How a plastic water bottle gave light to millions of the poor. Do-it-yourself lamps and lamps from plastic and glass bottles Light from the use of a plastic bottle

In order to decorate your room in an interesting way, it is not necessary to spend a lot of money. If you like glass chandeliers, then you can make one yourself from an ordinary bottle. You can learn about what options for bottle lamps exist and how to design them yourself from this article.

Peculiarities

Homemade lamps have many advantages over purchased ones.

  • Firstly By creating a decorative lamp, you harm nature less by reusing items that could be thrown away.
  • Secondly, make a lamp out of plastic or glass bottles much easier than it looks.

Even if you have never done needlework, then following simple instructions you can make an interesting and unusual ceiling.

  • Another plus of such lamps is that you can make them the way you yourself want to see them. Use your imagination and designers' advice, and you can get a really unusual decorative element for any of your rooms.
  • Lamps made of glass or plastic will be a real decoration of any room.

What are there?

Beautiful lamps can be made from both plastic and glass bottles. In addition, you can create the most different variants chandeliers Let's look at what you can do with your own hands from ordinary bottles.

Desktop

The easiest option that you can make a reality if you have an empty bottle is a table lamp. A simple solution is a wine bottle lamp. Choose a vessel unusual shape or the one that was left under expensive alcohol, so that it causes you more pleasant sensations and looks more spectacular.

Lighting features completely depend on the color of the glass from which the bottle is made. This is very good, because the room can create a more mysterious and cozy atmosphere. Most often, the glass of the bottles is dark green or transparent. If the bottle is transparent, then it can be additionally painted or decorated with other interesting details.

A lamp made from a simple bottle will perfectly fit into a romantic or New Year's atmosphere. It will add a special zest to the room.

To do this, simply decorate the lamp with an interesting colored garland. Now light monochromatic lamps are popular, but you can also choose the classic color version.

It is also worth remembering that the type of lighting depends on the choice of light bulbs. To get warm light in the room, choose yellow bulbs. And in a dark blue bottle with white bulbs, you can create a source of cold light.

Garlands can either simply be fixed on the surface of the bottle, or they can be placed inside in several ways. It will be most beautiful if you drill the bottom and draw a garland inside the bottle, bringing the edges out. So you get a fairly neat and beautiful lamp.

Experts advise to be as careful as possible when working with glass. To prevent the bottle from cracking, the bottom must be covered with masking tape, so it can be safely drilled with a drill at medium speed.

When you get a large enough opening to output the wiring, the tape can be removed.

For information on how to perfectly drill a bottle and make a beautiful New Year's lamp, see the next video.

If desired, you can also decorate the walls of the bottle. For this purpose, you need to use special stained glass paints that adhere well to the surface of the glass. If you have a well-developed imagination, you can try to create a picture yourself. Well, if there are no ideas, then it is worth repeating a ready-made idea or using a stencil. Another tricky way is to depict abstraction on the walls, which almost every beginner in the art world can handle.

However, even without additional decor, this original lamp already looks unusual and interesting. Table lamps from bottles are installed vertically, so that the neck looks up.

Often a candle is also placed inside the bottle. In this case, the improvised lamp turns out to be very romantic and spectacular. It can be safely installed in the bedroom. True, we must not forget about safety.

Suspended

Most best option- use a frame from an old chandelier to create your new design creation.

In this case, it will be enough just to fix empty bottles as classic shades. The bottom of each bottle will need to be cut off before use.

You can also make a lamp from plastic bottles. It's much more cheap option. In addition, such structures are very light and easy to mount. Plastic transmits light well, so the room will always be light. A cheap lamp from a bottle is suitable option for a summer residence or a street where you don’t want to mount anything particularly refined.

The easiest way is to simply cut a plastic bottle so that it looks like a ceiling lamp. The edges should be as accurate as possible. The surface of a plastic bottle can be coated with paint or painted with subtle patterns.

