How to make a ladder to the roof: installation instructions, tips and videos. Roof ladder - how to make various designs yourself Roof hooks

If it is necessary to carry out roofing work, the question often arises of how to make a ladder to the roof. There are many recommendations regarding side and suspended installations made of wood and aluminum. To ensure the most comfortable and safe installation, it is important to adhere to the basic requirements and rules. You also need to stock up on the necessary tools and materials.

wooden stairs

Below is the topic of how to make a ladder for working on the roof, what materials will be required for manufacturing:

  • Boards 16x2.5 cm.
  • Beam 4x4 cm.
  • Self-tapping screws 10 cm.
  • Trimming boards and timber 4-6 cm thick.

Basic manufacturing requirements:

  • An increase in the width of the side board is provided to prevent damage to the roofing by the stairs.
  • In a situation where it is necessary to find a way out, regarding the question of how to make a ladder to the roof with your own hands, it often happens that the roof is equipped with corrugated material. Then the gap of the sides should have an indicator that is a multiple of the distance between the crests of the waves.
  • For example, if the gap between the ridges is 10 cm, the distance between the boards will correspond to the parameters 50, 60 or 70 cm. This contributes to the even laying of the structure without damaging the wave.
  • The rungs for steps are made of timber, as it is much more convenient to stand on them than on thin boards.

Deciding to make a ladder for roof repair, you can be guided by two motivations:

  1. The leg is located at a comfortable distance from the overlap.
  2. The area for the foot allows you to sit down if necessary.

Thin steps will quickly cause foot fatigue and cause discomfort in other areas.

In order to correctly determine the dilemma of how to make a ladder to climb the roof, to fix the steps, it is necessary to prepare nails by 10 cm. They are bent on the other side, sinking the tip into the wood. Fastening steps with screws is less reliable, especially if there is a thin base.

To prevent damage to the roof, it is necessary to check the bending of the nails after placing the steps.

Creating a hook

Then a “hook” is created - a structure that allows you to hook the staircase to the roof ridge. The hook withstands the load from the ladder installation and the user.

If you need a ladder for the roof, it will not be difficult to do it yourself. First you need to prepare thick boards. Then they are fixed with nails by 15-20 cm. The length of the hook is from 30 cm. With an increase in the value, increased reliability is ensured.

Security

Often by reverse side a counterweight is placed in the form of a board that allows you to cling to the stair structure. Adjustment of the angle between the hook and the base of the ladder structure is provided by means of special blades or by cutting the hook at a given angle. It may not match the installation angle.

Armed with a protractor and a level, you can easily cope with the task of how to make a ladder to the roof of a house. With a slight (20-30º) slope of the roof slope, the ridge angle is close to 60-70º. This requires creating a large hook or creating a reliable counterweight on the back side. As an example, the board mentioned above can be considered.

If the length of the base is not sufficient, it is necessary to build it up with a nailed auxiliary overlap board.

It is not recommended to equip the ladder with different hooks for hanging tools. Clothes cling to them, which leads to a loss of balance. Alternatively, you can use a special construction belt.

Many will have a question regarding the visual display of the structure on the roof. Therefore, below is a brief information on the topic of how to make a ladder to the roof on the video:

Attention! The movement of the stairs is made by two people.

One user sits on a skate, and the second, being on the ground or on a scaffold, slightly raises the ladder structure and the two of them push it into a predetermined position.

Creating a flight of stairs

The side supports are called bowstrings. They are constructed from 2 beams (size 25x60-70mm, etc.). The bars are superimposed on each other with a wide face. They are nailed with nails (7-8 cm). Step through 20-25 cm. Nails are hammered from different sides. The sharp parts are bent and driven into the array.

After creating two bowstrings, steps are sawn and nailed to the bowstrings. To do this, pre-drill the gaps in the steps. There should be at least 3 nails on all sides. You can pre-cook staples or strips of metal 1.5-2.0mm.

