How to make a jigsaw out of a sewing machine. DIY stationary jigsaw from a sewing machine

Many people know from childhood the fun of sawing with a jigsaw. The technology is simple. But despite the seeming ease and simplicity of work, you can get very beautiful lace made of wood or plastic. This is a very slow process that requires perseverance and patience. To facilitate labor, jigsaw machines were developed. They are functionally divided into two groups: with manual and electric drive.

Muscle-driven jigsaw device

Homemade machine is easy to make. You can find many drawings of this plywood product. With a jigsaw, with your own hands and with an improvised tool, a simple but functional device is assembled in a short time.

The scope of jigsaws is extensive. They are used for cutting figured products from a variety of materials. And also machines are needed when cutting lumber. In this case, the outer contour of the workpiece remains intact. If you use different nail files, then a homemade jigsaw will perfectly process natural wood, plywood, chipboard, plastic, metal, in particular aluminum.

Examples of drawings of a do-it-yourself jigsaw machine, which works on muscle strength, have been repeatedly cited in various magazines of the Soviet era.

Nail files for such a jigsaw machine are produced in the form of a flat blade.

The main parts of the machine:

  • Stanina (A).
  • A working table with a slot for a saw (B).
  • Large drive pulley acting as a flywheel (D).
  • Small drive pulley. The drive is combined with a crank mechanism (D).
  • Levers (B).
  • A pedal that spins the flywheel through the crank assembly (E).
  • Saw Tension Unit (G).

The master, constantly pressing the pedal with his foot, spins the flywheel. Through the belt, the movement of the flywheel is transmitted to the second pulley. Which, in turn, makes the crank mechanism with the saw blade move.

If the flywheel is correctly balanced, without distortions and with a uniform, correctly selected mass, then the nail file achieves good smoothness. Such a plywood sawing machine allows you to quickly produce many simple similar products. Cutting time and effort is significantly reduced.

With this design of the machine, the size of the initial workpiece is limited. It depends on the length of the levers (B). When the pattern becomes more complex, it is necessary to rotate the product around the saw.

Since the foot drive does not provide a completely uniform stroke and limits the freedom and imagination of the master, most often such machines are replaced with electric ones.

The design of the electric jigsaw

An electric tape jigsaw is a household universal device for making souvenirs, furniture, and various interior items. There are many options for the manufacture of such machines. But the main elements on which product quality and ease of use depend are the electric motor and the blade of the blade.

Main structural elements:

  • Saw blade.
  • Crank mechanism.
  • Drive part.
  • Tape tensioner.
  • Bed or desktop.
  • Various accessories.

Device and principle of operation

Alteration from a manual jigsaw

The first step is to make a desktop for the mechanism. For these purposes, a metal sheet or thick plywood is suitable. Holes are drilled and cut out in the worksheet for the cutting tape and fasteners.

Then the jigsaw table is placed on a regular table. After fixing, you can assemble the guide rails. To reduce vibration, just cut the rubber gasket right size and put between the jigsaw table and the main surface.

The above design is convenient in that it can be easily disassembled, and it can be used again as manual jigsaw.

Since the standard apparatus has springs that tension the saw, a rocker is needed. One end of the rocker arm is attached to the cutting element of the machine, and the other is under spring tension. These simple actions will easily turn an ordinary jigsaw into a machine.

When using the device, it is important not to forget to turn off the pendulum stroke before starting cutting.

Sewing machine assembly

From sewing machine you can also quickly and easily assemble a homemade jigsaw machine. Moreover, this device has an interesting feature - a nail file stroke regulator, since there is a speed switch on sewing machines.

First, at the bottom of the machine, you need to find the thread weaving knot. To do this, unscrew a few screws. Inside, the cotter pin is knocked out and the drive shaft is removed, which is connected to the weaving complex. After completing this procedure, the top panel is unscrewed. The groove along which the needle traveled expands slightly to fit the saw blade. The nail files themselves are slightly shortened to the size of the length of the needle. To fix the saw itself, you can make an adapter. But the easiest way is to grind off the upper part of the cutting blade and sharpen the lower one. After that, you can insert the nail file in place of the needle and get to work.

When working with jigsaws of any type, you should not forget about the safety rules. Do not leave the device turned on for a long time unattended.

If the master long hair, then it is better to pick them up or use a special hat. It is better to roll up sleeves on clothes. The room must be well ventilated. In the room where carpentry work takes place, a first aid kit with first aid for cuts must be kept.

For a person who is accustomed on your own deal with domestic problems, a jigsaw is a necessity. Electric jigsaws are also good for tinkerers, for those who live in their own home and for summer residents. You can make a jigsaw with your own hands, as this model is significantly different for the better from a hand tool. An electric tool improves the quality of sawn products, and also facilitates and speeds up the work process.

