a plastic dowel, a slightly larger diameter drill is installed. Dust after drilling may prevent the dowel from fully inserting;
  • at the beginning of the procedure, the power tool is set at low speed, otherwise it is difficult to control the drill. After diving deep into the wall, increase the speed, or turn on the shock mode;
  • during the drilling process, the drill should be moistened with cold water to protect against overheating;
  • if the drills are held unreliably in the chuck or become loose during operation, it is changed to a new one;
  • it is recommended to wear special goggles that will protect against debris in the eyes.

We will offer information on related topics useful in construction:

  • dowels are not the only way to fix machinery and equipment to walls. help you get the job done faster.
  • when working with foam blocks and aerated concrete, screws and dowels cannot be used due to the low strength of the material. Anchor for aerated concrete - the most effective method fastenings;
  • most walls are based on reinforcement - it increases the durability of the structure, but requires a lot of effort in the process of creating a frame. There are several ways how, but manual methods are difficult to perform. will simplify the performance of work, which is especially important in monolithic construction;
  • to improve the decorative qualities, impurities are added to the solution, there are even mixtures that can make;
  • at the construction stage, it is worth considering the feasibility of cast structures. Various blocks will speed up the process of work. help to make the material yourself;
  • if brick is chosen as the main material of the house, it is worth finding out what mortar is needed for laying bricks.

Subject to all the rules for working with a drill and a drill, following the manufacturer's instructions and good preparation for drilling, you will be able to make a hole in a concrete wall without much difficulty.

small repair work periodically become a necessity in every home. Drilling was no exception. For its correct implementation, tools, experience and a little time are needed, otherwise - an undesirable cost of money. To avoid the latter, we have prepared an article for you on the topic: “How and with what to drill a concrete wall?”. Let's take a look at all the important points.

How to drill through a concrete wall

New or old tool

Remember, if the wife asks: “how to drill a hole in the wall to install an outlet there?”, Then it's time to resort to using a puncher!

Additional Information

To prepare the wall for drilling a large diameter hole, make a small notch in the center of the mark with a thin drill. This will allow you to find a convenient stop with the tool in the future so that it does not slip off. You need to press the drill moderately, without making significant efforts, otherwise there is a risk of breaking the drill.

Periodically blow dust out of the hole, this will increase the reliability of the installed fasteners. For this, a rubber bulb or a can of compressed air is suitable. Mouth blowing is not recommended, as dust will get on your face and eyes (in last resort use safety goggles).

We hope our information resource has helped you, and the question of how to drill concrete does not bother you anymore. Good luck!

Those who live in houses with concrete partitions are well aware of the situation when it is necessary to hang an object on the wall. At such a moment, a quite reasonable question arises: how to drill concrete? Every home master who has ever encountered this problem has probably solved it for himself. But how much effort did it cost? First, some undertake to test the endurance of a drill, coupled with on their own. And having not received the proper result, they leave the intention to make a hole in the concrete until the next time. As a result, the tool has to be repaired, and the shelves continue to gather dust in their corner. However, there are ways, you just need to find out for yourself and use them correctly in an emergency.

Concrete structures are very durable and drilling is difficult. Often you have to rest with drills on rubble, which is integral part concrete.

Making holes in concrete is necessary when:

  • arrangement of furniture;
  • facing works;
  • additional installation of electrical wiring;
  • hanging the air conditioner;
  • installation of plumbing fixtures.

How to drill concrete? It is possible to solve the problem of drilling concrete in 2 ways:

  • a percussion drill or a hammer drill with a special drill, called a win;
  • diamond drilling.

It is important to note that it is not possible to make a hole in a concrete partition with standard drills. Therefore, for work, drills with brazed plates, which are a high-strength pobedit alloy, should be prepared. They work great on brick and concrete. They are not used only to work with soft materials, because the one who defeats them will not cut, but only crumble.

What is better to use at home?