Second option:

Both bowstrings are created at a time by sawing a spruce pole in two with a section of 8-10 cm at the top. Skinning is in progress. The steps are created from similar thin chocks, split in two. All sharp corners are cut off with an ax. Stairs are nailed down. The dried staircase is painted with a non-slip coating for outdoor use. This results in an increase in service life.

Ladder assembly

  • The assembly of the ladder structure on the slope is carried out on the ground. Brackets for fixing the ridge are fixed to the product. Then, roof supports are placed at the attachment points of the crossbars, the step is 2 m.
  • The specified installation length is measured along the roof slope. The excess material is sawn off, then the assembled structure is lifted onto the roof and fixed to the upper boards included in the construction of the crate.

Attention! On the ground, a flight of stairs for the walls is also assembled.

  • Mounted handrail and wall supports. Their step is close to 2 m. Brackets for cornices are connected to the upper supports for the walls. After that, the ladder installation is placed in the right place and fixed to the march placed on the roof. This will require 2 brackets, and the brackets for the cornices are fixed to the supports on the walls.
  • It is important to ensure that the lower rung for the wall surface is placed at a height of close to 100 cm above the ground. The location of the upper crossbar is carried out at a height of 10 cm from the eaves.
  • Then pre-assembled brackets are attached to the bottom and top of the crate. Seals are mounted between the brackets and sheets for roofing. By means of brackets, the transitional bridge is fixed.

  1. To calculate the height of the structure, you should install the board on the ground at the point where the ladder is provided. This is followed by a horizontal check.
  2. When determining the slope of the flight of stairs, a range is selected within 30 - 45 gr. When the angle is reduced, a lot of space will be required. The angle is determined by the number and height of the steps. For example, you can use a simple ratio: provided that the height and width of the steps is 20 cm, the slope will be 45 g. If the width is 22 cm and the height is 19 cm, the slope is 40.5 degrees.
  3. When calculating the step parameters, it is necessary to provide that the foot is completely placed on the step, without touching its elements. Raising the leg should not be more than 30 cm.

The structure is stored along the walls of the house. If it is placed in a suspended state on a metal hook, this will prevent rain from entering and drying in the sun.

Satellite dishes are now not uncommon, and they are installed on the roof of private houses. A ladder built on the roof not only protects you and your loved ones from accident, but also serves as a convenience, protects the roof of the house from damage. Walking on the top of the house and improper handling of tools can push through the ceiling. After all, rotten or damaged roofing causes leakage during the rainy season and snow melting.

There are many different types of this necessary accessory for repairs and at home. Often stairs are made from steel, aluminum and wooden boards. And from the blanks you can collect finished structure for the building.

However, the following stairs are most often used for the roof:

  • Attic (on the attic or roof);
  • Wall-mounted to rise from the ground to the roof;
  • pitched;
  • emergency;
  • For a gable roof.

Please note that there should be less than ten centimeters between the edge of the cornice and the top step. From the stairs to the wall, a distance of more than 20 cm is required.

Wall stairs are also called facade stairs. Where the front staircase ends, there must be handrails with good fastening. The top step should be at the height of the roof ledge. The distance from the vertical ladder to the window sill should be more than 1m.

Do-it-yourself ladder to the roof ridge: what you need to consider

The ridge of any roof can be made from the same materials as the roof. The roof ridge is also called the ridge strip, there are many different profiles to suit you. What design do you need?

The horse can be of any kind:

  • figured form;
  • Angular;
  • Semicircular;
  • conical.

When building a roof, the height of the ridge must be determined first. This is useful when calculating the volume of building components and the purchase price. After making the ridge, you should make a hook for attaching a ladder to it.

Note. This structure must be properly secured to prevent injury. It is necessary to minimize the probability of falling down.

How to make a ladder for roof work and what you need

results installation work with a roof ladder should provide an aesthetic appearance. The structure is fixed with brackets. They will pass through special holes. You must create a reliable waterproofing in the attachment points, and above all, ensure the safety of being at the top.

To work, you will need the following:

  • Self-tapping screws;
  • Bars with a cross section of 40×40mm;
  • Flat wooden planks section area 16×2.5mm.