Types and purpose

A jigsaw is a thin saw, which additionally has a ski to guide the saw blade along the surface. The jigsaw was invented by Albert Kaufman, at first only replacing the needle with a blade sewing machine with foot or electric drive. The modern jigsaw has simple design in the form of an electric motor and driving the blade simple mechanism. The front, upper part of the tool has a guide, and the lower part contains a retractable saw blade that makes cuts. The electric jigsaw has a support platform that allows you to focus on the part being cut and work with great accuracy.

A jigsaw can cut plastic, plywood, copper, brass or steel with equal success. The functions of the jigsaw should allow it to make both straight and curved cuts on various kinds of materials without violating the external contour of the products. The fixed position of the tool allows you to make high-precision cuts. Manual jigsaws do not have a tension system and guides, thanks to which the jigsaw has such a smooth and stable ride.

For cutting small parts, a manual jigsaw is inconvenient. Since it is quite heavy, it has to be held with one hand, while the other hand guides the workpiece. The desktop jigsaw does not have this drawback, but it is difficult to process large parts with it, and it has a considerable size. It is best to use such a jigsaw as a mini-machine for the production of small workpieces. The simplest desktop jigsaw is easy to make with your own hands.

Manufacturing

The simplest model is made quite quickly, but its presence, as a rule, is enough for domestic needs. A neatly made jigsaw will not be worse than a factory-made one, but in some ways it may be able to surpass it. In order to make a jigsaw, you will need:

  • manual electric jigsaw;
  • heating thread;
  • screws;
  • plywood;
  • duralumin pipes up to 12 mm in diameter;
  • drill;
  • clamp.

For the normal functioning of the jigsaw, there must be the following parts: a comfortable handle, a switch (most conveniently a push-button), a power cord, a heating thread.

The first step is to make a frame from a duralumin pipe, but for the base you can also use textolite of at least 10 mm or thick plywood. The lighter the frame made, the easier it will be to use the jigsaw. The frame must have a channel for the power cord. Experts believe that the best frame shape is one that has one of the sides deviated by 45º.

Then, an earring is made from a millimeter thick copper sheet and fastened to the frame with screws in the place where the frame is connected to the handle. An earring, a screw and a wing nut form a clamp in which the heating thread is fixed. Pressing cheeks are made from a duralumin sheet 0.8 mm thick, and a push-button switch is located between them.

After that, a slot-like hole is cut in the plywood through which the file can pass. It is convenient to make this gap with a drill. Marking is made and holes along it, the transitions between which are smoothed. Instead of plywood, plexiglass, plastic, metal can be used. The drill then makes mounting holes on the plywood and on the base plate itself. The jigsaw on the plywood base is fixed with screws so that the file can pass through the gap. The structure is attached to a table or workbench with a clamp in such a way that the file is directed upwards. If the clamp does not fit, you can use another mount that is more suitable for a particular case. Although the file in this case remains standard, both hands are freed, due to this, the cutting possibilities are increased, so the design is functional in this form.

As a heating thread, you can use a nichrome spiral from any heating device, for example, from an iron. It is fixed like a standard saw blade between the ends of the frame with a little tension. 14 V is supplied to heat the filament, and a rheostat is used to control the voltage. The current determines the length and thickness of the nichrome filament; a rheostat helps to set the optimal current strength. The current strength affects the temperature to which the thread is heated, if it is too high, the material heats up and may catch fire, and if it is insufficient, cutting will not be possible.

An optimally tuned do-it-yourself electric jigsaw will allow you to cut out figures with complex shapes.

Perhaps you have an old sewing machine lying around and covered with dust.
In this article, the author YouTube channel"Vladimir Natynchik" will tell you how to make a completely suitable and functional electric jigsaw from it.

This homemade machine will not require in the manufacture of turning work. All you need are screwdrivers and wrenches.

Materials.
- Old electric sewing machine
-
- Spray paint blue metallic
- Sheet plywood
- Bolts, nuts, washers M6
- Second glue, soda
- A pair of bearings, like these

Tools used by the author.
-
- Hacksaw
- Wrenches, screwdriver
-, wood drills.

Manufacturing process.
So, Vladimir found an old seagull sewing machine.

To make a machine out of it, you will have to remove the fabric feed mechanism and rotate the bobbin. Those bolts that were not unscrewed, the master warmed up gas burner. After such a procedure, everything is very easy to understand.

At the top of the mechanism, the author made a small revision, lubricated important components, and removed the regulators.

The old electrical wiring has also been replaced.