At home, when you need to make 2-3 holes on the concrete surface, a simple drill without the “blow” mode is quite suitable. Why, as the drill is immersed into the wall material, the concrete is knocked out with a strong metal pin (punch), corresponding in size to the diameter of the recess.

In particular, a punch is used when the tool begins to "stop" in the wall. Then the steel pin is installed in the recess and strikes on it with a hammer or a sledgehammer, trying to crush too dense places and deepen the hole further. At the same time, the rod is turned a little. After that, a conventional drill is again put into the process.

The manipulations described above are repeated over and over again until the required depth is reached. This method does not differ in speed, although it is quite suitable for making a couple of holes.

Another way is in concrete using universal diamond-coated drills. Their work is marked by high efficiency on metal, concrete and gravel. They are attached only to a standard electric drill and other tools without a vibration function.

Extreme care must be taken when working with a drill, otherwise it will instantly fail. The advice from professionals here will be as follows: to prevent overheating of the drill, it must be periodically moistened with cold water.

What to do when the volume of work is large?

To drill a large number of holes, you will need a puncher or a drill with a “hit” mode, as well as drills with wins at the end.

The impact drill combines a rotational movement with a reciprocating movement, which allows it to be easily handled with lightweight concrete. For drilling load-bearing partitions made of concrete, a perforator will be the best assistant, since its main purpose is to punch through exclusively concrete surfaces.

There are differences between a drill and a hammer drill:

  • the first drill holes of small diameter (no more than 12 mm);
  • a puncher drills larger recesses.

Drilling of reinforcement caught in the thickness of a concrete wall is performed with drills for metal.

Holes in concrete are necessary for conducting, installing communications. The works are distinguished by an abundance of dust, noise, high labor costs, and require high-quality power tools. To drill a hole in this material, it should be taken into account that each hole in the power frame of the building reduces its strength, is fraught with damage to those located inside engineering systems(mainly electrical wiring, ventilation ducts), traumatic.

Through holes with low tool quality cause shedding of adjacent sections of the walls at the exit of the drill / crown from their reverse side. Additional finishing is required, the terms of work increase.

Safety precautions when making holes in concrete

The power frame of a building made of reinforced concrete is a durable heterogeneous material. Inside it is metal fittings, gravel or crushed stone of various fractions. Therefore, to drill a hole without observing TB means exposing yourself and surrounding colleagues to the risk of injury. Experts recommend compliance with the following requirements when drilling/drilling reinforced concrete structures:

  • use of protective equipment - overalls in combination with goggles / mask, petal respirator, helmet;
  • installation of fences: during through drilling, when the worker does not see the opposite side of the wall, there is a risk of pieces collapsing on passers-by or his colleagues;
  • the use of reliable scaffolding: without them, work at a height of more than one and a half meters is prohibited, since the stability of the operator is not ensured; when using stepladders, it is necessary to strengthen them with stops.

To drill a hole in concrete, it is necessary to change the speed of the drill, puncher, special diamond machine smoothly, use only a two-handed tool. The presence of plaster dramatically increases the risk of destruction of internal communications. Therefore, before drilling a hole in the supporting structure of a building, it is necessary to make sure that they are not present.

Drilling with a perforator in shock mode is allowed only when used as a working body of a drill, drill. If the bit is immersed in concrete, rotation without impact is applied. The tool is able to drill a hole, qualitatively cut the internal reinforcement, stones.

Unlike a conventional drill, which destroys crushed stone inclusions due to impact, it is not able to drill through reinforcement. To drill a monolithic wall, you need to study the location of the seams. It is in them that the internal wiring of the power cable, gas, sewer pipes are often hidden.

Do-it-yourself technologies for making holes in concrete

In the process of construction, finishing of buildings, there is a need to make blind or through holes of different diameters. Blind holes are created for fasteners, their diameter is limited to 2-16 mm. In this case, an important factor is compliance with the declared diameter. Otherwise, in broken holes, plastic dowels for self-tapping screws and nails will loosen over time, reducing the strength of fixing wall cabinets, curtains, pipelines, decor elements.