There is one more interesting option - decorate a plastic bottle with plastic spoons. Having cut off the handles, the base of the spoons must be attached to the plastic with hot glue. Each of the following layers should slightly overlap the previous one. It turns out interesting design that will definitely draw attention to itself.

You can also try decorate the surface of the bottle with designs in the form of small flowers created from the same plastic spoons. In this case, they will serve as petals.

LED

If you are looking for a good option lamp for the street, then you can make an LED flashlight yourself. Its main advantage is that it runs on solar batteries and charges itself. You will not need to worry about the condition of the wiring, because there will be none at all.

wall

Making sconces from glasses or bottles is enough difficult task. It is best if you already have a ready-made frame, which can be supplemented with a new ceiling lamp from the simplest bottle. An original wall lamp of this type will be good for the bedroom, especially if you take a bottle of classic greenish glass.

Where to use?

Like simple glass lamps, handmade bottles can be placed in almost any interior. It will look stylish and quite organic.

A glass lamp made from a bottle will be the perfect addition to your bathroom. It will reliably protect the light source from high humidity and decorate the room.

  • Organically, such a hand-made product will look in the kitchen. The glass surface of the chandelier goes well with household appliances and other details of the kitchen interior. You can add a glass bottle with forged elements.

  • On the street, a similar lighting option is also very beneficial. It protects from rain and snow. In addition, unlike purchased glass products, such a lamp will not burn out in the sun and will always remain the same as in the first days of its existence. Professionals advise not to paint the product. But if you want to use paint, then choose a quality one that will not fade in the sun longer.

  • Living areas such as bedrooms and living rooms lamps are used mostly as a decorative element. Decorate the bottle in original ways or leave it clean so it looks good in a minimalist room.

  • As a beautiful night light you can also use a lamp made of dense dark glass. Inside the lamp, you can place colored lights and a candle. The lamp itself can be placed both on shelves and on tables or bedside tables. Such decoration will look good in any corner of the room.

It is well known that country life quickly accustoms to saving. We have already told readers of our site about how to turn fallen leaves into.

Help save and energy-saving lamps, LED lighting. But Alfredo Moser, a mechanic from Brazil, offers his own solution - a solar lamp bottle. As the master says - why save expensive electricity if you can light up the house with free sunlight? It remains only to catch the sunbeam and launch it into the room. And although the idea is not new, the poverty of most Brazilians does not allow them to use a system built on refractive lenses.

As a sun catcher, the mechanic suggests using a plastic bottle filled with water with a volume of at least 1.5 liters. The system captivates with its simplicity: a hole is cut out in the roof of the house, and a bottle is inserted into it. The place of installation is closed with an overlay, and the joint itself is carefully sealed. Then water with a small amount of bleach is poured into the bottle.

Water, like a lens, focuses and then scatters the sun's rays, a bleach disinfects water and, by killing microbes, does not allow it to become cloudy for a long time.

As tests have shown, the service life of such a lamp is 5 years, and the power (on a fine sunny day) corresponds to a conventional light bulb of 50-60 watts.

Despite a number of shortcomings - the bottle lamp is completely dependent on the sun, more than 10 thousand houses, change houses and small buildings are already equipped with such lamps. The idea turned out to be so attractive that they became interested in the Philippines, where such lamps were widely used. More than 1 million people already use solar lamps here!

Alfredo Moser intends to modernize the solar lamp. For example, he suggests using more durable glass bottles, and instead of water, fill in a special fluorescent liquid, which, having accumulated energy during the day, will glow at night.

Making a lamp from a bottle with your own hands is quite easy. Of course, it’s not as easy as folding a paper airplane, after all, here you have to deal with a drill if you want to do everything beautifully, but still not as difficult as building a chair, for example. We will describe general principle creating a lamp from a bottle that you can customize to your own ideas. Good luck!

Required materials and tools:

  • drill and glass drill, or
  • diamond blade for the grinder (if you plan to cut off the bottom of the bottle),
  • any adhesive mass that can be used to cover the sharp edges of the drilled hole so that they do not cut the wire,
  • a garland or a lamp with a cartridge (depending on your goals),
  • if desired - various decorations such as a lampshade, etc.