The horizontal part of the steps is created from bars. Thin steps cause foot fatigue, and this must be borne in mind.

DIY staircase: drawings and diagrams

Any roof over time needs to be serviced, carried out different types repair. And so you can not do without special equipment. After all, it is necessary not only to move along the roof, but also to maintain balance, carry loads. Therefore, the safety of working at height is paramount here. You need a roof ridge and a homemade ladder that will be attached to it.

Finished stairs have disadvantages. Firstly, they have a high cost, even if it is cheap China. And secondly, the staircase may not fit into the frequency of the waves, and this will harm both the stairs and the roof. Sometimes the sizes and characteristics of stairs in building supermarkets do not fit the existing roofing material.

It is not difficult to select the necessary drawings with the selected scale for the dimensions of the structure. The main thing is to correctly perform all the calculations and correctly mount the stairs. On the drawing of the house, its location must be indicated. You must design everything correctly and without errors and correctly install the structure.

Economical option: do-it-yourself roof ladder

Many private houses have wooden staircase on double pitched roofs. Wood is much simpler and more convenient than the popular metal profile. Fragility must also be taken into account. roofing materials. And this means that it is desirable to take boards with a large width.

You will need:

  • Boards and bars of different lengths;
  • Long screws;
  • Construction tools.

Choose the minimum weight: aluminum stairs

Various aluminum building accessories are popular today. Because it is considered easy to use, lightweight and durable material. In GOSTs and SNiPs, much attention is paid to building safety and prevent slipping down, repair technologies.

In roof work ladders made of aluminum, the rungs must be curved in order for the climb to be safe. And you can install a metal structure at a variety of angles. In such ladders, the highest quality and proven material is used.

What should be the ladder for a metal roof

If you need to make a metal tile staircase, take two poles 50x50mm and 6 meters long. You will need thin boards as steps. Use light and dry material. Steps are attached with self-tapping screws. The staircase will be completed in any case, since laying it in this form is risky.

For a ladder of 6 meters you have to make 10 - 12 bars. They must be wrapped with foam (soft material) or penofol.

How to install a roof ladder (video)

The bars are attached to the stairs with self-tapping screws. The width of the stairs should correspond to the distance between the two poles. The bars along the edges must be rounded with a planer. If you have gable roof, then a hook is useful for attaching a movable ladder.

Do-it-yourself ladder to the roof of the house (photo options)

Work on laying roofing, maintenance and repair of the roof requires the use of structures and devices that provide the ability to move along the slopes. Doing without them "on top" in some cases is prohibited by strict safety regulations.

For construction, periodic cleaning, and damage repair, the owner of the house will need both a portable ladder for roofing the roof and its permanently installed counterpart. You can buy them in building markets or make your own.

Arrangement and operation of pitched roofs with a steepness of 25% (from ≈14º) requires the mandatory use of stairs. If the angle of inclination exceeds 33% (≈18º), you will also need a safety belt to work at height, and a safety hook or rail to it to fix the safety equipment. In regions with snowy winters, stairs are recommended to be equipped with anti-slip steps.

Roof stairs, depending on the operational purpose, are divided into:

  • Portable. Designed to ensure a stable position of the roofer during the laying of the coating, roof communications devices.
  • Stationary. Designed for free and safe access to the roof for repairmen to repair damage, chimney sweeps for chimney maintenance, owners to remove snow drifts, etc.

Both varieties are produced by the industry in the form of prefabricated and solid metal structures. Previously, they were made exclusively from wood, from which skilled home craftsmen still make stairs for the roof.

Regardless of the intended purpose, the staircase must guarantee:

  • Safety when moving up/down its rungs.
  • Reliability, strength of connection of structural parts.
  • Stability, the ability to move to adjacent walkways or assembly steps without losing balance.
  • Ease of use, sufficient for comfortable movement, the distance in width and in the step of the steps of the stairs.
  • Exclusion of damage to the roofing.

In a typical embodiment, the roof ladder is an elementary structure. Its bearing elements are two parallel beams-bowstrings or stringers, between which steps-beams are installed at an equal, convenient distance for making a step.