To drill blind holes of large diameter or through penetration of reinforced concrete walls, crowns are used to enter communications. They are a cylinder, one side of which is attached with a shank to a drill chuck, a puncher, the other has victorious or diamond crowns welded to it. In the middle part of the structure, a pobedit drill is installed to give direction.

Drilling with a drill or a drill leads to the destruction of the entire volume of concrete at the point of contact of the tool with the structural material. If there is a reinforcement inside the reinforced concrete structure, it is impossible to pass through it with a drill, the hole is transferred to the side.

Drilling holes in concrete with a crown differs from the previous method:

  • concrete is destroyed only along the perimeter of the hole;
  • a concrete cylinder remains inside the crown.

Therefore, after reaching the required depth of the blind hole, the inner concrete cylinder remains connected to the wall by the rear end. To remove it from the hole, destructive methods are used: a chisel with a hammer or a perforator. Concrete cylinders during through drilling are removed from tool light mallet blows to the body

Drilling holes in concrete is carried out with the following tools:

  • spiral impact drill - more often used for blind holes, the diameter of the carbide inserts of the tip is always larger than the spiral body of the tool, the shank is round, not intended for working in concrete with a hammer drill with SDS cartridges;
  • spiral drill - instead of a pobedit, a zirconium or tungsten tip (sputtering) is used, a shank with grooves is suitable only for SDS cartridges (Max, + modifications), dustless, low-noise drilling is provided;
  • The diamond core bit is a large-diameter tool exclusively for high-speed rotary drilling.

The marking of the percussion twist drill indicates the caliber, not the diameter. This is the distance between the protruding edges of the solder / inserts. Drilling holes with this tool is performed in the following modes:

  • 800-1200 turns for diameters within 4 mm;
  • 300-500 turns for diameters 5-13 mm.

Even the presence of a red marking on the tip of this tool does not guarantee that the tip material corresponds to the metal declared by the manufacturer. Cheap substandard at the first use develops into an incomprehensible configuration, becomes unsuitable for work.

Zirconium, tungsten drills are suitable for the following operating modes:

  • 60-100 turns with a diameter of 42-76 mm;
  • 150-400 turns for diameters 4-60 mm.

The length of the drill can reach 1 m, a small amount of dust when working with this tool allows you not to take the furniture out of the room. Destructible concrete "flows" from the hole in a trickle along spiral channels, is collected on a bedding film, paper.

Professionals make blind holes for large diameter sockets in a few seconds. Home master, who does not have regular practice of working with such a tool, most often risks damaging the crown at the slightest misalignment. Operating modes when using crowns are 2,000-3,000 revolutions for any diameter. The advantage of the crown is the high-quality cutting of reinforcement of any diameter, granite, basalt crushed stone inside concrete at high cutting speeds.

  • segmented tubular drill - difficult to operate, used by specialists in areas with a high probability of the presence of thick reinforcement;
  • crown drill with a centralizer - a carbide modification, inside of which a drill is located in the center, which facilitates setting the direction, reducing sensitivity to pressure, distortions of the working body; these options are not suitable for cutting rebar.

The latest modifications of the crowns are operated at 600-1200 revolutions; upon contact with the reinforcement, the teeth crumble instantly. Therefore, before drilling, the walls are carefully examined with a special tool for the presence of an armored belt.

Concrete structures, walls and ceilings are not uncommon in our houses and apartments. In multi-storey construction, they are generally used with particular frequency, since houses with concrete walls are the most reliable. The reliability of concrete is determined by the good strength of such a material, which is achieved by using the right components. concrete mix and quality work done on its construction.

And here we are proud of our strong walls. But usually it becomes necessary to drill a hole in this very wall. And this may be needed quite often, for example:

  • when finishing walls and ceilings;
  • during the installation of air conditioners;
  • when installing plumbing;
  • when embedding furniture;
  • when working with electrical wiring, its installation;
  • the need for holes for mounting a picture or other interior items.