How to make a lamp from a bottle with your own hands: step by step instructions

Chill the bottle first: this will make drilling easier.

In order to drill or cut glass, you need to be careful and careful. If suddenly one of your friends works with glass, you can contact this person; otherwise, do not be lazy to buy a glass drill: this way you will avoid unpleasant surprises in the form of a cracked or burst bottle surface.

After cooling the bottle, mark the point where you plan to make a hole. Be patient: it is better to drill slowly, from time to time allowing the drill to cool. The same goes for a grinder with a diamond disc.

Having drilled a hole, you have completed the most time-consuming stage of the whole work. Now you need to remove the sharp edges of the hole so that they do not cut the lamp wire. To do this, you can use sandpaper, cleaning the sharp edges, or any sticky mass - for example, plasticine. For wide openings, also fitted rubber compressor for the crane.

The final step remains - either insert a lamp with a base into the neck of the bottle, or fill the bottle with a garland, stretching it through drilled hole wire to the outlet. If you cut off the bottom, you need to stretch the wire of the bulb through the neck of the bottle, leaving the bulb itself inside the bottle. In fact, the lamp from the bottle is ready. It remains only to decorate it: hang a lampshade, paint, etc.

And to make it easier for you to decide on the design of your future lamp, we have collected 27 photos of bottle lamps for you. Happy viewing!

Master class on making a lamp from a plastic bottle. Even from two plastic bottles. Everything is done quite simply with your own hands. As a result, we get an interesting, original and one might say designer lamp.

We will need:
- 5 liter plastic bottle
- plastic shampoo bottle
- sealant
- wires
- metal tube
- bulb
- paint on glass
- polymer clay

These are the bottles we need.

Cut off about half of the 5 liter bottle.

From above, under the neck with a marker, we make six serifs. Equidistant, of course.

From these serifs we draw lines vertically down.

Next we need a drawing. These lamps were taken as a basis or idea.

With we draw an approximately similar pattern on the bottle. Try to make it symmetrical.

Below, where the drawing ends, cut out the plastic along the outline of the drawing.

Now, according to the marked drawing, we apply the sealant with thin lines.

Below, where we just cut off the drawing along its contour, we also do not forget to go through the sealant.

Let the sealant dry. After it is completely dry, cover it with silver or gold paint. We need to achieve a metal effect.

Now it is desirable to fill the cavities with paint on glass. Use more than one or two colors. Use three or more colors. The lamp will look richer and brighter.

Now cut off the neck of the bottle. We needed it for convenient application of sealant and paint. We held a bottle for him.

Now let's start cutting a small bottle.

But first, cut out an oval from plywood or thick plywood.

We make a hole in the middle of it. And we take two caps from such a small bottle and also make holes in them.

At the bottom of the bottle we make three holes in a line. Solder the lid to the bottom. The middle hole in the bottle and in the cap should match.

We insert a hollow metal tube.

We insert the bottle design into the oval.

We fasten with a nut from below.

To hide the traces of the connection, we cover everything with polymer clay.

We cover everything with golden paint or any paint imitating metal.

We fasten the bulb holder to the top of the metal tube. We pass the wires just through the tube.
We now return to the top of the lamp. From above, where the bottle had a neck, we make such a cap.

In order for the upper part to rest on the lower one without additional fasteners, we make such a structure on the light bulb.

Then this structure is inserted into the cap on top of the lamp. The photo shows the inside of the lamp. Because there is polymer clay, everything will harden, after a while.

TO MAKE A LAMP WE WILL NEED:

1. One round bottle drinking water 5 or 6 liters. In my example, a six-liter. The obligatory diameter of a round bottle must be at least 17 centimeters.
2. One bottle of 1.75 liters. Please note that we need a bottle with a narrow neck. Do not take bottles that are complex in shape as a basis.
3. Ceramic socket for electric lamps.

