How to make beautiful writing pens. Some interesting ideas on the topic: "What can be done from pens?"

Good day, brainfriends! You may be interested in learning about brain process creating a dainty ballpoint pen that I made for my wife the other day.

Such a brain pen from paper and epoxy resin in a technique known among knifemakers as "getinaks".

Making handles is a fairly common activity for carpenters with special kits and tools that are becoming more affordable. (Included tools, such as the pen core, can be easily reused for other purposes and expand your do-it-yourself options.) In that brainguide I use a "fine pen" set.

My wife (just three weeks ago we said “agree”) has joint problems and it has been found that the ergonomic shape of a ballpoint pen is very helpful in avoiding pain, which is why on top of her crafts I added a fairly large ball.

Step 1: Cutting Paper for the Pen Body

For my homemade I chose several large sheets of paper in different but accentuating colors (dark green and cream) and folded them together before cutting them into 2.5x2.5cm paper squares with a jigsaw.

During this brain procedures And always, it is important to observe safety precautions! For myself, I found a safe way to cut paper - to clamp it between two wooden blocks, and thus keep it on the jigsaw table.

You can also cut the paper with a knife or scissors, but whatever method you choose, be careful.

Step 2: Creating a jig for the handle body

I put together a small jig that will help organize the paper squares while gluing them. This conductor is made of two bars, lined up in the shape of the letter G, and nailed to plywood.

Step 3: Gluing the Pen Body

This is the main and lengthy stage of everything. brain process.

The paper squares are glued to each other with epoxy, and during the actual bonding, the surface tension of the resin and paper hold the squares together, preventing them from falling apart.

My biggest concern was that the diluted epoxy would cure faster than I could finish the bonding process. crafts. Fortunately, if you dilute it in small quantities, then more time is obtained for gluing the squares, so I had time.

I believe that experimenting with different adhesives and resins can make the bonding process faster and easier than my experience.

Step 4: Cut out the body shape

And now the fun begins.

After the glued housing blank is separated from the jig (I did this with a jigsaw), it's time to determine where to cut it into pieces.

In the past, I have used a lathe with a long brain drill for drilling a through hole in the case, which is very convenient if this case has a beautiful wooden pattern and you need to perfectly align it. But in most cases it is still easier to use a drilling machine.

Before cutting on the jigsaw, I marked the cut lines with copper tubes.

Step 5: Drilling a Hole in the Case

Fixing the body workpiece crafts in a vertical position, with a 7mm drill I drilled through hole. But this is for my "handle assembly kit", yours may require a different diameter drill.

Step 6: Gluing the Tubes

I sand the copper tubes to increase the bonding surface area, and to remove dirt and grease, which can reduce the quality of this braingluing.

I applied medium density cyanoacrylate/superglue to the hole in the body of the pen and onto the copper tubes that came with the kit. The whole trick here is to not stop when inserting the tube into the hole. As the tube slides over the hole, the adhesive acts as a lubricant, but when stopped, it quickly bonds. Ideally, at the end, get the tube completely placed in the body of the workpiece.

For pushing the tube into the body homemade you can use a pencil or something similar.

***Tips from comments***

@Scanner2 writes:
After gluing the copper tube into the case, there may be some adhesive left inside the tube. To remove it, I use a 6mm drill, which I scroll in the opposite direction, thereby reaming the tube. The reverse direction does not engage the material of the tube, but passes through it.

(Great tip - I'd add that depending on your "set" and the way you're sanding the copper tubes, it might be a good idea to file along the sharp edges of the tubes, which will reduce the chance of the tube snagging on the body and make it easier to connect the handle when before. business comes).

Step 7: Facing

My "handle assembly kit" came with a trimmer.

I clamped it in the lathe chuck brain machine and planted a blank copper tube on its pin to the blades, which remove excess material around the tube. The result is a perfectly flat surface for the insert to be mounted later.

If there is no such trimmer, then you can grind or cut the outer surface flush with the copper tube.

Step 8: Connecting blanks and forming a profile

Prepared paper blanks are put on the core with an insert of the appropriate size between them.

In my case, the liner is thin, "slimline", although there are many other styles to choose from.

After that, I began to shape and finish the shape of the handle using various tools. For a more complete overview of the turning tool and how to work with it, I have prepared a short guide for one magazine, and you can read it.

Step 9: Finishing and polishing

Before applying the finish coat to under the tree, I wanted to make sure the shape of the pen was "perfect".

After my satisfaction and sanding with 1000 grit sandpaper, I applied a thin layer of superglue, spreading it evenly with my finger. The main thing here is to apply enough, with a small amount of glue will not lubricate the surface during its distribution.

So I put on brain pen four coats of superglue before sanding it down with 1500 grit sandpaper and buffing it with polishing compound to bring it to a mirror finish.

Cabinetmakers call this process rubbing, which results in a flawless look that satisfies you, and it takes a lot of effort to achieve it.

Step 10: Handle Assembly

Components in a kit like mine have a friction fit but can easily fail if you're not careful.

I came to the conclusion that it is better to dry-assemble the kit in order to understand the position of the components in homemade and work out the order brain assembly. For example, if you do not install the tip of the pen before the mechanism, then there may be problems. I used a vise to press the parts and get a good fit.

One last thing I would recommend is getting some high quality ink for your pens, because regular ink is usually just fine, but not the best. All "Cross style" pens essentially have the same mechanism, so you can successfully use the same ink as people who have spent a lot more than you on their pens, plus there's a cool thing about having one in your kind of pen, and which you made with your own hands.

