From a technical point of view, a gas convector is a fairly simple device. Accordingly, its installation may seem a simple matter. However, there are a number of rules and nuances, the neglect of which can lead to incorrect operation of the device or even to an accident. Consider the basic rules for installing a gas convector

Installation of a gas convector is regulated by the following documents: DBN V.2.5-20-2001 "Gas supply"; DNAOP 0.00-1.20-98 "Rules for the safety of gas supply systems in Ukraine"; NAPB A. 01.001-2004 "Rules of fire safety in Ukraine".

Mounting the gas convector on the wall

The installation of the convector should be carried out in the place of the greatest heat loss in the room, ideally under the window. But here one important nuance arises: there should not be flammable objects and structures near the device. It is strictly forbidden to hang it with curtains, curtains, etc., since the body of the device heats up significantly during operation.

Included with the convector, some manufacturers include wiring diagram(template), which shows the places for fixing the device to the wall and the exit point coaxial chimney. When choosing a mounting location, it is important to ensure that the distance along the outer wall between the coaxial chimney and the ground level is at least 0.5 m, and from the nearest window - at least 0.25 m. It is also necessary to take into account the possibility of snow drift, which can block the outlet combustion products. Indoors, the device must be installed in such a way that the distance between the lowest part of the convector (usually the rear wall) and the floor is at least 0.10 m; for the best quality convection, this distance should be 0.20-0.25 m. The distance between the device and the side wall should be at least 0.18 m. 10 m (Fig. 1).

Installation of a coaxial chimney is carried out in a pre-punched (drilled) hole in the wall. Here problems of a purely technical nature may arise, because the removal of combustion products and the intake of combustion air in gas convectors occur naturally, and therefore the outer diameter of the chimney is large enough. Basically, the diameter of the hole in the wall, depending on the requirements of the manufacturer, should be 0.16-0.20 m. daunting task if the wall is made of durable material.

The length of the coaxial chimney in most models is a maximum of 0.59 m, i.e. the thickness of the wall on which the device is installed should not exceed this value. The minimum wall thickness may be less than 0.20 m, but the manufacturer does not guarantee normal the operation of the convector and the achievement of the parameters specified in the technical data sheet, due to the large heat losses of the building. The chimney must be mounted in such a way that the air intake pipe is located flush with the plane outer wall and protruded 0.035 m into the room. In addition, in order to avoid moisture entering the apparatus, the slope of the coaxial chimney by 2-3 degrees should be taken into account. Outside, a protective cap is attached to the chimney, which, firstly, prevents the ingress of foreign objects, secondly, it serves as protection against wind blowing and knocking down the burner flame.

Gas convector installation errors

  • a coaxial chimney protrudes from the wall (fig. 2). This installation option leads to frequent shutdown of the device due to the increased likelihood of wind blowing. V winter period in severe frosts, the combustion products will be strongly cooled, which will lead to the formation and subsequent freezing of condensate inside the chimney;
  • the coaxial chimney is not installed tightly. The consequences may be frequent malfunctions of the device;
  • incorrect slope of the chimney. In addition to incorrect operation of the device, this leads to moisture ingress and, as a result, to corrosion and destruction of the heat exchanger;
  • narrowing the diameter of the gas supply. For stable operation of the convector, gas must be connected by a pipe, the diameter of which is indicated in the passport. Reducing this size can lead to the loss of the pilot burner flame, non-ignition of the main burner, spontaneous shutdown of the convector, and a decrease in power.

It is important that the gas convector be mounted on a non-combustible surface in accordance with DBN standards (insulation with roofing steel over asbestos sheet at least 3 mm thick, plaster, etc.) at a distance of at least 30 mm from the wall. The insulation must protrude beyond the dimensions of the enclosure. Violation of these standards may lead to damage to the material of the walls or
even to the fire.

It is forbidden to install the convector at a distance of less than 4 meters from open sources of fire, including gas stove. The hose suitable for the convector must have a dielectric insert, this will prevent a fire in the event of a short circuit in the wiring in a wooden house.

An important factor is the grounding of sockets located near the gas stove and convectors, although in a wooden house they must be grounded a priori.

There are three types of supply hoses that are allowed to a gas stove in a wooden house, namely:

  • Rubber fabric - its plus is that it does not conduct electric current, but it is more susceptible to mechanical damage compared to analogues;
  • Metal sleeve - when using it, a dielectric insert is necessarily inserted from the gas stove to the main, and otherwise it has the best performance among analogues. In addition, it is recommended by the latest approved standards. Its only disadvantage is the price, it bites;
  • Rubber with a metal braid - it is more able to withstand severe shocks, and also, thanks to the rubber core, does not conduct current.

When buying a hose, pay attention to the colors, on its sheath there are characteristic yellow colors used only for marking gas equipment.

When buying a metal hose, you should pay attention to its coating, some manufacturers oriented to other markets, with other standards, use yellow insulation, which does not fulfill its main functions. Always ask for supporting documents when purchasing, and keep them in a safe place.

The main advantages of gas convectors for wooden houses

All the complex nuances that needed to be clarified before choosing this equipment dismantled, it remains to list advantages of gas convectors for wooden houses:

  • Profitability - if a wooden house is assembled in accordance with the rules and does not have shrinkage crevices, then a very small amount of gas will be required to heat it;

The process of installing a gas convector in a wooden house

There is nothing easier than fixing the converter to wooden wall, for this you will need:

  • self-tapping screws;
  • Crosshead screwdriver;
  • Mounts (comes with the converter);
  • Building level;
  • Pencil.

First you need to check how far apart the loops are, for which the gas convector is hung. Most often, they are wide enough, which allows you to move it to the left and right already on the mounts, at a distance of about 5 cm.