4. Electric two-core wire with a plug. The length of the wire is up to you, but keep in mind that 30 centimeters will remain inside the base of the lamp. Therefore, minus 30 centimeters from the total length.
5. Energy-saving LED lamp (LED) - 5 watts. It is forbidden to use another type of lamps in the lamp of my design!

Don't make me worry about your carelessness... Let's take care of each other.
These economical 5 watts will shine for all 40 watts of a conventional incandescent lamp.

Yes, and even this type of lamp has heating, but only at its base above the cartridge. Approximate heating temperature 70 degrees Celsius, after two hours of continuous operation. However, my tests of the finished lamp in its operation for more than 5 hours did not reveal even the minimum heat, neither the ceiling itself, nor the base of the lamp, nor the ceramic cartridge itself.

6. Sticks - glazing bead. Length 20 centimeters. You can use pencils or chopsticks for Sushi, but at least 20 centimeters long.
7. Twine - a rope made of jute. Two mothers. eco friendly natural material, pleasant to the touch and unimaginably hairy.
8. PVA glue. I used a transparent silacrylic (not silicone) sealant for windows and glass. Odorless, eco-friendly and non-toxic. But to use this type of glue, you need a gun. In the photo you see a tube of sealant inserted into a blue gun. I hope this “miracle of technology” is familiar to you.

I want to warn grown children. If you have never worked with electrical elements, do this work in the presence of a specialist or do not do it at all. Involving children in the work is useful, but do not forget about the safety of the child. Don't leave him unattended.

TOOLS:
Paint brush; mock knife; scissors; roulette; ruler; marker; simple pencil; small screwdriver; a couple of sheets of plain paper; some foil; some stationery tape; a little patience and a lot of attention in reading the text.

LAMP MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY.
We cut out the cap and the detail of the base of the lamp.
Initially, I wanted to make a base-stand from the bottom of the bottle, but after cutting out the inner diameter, the bottom lost its rigidity ... But this is not so important either. Winding Jute on a “snotty” base is a problem. Do not create unnecessary problems and waste time.
Here carefully! Before hastily cutting, look at photos #1 through #5 and read the instructions carefully.

So. We take a bottle (5-6 liters). The length of the finished lamp cap is 26 centimeters. Let me remind you. I have a 6 liter bottle.
We need to measure 26 centimeters from the neck of the bottle to the edge of the finished cap, plus from the measured 26 centimeters we will measure another 4 centimeters.

Measure all over the bottle, making notches with a marker. We will cut out the cap along these notches. The lower part of the bottle (bottom) is not discarded. We need these four centimeters from a large bottle for the base detail. See photo (No. 1, No. 2, No. 3).

Total. After measurements and cuts, we get: 1. Cap; 2. Detail of the base.(Photo No. 4).

Is the cut plastic of a large bottle twisted into a ring? So be it! Why do we need this detail of the base? Pay attention to the bottom of the 1.75 liter bottle. See the recesses at the bottom of the bottle? They reduce stability, and they will later create difficulties for us when winding Jute. Therefore. We will block these recesses with our cut-out part, thereby giving stability to the lamp. We insert a 1.75 liter bottle into the base part (photo No. 5).

Further. Take a small piece of tape. Fix the edge of the base part with tape (at the edge of the cut). Just do not fix the base part to the bottle itself!

Cut out a hole for the bulb holder.
Take a bottle of 1.75 liters. We need to make a hole for inserting a ceramic light bulb holder. We cut off a part of the bottle at the neck under the thread edge with a breadboard knife. Do not hurry. Do not squeeze the bottle, but hold it. Slightly pressing on the knife, drive the blade up and down. (photo No. 6).

They cut off and threw away the scrap ... the one with the lid ... of course. The length of the base of the ceramic cartridge under its extension in my example is 3 centimeters.

Important. After all, cutting a hole in the bottle under the diameter of the cartridge is fraught with its fragile fit inside the bottle.
Thinking... Let's take better advantage of the mold resistance of the plastic bottle. And having measured 3 cm lines from its cut neck (photo No. 8), we will make cuts with scissors. (photo No. 9).