The difference between these two varieties is in the methods of fixing on the roof, which leads to the use of some design differences.

Portable roof ladders

Mobile ladder structures are designed to perform one-time or rarely performed operations. Therefore, they are fixed temporarily with the help of unpretentious elements that can provide stability.

Temporary use design requirements

The need for periodic movement and temporary fixing of the web should not affect the safety parameters and convenience criteria. A portable ladder for roofing should be:

  • securely fixed in a stable position on the roof;
  • able to withstand the weight of a roofer up to 150 kg;
  • devoid of the slightest play of parts;
  • easily moveable within the pitched plane;
  • harmless to the elements of the roofing system.

The listed requirements are met by a ladder structure with a mounting bracket thrown over the ridge edge of the roof. Such factory-made products are equipped with wheels that facilitate movement along the ramp.

To install them, you just need to roll the stairway onto the slope, and upon reaching the ridge ridge, it is trite to turn it over so that its hook-shaped bracket covers the ridge and fixes on it.

Factory-made stairs are made of round or profile metal pipe. They are single-section for roofs with a transverse slope size of up to two meters and multi-section, made up of several canvases for larger areas. In the manufacture of steel alloys and aluminum are used.

Home craftsmen who have the skills of a welder can easily weld a roof ladder from a steel pipe, angle or strip, focusing on the dimensions of industrial products and dimensionsprepared for laying the coating or for repair.

The metal mounting ladder with bracket is a descendant of the wooden prototype, equipped with a semblance of this mounting hook. Now it is usually built from lumber, in extreme cases use a circle. For the price and technical specifications spruce wood is perfect. For the installation of beams, a board 50 × 150 or 100 × 150 mm is most often used. For the construction of steps, a bar 30 × 50 mm or a pole with an average diameter of 60 - 70 mm is used.

Options for manufacturing a wooden structure

In order to prevent a home-made wooden staircase from scratching and damaging the coating, felt linings are made under the edges of the load-bearing beams. Instead, you can sew and attach 4 small pillows stuffed with rags, cotton or straw to the bottom of the bowstring.

You can make a simple wooden ladder for the roof with your own hands in several versions:

  • In the form of a ladder. In this version, the base of the stairs is a board 30x300 mm or 50x300 mm. A 40 × 60 × 420 mm bar is attached to it every 30 cm with a nail fight or self-tapping screws so that the edges of these peculiar steps extend 50 mm beyond the ladder on both sides. For the opposite slope, a similar ladder is constructed, which is fastened to the first strip of sheet metal.
  • In the form of a stepladder on stringers. The base is made of two boards 100 × 150 or 50 × 150 mm, to which a bar is attached from above with galvanized screw nails of 10 cm.
  • In the form of a ladder on bowstrings. It differs from the previous variety in that the crossbars are installed between the beams, and are not nailed on top. The work is more delicate and time-consuming, but the result is absolutely harmless to coatings, because attachment points are located in the beams on the side. Instead of a wooden block, it will be more convenient to use a screw cord of a suitable size.

The length of a home-made wooden staircase is selected so that the length of the canvas in contact with the slope is about 10 cm shorter than it. The crossbars are set at 300 mm, the recommended distance between the beams is 400 - 450 mm. Before making a roof ladder, of course, it is better to make a project for it and think over what method is better to arrange the canvas itself and the bracket.

A neatly made portable ladder with a bracket can be used as a stationary one if 2-3 additional mounting hooks are attached to the crate through the coating. They will be needed to fix the canvas so that it is not blown away by gusty winds.

Before installation, you should accurately measure the distance between the crossbars, which will have to be supported by hooks, so that the “landing” at all points is tight.

Mounting hooks will help turn an ordinary ladder into a roof option. To do this, they are attached to the crate after 1.2 - 1.5 m, and then they simply “hang” the stairway. Note that one attachment point for stability is not enough. It is desirable that the position of the canvas is fixed by 3, at least 2 hooks, but in the latter case, the roofer will also need insurance.