As you can see, there are many reasons to drill a wall. The main thing is not only to do the job well, but also to make life easier for yourself using the right good tool. Which one can I choose to drill concrete?

It would seem that there is such a thing here: just take yourself a regular drill and drill. But no, in fact, in the process of performing this task, many difficulties can arise. Firstly, concrete walls are very strong and hard to take, and secondly, their structure is heterogeneous, and you can easily run the risk of falling on gravel or a piece of reinforcement. You can get stuck with an ordinary concrete wall for a long time and never drill anything in the end.

How to drill a hole?

The answer to this question will not be too difficult. The fact is that drilling a wall of concrete, as mentioned above, is an extremely difficult process. To solve this issue, it is worth using one of two types of tools: either a puncher or a drill.

Both will be good in certain conditions. I'll explain why. It is best, of course, to use a hammer drill: it is intended specifically for concrete walls and it is common practice to use it. After all, the puncher easily breaks through both stone and concrete surfaces. Another of its advantages is the ability to drill holes of large diameter, which a drill cannot do.

But, if you have a foam concrete wall in front of you, or if you need to drill a few small holes, a drill is quite suitable. In this case, the puncher can split the surface of the wall, which is not very successful. But, as already mentioned, on big holes do not count, only with a diameter of no more than 12-15 cm. In addition, drilling a concrete wall has its own nuances, which we will discuss below.

How to drill a concrete wall with a conventional drill?

Let's talk a little about drilling conventional drill. So, let's start with the fact that the usual one is unlikely to fit here. Those. theoretically it is, of course, possible. But in practice it is extremely difficult. In this case, it is imperative to use a special pobedit drill bit for working on concrete with a tip coated with a hard alloy compound.

The best way is to use a special impact drill. How is it different from the usual one? The fact that in such a drill the movements of the drill are carried out due to special ratchets with teeth interacting with each other. Such a drill is not difficult to use to carry out high-quality work. To do this, simply transfer the drill from the normal mode, rotational, to the shock rotation mode.

But no matter what type of drill you use, how relevant is the use of specialized nozzles. Nozzles (crowns) are sold in two configurations: for impact or non-impact drilling.

The classification of nozzles is as follows:

Crowns gear for drilling with impact function. A concrete wall can be drilled with these crowns with a cutting edge made of separately soldered teeth made of hard alloys. For keyless chucks, drills are available for such drills with SDS tails. Their strength is so high that it is possible to cut the metal, only the impact mode contributes to their destruction, creating unacceptable loads. That is why such drills are used to drill a hole between the reinforcement of reinforced concrete slabs or brick walls.

Diamond core bit for unstressed drilling. These are more modern nozzles that simplify the task several times better than usual ones. Abrasive edges with cutouts on them are created by diamond spraying or corundum sand spraying. As you know, diamond is distinguished by its unprecedented strength. That is why it easily copes with the reinforcement of a concrete wall. Such a nozzle can make a hole at least 1.5 meters deep and more than half a meter in diameter. This type of nozzle is already used by professionals, but nozzles with a diameter of up to 100 mm may well be used in domestic conditions.

KS standard crowns. Crowns with diamond crystals embedded on the cutting edge. Can be used for slabs rocky soils, monolithic concrete structures made of high-strength grades. It can easily replace carbide serrated bits.

Based on your conditions, you can safely choose the necessary drill for the drill and drill a hole. But there are also a number of recommendations for working with a conventional drill that is not equipped with an impact function.

To do this, you start drilling the wall, but are periodically interrupted. V concrete surface you need to drive a pointed drill with your hands and destroy the concrete with metal punches. We take our drill or a chisel, other metal devices of the appropriate and necessary diameter for us and hit them with a hammer / sledgehammer. Rotate the punch periodically. Then take the drill again.

Please note that when drilling a hole in a concrete wall with a conventional drill, you risk breaking the tool. Be sure to give a low-power drill a rest. Drills also tend to heat up, so you need to cool them with water. At the same time, take a break every 10-15 minutes of work, leaving the same amount of time for the tool to take a break.