Why not blooming tulip petals? We insert our ceramic cartridge into the resulting hole. Fine! (photo No. 10).

Thanks to the resistance of the plastic, it holds the base of the ceramic cartridge, which we will later fix with electrical tape.

The lamp must be stable!
Above, I explained to you why I refused to use the bottom of a large bottle as the base of the lamp. Decided to make it easier. I stumbled onto the street and looked for stones in the most crowded place with a preoccupied look. Look for flatter rocks. Just do not break bricks and concrete out of the foundations of buildings. Take it easy. You only need five or six small stones.

After searching, wash the stones with soap and dry them. From the stones we will make two bags of cargo. I wrapped three stones in foil, then wrapped it in plain paper. This is how the load turned out.

Why wrap stones in foil? First, the paper, soaked in glue, softens ... So that the stones do not fall apart, I wrapped them in foil. After the glue dries, the whole mass will become one. So. We do the second weight in the same way. For a while, we remove the base part from the bottom and make a hole at the bottom of the 1.75 liter bottle. Pour glue into this hole at the bottom of the bottle. If you have PVA glue, pour it into a medical syringe. (photo No. 11, No. 12).

Now we alternately push our weights through the neck of a 1.75 liter bottle. They put one weight in, again filled it with glue and put the second weight in, again filled it with glue. Next, take a long stick and ram the weights to stick them to the bottom of the bottle and to each other. (photo No. 13, No. 14).

After the glue dries, the "weights" will create a solid base, and will not strum in the bottle.

Holders of the cap (plafond) of the lamp.
Let me remind you. Length wooden sticks is equal to 20 centimeters. We use them as a holder. By the way. There is no glass bead, you can use pencils and even chopsticks for Sushi.

This is where I thought ... It's easier to insert a glass bead or pencils into the holes from four points of the bottle, but this is unreliable. Use strong glue, liquid nails is to use chemistry and sooner or later the holders will certainly break.
There is an option. Let's do it not quite simply, but firmly. Let's take and insert our sticks through the pre-marked holes. There is only one difficulty here. When inserting sticks crosswise, we must observe the difference in their height. That is, put them on top of each other.

Let's make a template from a sheet of paper. (photo No. 15).

Wrap paper strip around a 1.75 liter bottle, and mark it. The middle of the paper template is hole 1. The alignment of the edges of the template is hole 2. (photo No. 16).

The difference in the height of the sticks is equal to their thickness. We took a paper template. Wrapped, marked holes. Carefully pierce the bottle with the tip of scissors, making a hole. Expanded in a circular motion and inserted stick 1.

Such a daring, sexy story is due to the fact that it is with such a mount that your sticks inside the bottle will become strong holders for the llama cap and such a mount does not require additional structures. (photo No. 17, 18).

We make recesses for the holders in the cap (plafond) of the lamp.
It is clear that the cap must be installed at four points on the holders (sticks). To do this, put the cap (large bottle) on a piece of paper and draw a circle.

Yes, yes ... Again we make a template. We divide the circle in half in length and height. The resulting points are the center of our four notches. To check, if desired, we enter a square in a circle. (photo No. 19).

We put the cap on the resulting template and mark the risks on the cap. Now we measure the width and height of the notches from the center of the notches based on the thickness of your stick holders. (photo number 20).

Don't rush to cut. Gradually make notches with a breadboard knife, placing the cap on the sticks. According to the height of the sticks, your recesses will be different in length. Your main task is to ensure that the cap is inserted into the holders evenly without distortion. Cut off the excess, no problem. Cut a piece of plastic from bottle scraps and glue the missing millimeters to the top of the notch. Let's try a cap-plafond. Appreciated and appreciated. Adjusted, fixed, centered. (photo No. 21).

So we got a removable cap for the subsequent replacement of a burnt out light bulb.