The simplest and cheap way turn an ordinary ladder into a roofing ladder - lay a board on the opposite slope with a large nail nailed in the area of \u200b\u200bthe ridge. The canvas with the upper crossbar must be hooked onto the nail. If the slope is not too steep and there is confidence that such a design will support the weight of the master, you can use it.

Assembly and installation of a stationary ladder

Ladders for permanent use, fixed on the roof after its arrangement, are necessary to provide an exit for roof inspections and repair operations. They are also needed to service other systems located with outside or crossing the structure. Among them ventilation devices, chimneys, external units of air conditioning circuits, antennas, etc.

A stationary roof ladder, by analogy with the previous one, can be bought for assembly and installation in the form of a set of finished parts or made independently from wood or rolled metal. We will analyze the fundamental principles of construction from factory-made modules, based on which, in terms of size and connection scheme, you can make a home-made design.

Design and preliminary calculations

Ladders for maintenance, repair and cleaning of snow deposits from roofs are installed by fixing to the crate, less often to the rafters.

In any case, holes are formed in the roofing for installing attachment points. Therefore, errors in the location of the canvas, its dismantling, transfer and similar actions are highly undesirable. It is better to foresee everything in advance, assess the situation and choose a thoroughly thought-out place.

The choice of a place for stationary fastening of a roof ladder should take into account:

  • Convenient safe passage to the objects on the roof that need maintenance and repair. In order to be able to move in the required direction to all points of the roofing system, a stationary ladder is usually used in conjunction with walkways.
  • Rational arrangement of the roofing sheet. Best Option a device near the input group is considered.
  • Type of roofing. For installation on a seam roof, for example, the center of the sheet must coincide with the vertical seam, because an additional bracket is installed on it. For installation on a tiled, slate, metal profile roof, it is necessary to select the mounting points for the brackets in the profile depressions.

The approach to the fixed staircase can be located from the side of the pediment or from the side of the roof overhang. The first of these layout schemes is more difficult to implement, because requires a clear exhibition of the canvas in the horizon. Most often, a ladder is installed on a slope: it is easier, but also requires a thorough study of the solution.

The choice of the location of the stairs is influenced by the type of lathing, which is directly related to the roofing used in the arrangement. After all, brackets can only be attached to a solid base.

Under shingles, for example, they arrange a continuous flooring, because the installation of stairs can be carried out almost anywhere. A sparse crate is constructed under the metal tile with a step of 30 - 35 cm, and the fastening of the stairs must necessarily fall into the lath.

During the design period, it is necessary to decide whether a wall ladder will be used, providing a safe climb and transition to the roof deck or walkways. The location of the object being constructed is thought out in advance relative to ventilation risers, chimneys, etc. Having decided on the location of the stairs, you should calculate the length of the canvas installed on the slope.

Most manufacturers of roof ladders supply blades in two sizes: 1800 (1860mm) and 3000mm. The canvases can be extended to the required length by connecting the sections and cut off the excess with a hacksaw. It should be remembered that all manufacturers prohibit cutting polymer-coated stairs with a grinder.

According to the rules, the stairway must be attached to the roof and to the ridge run, but the latter measure is not mandatory. For fixing to the ridge beam, a special type of fasteners is produced. They are made in the form of an elongated metal strip with mounting sockets. During the installation period, the roof bracket is partially inserted under the ridge extension.

With the use or refusal of fastening to the ridge, it is necessary to decide at the stage of project preparation, because:

  • If the fixation will be made only to the slope, the length of the staircase is less than the width of the slope by only 20 cm. 10 cm each for indents at the top and bottom.
  • If pitched and ridge brackets are to be used, the length of the stairs will be less than the width of the slope by 10 cm of the lower indent and 45 - 50 cm required for the installation of ridge fasteners.

Mounting brackets for slopes are produced for various types roofing. According to the norms, there should be 4 fasteners for each stair section of 1.8 m if the installation is carried out on a metal tile, profiled sheet, ondulin, ceramic or bituminous tile. To fix the canvas 3 m, you will need 6 brackets.