That's all, everyone brain luck!

Summer will soon begin and parents will need to come up with various activities for their children every day. On one of the evenings, you can arrange a real master class on how to make a writing pen yourself from materials available at home.

Paper pen: how to make

Take one plain sheet of paper in the classic size - A4. It is necessary to measure 14 cm from its longest side. This is a little more than the length of any plastic rod used.

On the other side, approximately 10-12 cm is measured, which is less than the rod. This important point, which must be observed so that the lower part of the handle can be made in the usual shape of a known cone. Next, the marks are connected by drawing a line. Subsequently, it is necessary to cut the sheet along it.

On that side of the sheet, where 14 cm were previously noted, it is necessary to apply glue, carefully wrap the prepared rod.

It is important to follow the instructions on how to make a pen without deviating from it in anything. After the glue dries, the paper is wound as tightly as possible around the entire rod, and its edge must be additionally smeared with glue so that in the future your craft will never unwind during work.

During the work, make sure that the cone is formed only at the bottom of the stationery, since the other part must be as even as possible. If for some reason this cannot be done, it will be possible to correct the situation with a knife.

The created pen can be painted absolutely any for beauty. acrylic paint. It is advisable to choose acrylic, because after it dries, it will not dissolve with water.

If you decide to use watercolor / simple gouache while decorating the handle, then be sure that the part of the handle that you cover with them must be additionally varnished. Otherwise, you may get your hands dirty while using the pen.

Ready-made stationery can be pasted over beautiful paper, which today is often used in scrap / gift wrapping.

An interesting idea is to use for pasting the pages of a glossy magazine or popular in Lately foil tape that glitters.

From prolonged use, it happens that the paper begins to rub off. In order to avoid a repetition of this situation with the paper used for the pen, it is best to additionally paste over it with transparent tape or varnish it.

Of course, today in any store you can buy a simple pen, but if you are looking for what you can make a pen at home, then you are an admirer of the exclusive, and in combination with a large number of different master classes, where you can learn how various crafts are created and stationery including, you can create a pen that no one else will ever have. At the same time, such a pen can even be given to a friend as an author's gift.

Wooden handle

Looking through various original ideas homemade handles, you probably already came across a version of a wooden handle and so now it's time to dwell on it in more detail.

What materials may be needed?

A few metal tubes, a simple rod, a mechanism that will later be used for a pen, some wood blanks, sandpaper and glue.

All actions must be performed using lathe. Therefore, thinking about how to make a frame for a pen on your own, take care of finding it in advance.

Keep in mind that the use of any finishing materials will affect the color of the wood. Therefore, before you start applying them to the finished product, it is best to test on any waste. This will avoid unexpected results.

Saw belt type, like cutting machine are potentially dangerous if used incorrectly, so it is important to use them as carefully as possible and follow all safety requirements.

Don't let the fumes of different varnishes/adhesives have a negative impact on your health. It is better if they are used exclusively in a ventilated room, and as far as possible from materials that are flammable.

During operation, after stripping the metal tubes, be sure to lubricate them with good quality glue.

In the absence of wooden blanks, you can create them yourself using the online lesson.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that today more and more people are asked how to make a pen with their own hands every day, which is explained by a number of different factors. Having learned how to make it yourself, you can present the pen as a gift to a business partner or one of your friends.

The creation of even ten such pens will cost several times cheaper than ordering them at any enterprise.

Photo ideas of homemade pens

How to make a pen out of paper with your own hands, crafts by September 1 with your own hands. Step by step master class with photo.

August will end very soon, and parents of schoolchildren, together with their children, are already preparing for September 1.

For any student, pens are one of the most necessary things. Original, environmentally friendly pens for yourself or for someone as a gift, you can do it yourself.

The author of this wonderful idea is Veronika Podgornaya, a more detailed MK is in her LiveJournal, and I will tell you how my daughter and I made this pen (we did not make a cap).

Do-it-yourself paper pen. Master Class

  1. They took a sheet of A4 paper, measured 13.5 cm from its long side on one side (slightly more than the length of the plastic part of the rod), on the other side measured 12.3 cm (1.2 cm less to make the lower part of the handle in the shape of a cone). We connected these marks with a line and cut the sheet along it (see Fig.).
  2. We glued the paper on the side where we marked 13.5 cm, and wrapped the rod in it.
  3. We waited for the glue to dry, and carefully wrapped the paper tightly around the rod, smeared the edge with glue so that the handle would not unwind. When winding, you should try to make the cone only in the lower part of the handle, and the upper part should be even.
Our upper part turned out to be not very even, we had to trim it with a clerical knife.
  4. The top cut and the bottom of the handle were painted with mother-of-pearl acrylic paint for beauty.
It is better to use acrylic paint, it after drying, it is no longer soluble in water. If you use gouache, watercolor, etc., then the part of the handle painted by them must be varnished so that your hands do not get dirty from the paint later.
  5. The finished pen can be pasted over with beautiful paper (for example, the one used in scrapbooking or gift wrapping) or a picture from a magazine, or a pattern specially drawn for this. We pasted over the first copy of the pen with our favorite.
And for the second instance, because it was a black ink refill, we opted for black flowered wrapping paper.
  6. In order to avoid rubbing the paper with which the handle is pasted over from prolonged use, it can still be pasted over with transparent tape, but it is better to varnish it.

My daughter liked these pens so much that she proudly shows them to her family and friends.

We made one pen as a gift, and left the other for ourselves - Rita will go to a preparatory class this year, the pen will come in handy for her.