Electric wire with a plug.
We take our bottle of 1.75 liters. Paste it into the base part. We mark with a marker from the bottom 3 centimeters. We make a hole. Or an awl or a hot nail or a soldering iron tip. The hole should not have sharp chips, so as not to damage electrical wire. We insert the wire into the resulting hole, leading the end of the wire to the neck of the bottle. Temporarily fix the wire at the neck with tape, and at the same time wind the wire with the plug and pack it in a bag so as not to get it dirty with glue. (photo No. 22).

Glue and wind Jute on the base of the lamp.
Well? Tired of making holes, inserting based on thickness? Then it's time to lubricate.

Jute rope is very durable and since it is natural herbal product without dyes and preservatives, it has not only a wonderful appearance, but also excellent absorption, and it will absorb glue into itself. Tried using PVA. good glue and excellent adhesion of polyethylene to Jute and Hemp. It is important that your PVA glue is of high quality.

In my case, I use transparent silacrylic sealant (not to be confused with silicone!) for windows and glass. Half of the tuba is left, it’s a pity it will disappear, but here it’s just right. The composition is odorless, environmentally friendly, non-toxic and can be painted with any kind of paint. At first it is white, like PVA, but after drying it becomes transparent. By the way, working with him reminded me of the building PVA. Please do not use toxic or flammable adhesives. Brownie's lamp must be completely safe! We proceed to a simple but painstaking work that requires perseverance and attention.

Take a bottle of 1.75 liters, a brush, spread glue and start winding Jute from the bottom up. Wind slowly, without effort, so as not to deform the bottle, but simply wrap it with Jute. They made three turns, pulled the threads to each other with their fingers, made three more turns, pulled them up and waited for five minutes, let them dry. Have a damp cloth with you to remove glue from your fingers. At the base of the lamp below, make not one layer of winding, but two. Wait until the first layer of the winding dries, then spread the glue on the winding itself and wind the second layer. I had to smear the dome of the cap (the ceiling of the lamp) with a glue mass with my fingers, gradually winding the Jute. And be sure to unscrew the cap from the bottle. We don't need her!
The short video of this article shows the Jute winding process.

Mounting loops in the cap (plafond) of the lamp.
Why do we need loops? For safety. (photo No. 26).

Little children and drunken uncles are very curious, but when their curiosity runs into an obstacle, they stop being interested in the little thing. Pets in the form of fast cat jumps and ever-wagging dog tails can also cause the lamp to fall. Two things please. 1. Our lamp does not break. 2. Housing led lamp plastic. However, do not give up simple work. (photo No. 24, No. 25). All you need to do is make two holes with an awl above each notch and thread a Jute rope through these holes.

Too lazy to measure loops? Just thread long ropes and, as a result, tie the ropes with a bow on the four sides at the ends of the sticks. Four jute bows are a lovely decoration.

And generally speaking. Stop being banal. Dinner by candlelight... Here is a romantic dinner like no other by the light of a wonderful independent lamp. And after everything else and with the same cozy lighting. There will be something to remember at the Diamond Wedding.

Connecting a ceramic cartridge to an electrical wire.
The wires are made colored not for the aesthetic admiration of the eye of the layman. Be careful. Your cartridge is marked with two Latin letters “N” and “L”. And this is not jargon, but a special designation for connecting to electrical wires. So your wires, according to the color, should be attached to the contacts. (photo No. 27).

I strongly recommend reading!
If you have never worked with electrical components, use the services of a specialist or purchase ready product. I have no right to take responsibility for your actions. The lamp I designed is just a prototype made for individual use.
Please take a look at the pictures for connection details.
I also advise you to watch a video explaining the connection of electrical base cartridges to an electrical wire.

N (zero) connect the blue wire.
N is always blue. None, drunk, screwed up, drunk, drunk, to zero, turned blue. Another example. Captain Nemo lives in a submarine that plows the blue ocean. Now remember?
L (phase) connect brown wire.
It can be burgundy and red and purple. I've even seen black.