Measure the distance between the centers of the seats, for the upper and lower loops it will be the same. Transfer these dimensions to the wall, observing the height you need from the floor, most often it ranges from 10 to 20 cm.

The self-tapping screws used must be at least 40 mm long, this will ensure a secure fixation to the wall in a wooden house.

Screw on the screws at the indicated points, and double-check with the help of the convector whether the distances match by bringing it to the heads of the screws. If so, then you can safely fix the hooks to the wooden wall.

When the fasteners are screwed, put a level on them and check the slope relative to the horizon, it can be leveled by loosening one of the fasteners and slightly raising it. Now you can hang the gas convector on a wooden wall.

Gas supply to the convector

Close the gas valve in front of the meter.

This process requires special attention in any room, and even more so when it comes to a wooden house. The main thing here is to check whether all the gas supply elements correspond to the description of the accompanying documentation.

Ball valves with a yellow marking on the handle are screwed onto the convector. Before starting, they must be in the closed state. It is necessary to fasten a hose or sleeve to the gas cylinder or line, be sure to check for the presence of a paranitic gasket in the union nut of the hose.

The next step is to connect the other end of the hose to the tap installed on the gas convector. Here you should also check if there is a gasket. After you need to compress all connections with ring wrenches.

Calculate the force, it is important not to transfer the gaskets, otherwise the gas will pass through the damaged parts of the system.

Now you can open the gas and taps on the convector. Using a shaving brush, apply the lather solution to all joints. After making sure that there are no leaks, you can proceed to the first start-up.

How to install a gas convector with your own hands

Required Tools and materials:

  • Metal-plastic pipe with metal fittings;
  • Pipe cutter;
  • Wrench for threaded connections and fittings;
  • Silicone sanitary;
  • Gas valve;
  • Perforator with a blade-shaped crown;
  • Drill and drill;
  • Phillips screwdriver;
  • Mounting foam high temperature;
  • High temperature silicone;
  • Plastic dowels with self-tapping screws to them.

The first stage, one of the most important - choosing a place for installation. According to GOSTs, it must be installed under the window. To be honest, I don't know what this is about. Moreover, I have seen that convectors are installed at a sufficiently large distance from windows.

Having chosen a place for installation, you need to try on the convector to the place. It is convenient to do this with the help of a tape measure, by transferring the dimensions, or, which is more reliable, by attaching the convector to the wall and marking the holes.

The next point is also important - the location of the gas inlet. If it is located at the bottom of the convector, it is necessary to leave a sufficient distance to bring a pipe with a clamp fitting to it.

Then, based on the diameter of the exhaust pipe, we punch through a hole in the wall using a perforator. This is the most dusty and time-consuming process. You need to be well prepared for it. Cover in advance, as much as possible, with plastic wrap.

Then drill holes for fasteners and drive dowels into them. Install the exhaust pipe into the opening of the convector. Treat the joint with high temperature silicone. Holding the convector with your hands, insert the pipe into the hole in the wall. Attach the convector to the wall with dowels. This is not easy, because the convector is quite heavy. Ask someone to help hold it. Some do it differently, but this method has been tested by me many times. I find it the most convenient. The result was a convector screwed to the wall and a chimney pipe sticking out to the street.

Blow out the remaining gaps between the pipe and the wall with high temperature foam. Put on a special cap designed to protect the burner from blowing in the wind on the end of the pipe. It is included. This cap is attached with self-tapping screws, also included in the kit.

So the convector is installed, now let's connect the gas.

Gas supply to the convector

According to GOST, it is necessary that the pipe that goes to the convector pass along the street. So let's do it. If the gas pipe has a threaded connection made in advance, then you just need to screw a gas valve onto it, which cuts off the gas supply to the convector. Well, if the pipe is without a drain, it will be necessary to do it. This work can be done by a gas welder. Ideally, a specialist from Gorgaz or a similar office.

After the gas cock is installed, run metal-plastic pipe to the convector. Using a tape measure, we calculate the length of the pipe, and the number of fittings.

By the way, when buying fittings and a pipe, make sure you have a certificate of conformity required for this kind of work.

Now install the pipe, attach it with clips to the wall every meter. To install the clips, drill holes in the wall. When installing the pipe, lubricate both the pipe and fittings with silicone for additional sealing. In addition, silicone will facilitate the installation of pipes, as it will serve as a lubricant.

As a result, we get a convector that hangs on the wall, an exhaust pipe, a cap and a gas pipe fixed to the wall and connected to the convector.

We start the gas convector

Immediately before starting, we open the gas valve and go through all the joints, fittings and threaded connections with a brush moistened with a small solution. Dishwashing liquid is excellent for this purpose. If you see bubbles rising, turn off the faucet immediately and fix the leak. I forgot to say - at this moment it is better not to smoke.

After repacking the joints, start the convector. To do this, press the gas supply button and do not release it for about a minute so that the gas fills the pipes and enters the combustion chamber.

Now press the piezo ignition button. A spark will ignite the gas and a blue, cheerful blue flame will ignite in the combustion chamber. In case you did everything right :).

Adjust the operation of the convector to obtain a comfortable temperature.

At first, for about a few hours of operation, the presence of an unpleasant smell of burnt oil is allowed. It's not scary - the convector is new - the combustion chamber is warming up and burning. However, if the smell does not disappear for a long time, you need to turn off the gas and carefully examine the junction of the outlet of the convector and the exhaust pipe.

Attention: All of the above work is best done by a specialist. Do not forget - self-installation gas convector leaves you without the right to repair it under warranty. And of course, the convector must be accepted by Gorgaz, and for this a tie-in project is needed.