Stairs are mounted on seam roofs using specialized brackets fixed to the standing seam. Such fasteners are placed in the center of the section, installed after approximately 1.5 - 1.8 m. They are used as an addition to conventional pitched brackets or to plastic legs, depending on the recommendations of the ladder manufacturer.

Stages of assembly and installation

Installation work begins with the preparation of the details of the future ladder structure for installation. If necessary, the fabric is cut from the edge opposite the crimps. The connection of the canvases is carried out in the manner indicated by the manufacturer of the product.

Mounting operations are carried out from top to bottom, i.e. in the direction from the edge of the cornice overhang to the top of the roof - the ridge. Fixing to the crate through the coating is carried out with self-tapping screws 8 × 50 mm with nuts and plastic washers that ensure tightness.

Step by step work:

  • We mark the place of installation of the extreme pairs of brackets. The bottom pair should recede from the edge of the cornice 20 cm. The top pair should be positioned so that it is between the top and the previous crossbar, but as close as possible to the top step.
  • Ordinary brackets located between the extreme ones are installed approximately in increments of 80-81 cm. If the canvas was assembled from several sections, then the bracket must be installed below the connection point.
  • If necessary, we prepare the marked points for the installation of the stairs.
  • We fasten the canvas, not forgetting to use washers that ensure tightness at the intersection points of the roofing.
  • We attach ridge brackets to the beams of the stairs and fasten them to the ridge beam.

Pitched stairs are not designed to withstand snow loads. Above them, it is recommended to install point snow retainers that redirect rainfall flows. If the anti-avalanche protection devices are accumulated snow mass are not provided, permanently fixed blades should be cleaned regularly.

Facade structure installation

The construction of a facade staircase is an optional procedure. Its function will be successfully performed by an attached analogue. However, its device will significantly increase the degree of safety of access to the roof, especially since the finished modules for the facade are equipped with comfortable handrails.

The length of the facade canvas is calculated so that its upper step is located directly opposite the edge of the cornice overhang. Height deviations within 10 cm in both directions are allowed. Between earth's surface and the bottom of the load-bearing beams of the stairs should be a distance of no more than 1 meter.

Sections are built up and shortened in the same way by cutting with a hacksaw. The canvas is assembled on the ground, the finished structure is lifted up. Brackets designed to fix the vertical ladder on the wall are attached with clamps to its beams. They are installed in pairs in increments of about 45 cm. To fix the brackets, the fasteners are selected in accordance with the type of material from which the walls are composed.

For reliability, the upper mounting pair is duplicated with hanging brackets fixed on the rafters. This method redistributes the load and removes excess structural stress when climbing stairs.

After installing the main part, handrails are attached, for fastening which a bolt M 10 × 35 mm is used to the beams. The opposite side of the handrails is attached to the roof or to the beams of the pitched stairs using the brackets supplied with the front stairs. If desired, the length of the handrails can be cut traditionally by trimming.

The tension of the fasteners of both the pitched and the front parts of the stairs in the first operational year must be checked at least three times. If the fixation points do not need additional tightening and strengthening, then it is enough to carry out one inspection annually.

Nuances of handmade production:

The methods we have provided self-manufacturing mounting ladders and installation of stationary analogues will help to equip the roof, significantly increase safety when going to the roof.

Many owners of country cottages are interested in such a question as how to make a staircase to the roof of their own house with their own hands for its maintenance, holding repair work during operation? There are many options for ladder structures made of wood, aluminum. But for any product, basic rules and safety requirements are provided. In order to make a staircase with your own hands, you first need to study the assembly instructions, prepare the necessary building materials and tools.

In this article

Varieties of ladder structures for the roof

The following types of ladders can be used for roofing work.

wall

The scheme of this design involves fastening the stairs directly to the wall of the building, therefore, when erecting walls, mounting brackets are specially laid. Wood, aluminum and steel can be used as a material for the wall ladder structure.

Basic installation requirements:

  • The minimum distance from the stairs to the wall is 20 cm.
  • The first (lower) step should be a meter above the ground.
  • The extreme (upper) step should be at the level of the eaves or lower by 0.1 meter.

The wall ladder is additionally designed for evacuation!

Attic

This version of stairs is designed for internal works in the attic, so its design can be sliding or folding.

Roofing (pitched)

This version of the ladder structure is designed to work on the roof, so it is installed directly on the roof slope. The product is fixed by the skate with a special hook. Factory options for stairs are usually made of aluminum, at home they use wood. With the help of such a ladder structure, you can move freely on the surface of a sloping roof with a large slope of the slope.

Recommendations for making a wooden ladder for the roof with your own hands

If you decide to make a ladder for the roof yourself at home, you first need to prepare the building material, necessary tools. Of course, metal products are much stronger and more durable, but for their manufacture it is necessary to have special tools, for example welding machine, respectively, you need to be able to work with welding. This option is not for everyone. But everyone is capable of making a wooden staircase at home.

Stair structures made of wood have fairly simple drawings, they are easy to make with your own hands, they do not require special tools, and are much cheaper than metal, aluminum counterparts. Most the best option for country cottage considered a wooden ladder for the roof, made of coniferous trees. Such a product will not rot, so it will last a long time.

Required Tools

For the manufacture of roof stairs most often used wooden beam so you will need the following tools:

  • Hammer. Needed for nailing individual elements ladder structure made of wood.
  • Hand saw (jigsaw electric). It will be needed to cut the lumber of the desired size.
  • Construction tape measure. It will be needed for marking on wooden blanks.
  • Phillips screwdriver (screwdriver). It will be needed in the case of using screws instead of nails to fasten individual structural elements.
  • Nails - "weaving" or screws.
  • bar- 4x4 cm
  • Planks- 2.5x6 cm

Important! The length of the board must be selected depending on the size of the roof - common standard No! A staircase designed for roofing will last much longer if hardened self-tapping screws are used to connect its elements. They do not undergo the process of oxidation, do not wear out as a result of exposure to atmospheric precipitation.

Instructions for the manufacture of wooden stairs

After preparation building materials, tools, you can start making stairs. The side boards of the product should be as wide as possible to prevent mechanical damage to the roofing (the entire load in this case will be distributed evenly over the roof surface).

Important! Used building materials made of wood must be impregnated with special protective agents against insects, natural precipitation, then the life of the stairs will increase several times.

  • The length of the ladder structure should be approximately 80 percent of the length of the roof. For the manufacture of steps, it is recommended to take a wooden beam measuring 40x40 mm.
  • With the help of a construction tape measure, the side boards of the product are marked, after which they are cut hand saw or electric jigsaw. The edges must be sanded for safe operation of the product.
  • Further, these blanks must be placed parallel to each other (prepare for the installation of steps).
  • Nails can be used to fasten the steps, but as mentioned above, it is better to use hardened self-tapping screws. If the second option is used, then holes must first be made in the blanks to prevent cracking of the building material. When the ladders are fixed to the side boards, the entire ladder structure is carefully sanded. This is necessary in order to remove all sharp ends on the product, respectively, to prevent damage to the roofing (this is especially true for soft roofs).
  • Further, to fix the stairs for the roof, a special hook is made, which will go to the opposite side of the roof. This is the most crucial stage, since the finished hook will have to withstand the load of the ladder structure itself + the person who will carry out the roofing work. The design of the hook is similar to the design of the ladder itself, only its length is much less - from 30 cm. It should be borne in mind that the longer the hook is, the more reliable it will be.

There is another option for attaching a wooden ladder to the roof of the house - by the ridge. To do this, the corners are preliminarily mounted on the stair structure (they are screwed on the side boards of the stairs). Further, these corners are screwed to the roofing ridge with metal screws. This option of fastening the stairs to the roof is considered more reliable and safe for roofing work.

The basic rule for the operation of a roof ladder

All fasteners of the ladder structure, the hook must be periodically checked for looseness, looseness. In the event of such situations, the product should be moved to a new location and securely fastened to prevent possible injury to a person during roof maintenance and repair.