Then the master painted all the surfaces of the machine with blue metallic spray paint.

With painting, he hurried a little, the machine needs to increase the working stroke of the rod. After all, now the plywood will be cut, and the fabric will not be sewn together. He made a lining out of 20mm plywood and screwed it between the base and the top of the machine.

In order to avoid unwinding of the bolts from vibration, the author filled them with paint.

The first check for performance and the amount of stroke of the blade.

There was a small problem. When the blade is loaded, it does not hold well on the rod, and shifts back.

In order to solve this issue, the master made a special stop from an M6 bolt and two bearings with washers laid between them.

Having made a cut in the plank, I fixed the bearings in it, and cut off the excess bolt.

On the underside of the machine, he secured the thrust mechanism with superglue and soda.

Now small tests on sawing a piece of plywood. Cuts very quickly and without chips. Well, Vladimir gave a second life to an old typewriter!

Hello DIY lovers, in this tutorial we will look at how to make a jigsaw machine from an old sewing machine. On such a machine, you can cut rather thick materials, of course, the machine is not intended for very accurate and accurate cutting, but the cutting quality is quite good. In fact, the sewing machine is already a ready-made jigsaw, here is a reliable assembly that turns the torque from the engine into the reciprocating movements of the saw. You just need to change the design a little and the homemade product is ready. If you are interested in the project and you need such a homemade product, I suggest studying the project in more detail!

Materials and tools used

List of materials:
- an old sewing machine;
- engine of suitable power;
- Belting;
- plywood;
- round timber;
- bolts;
- sheet iron;
- channel;
- profile pipes;
- plastic ties;
- cutting blade from a manual jigsaw.

List of tools:
- ;
- Miter saw;
- ;
- ;
- taps for threading;
- dye;
- spanners, screwdrivers.

The process of making homemade:

Step one. Preparing the sewing machine
Let's prepare the sewing machine, we need to remove all unnecessary. To begin with, we disassemble the lower part, unscrew the connecting rods, we need to completely remove the base from the machine.

Further, on the sewing machine in the back there are two rods, we leave the one that moves, on which the needle is attached. The other stem must be removed, it is not needed. At the same time, we lubricate all moving parts, since the loads on the sewing machine will already be larger.

Step two. Machine frame manufacturing
We make a frame for the machine, first you need to assemble a frame like a regular table, only strong. As a material we use profile pipes.

Next, you need to make a bed, that is, that part of the frame on which we will install the part from the sewing machine. The bed must be strong, as the machine will be held by only two bolts. As a material, the author uses a piece of channel. We cut off, weld the mounting ears and securely weld the channel to the frame. After that, it will be possible to fix the sewing machine on the frame.

Step three. Fastener
We make a fastener with which we will install hacksaw blades. We need round timber, we drill a hole in it for the stem of the sewing machine, as well as a hole for the mounting screw.

It remains to make a retainer for the knife, cut a slotted hole in the workpiece with a hacksaw, and then insert the knife into the slot and weld the slots from the outside so that the saw has something to rest against. But when welding, you need to ensure that the saw itself does not weld.
We will clamp the canvas with two bolts, drill holes for them and cut the threads.

Step four. Emphasis
For hacksaw blade you need a stop, otherwise it will vomit when cutting. The emphasis must be welded to the frame. Here we need a piece of round timber, the author made a drink in it and welded it in its place. To reduce friction and increase the life of the machine, it is better to replace this part with a bearing.

Step five. Engine installation
We install the engine to understand where it should be, install the belt. The fastening part is very simple, it is a piece of sheet iron, which is welded to the frame on racks of the required length. Racks are made of thick iron plates. The engine itself is held on a clamp, it is pressed against the base, the clamp is an iron plate with two threaded studs that are welded to the base.

Step six. table top
We make a countertop, here we need plywood or OSB. The tabletop is simply screwed to the frame with self-tapping screws. Do not forget to make a hole for the cutting blade. After that, the machine will be almost ready, proceed to painting.

Step seven. Painting and assembly
We paint our machine, blow out everything rusting with a can, now the machine looks great. We also paint the countertop. After painting, the machine can be assembled, we fasten part of the sewing machine to the frame, and also fasten the countertop.

We install the engine, near it the author installed a capacitor with plastic ties. We also install a switch, the author has a keyboard type, it is convenient to use. We run the cable along the frame and fix it with plastic ties so that it does not interfere.

Probably in almost every family, by inheritance from a grandmother, an old hand (or foot) sewing machine is lying around. No one will sew on it anymore, but it’s a pity to throw it away - the thing is working.

It is from such a sewing machine that you can make a manual jigsaw for cutting plywood, balsa and plastic. From additional materials you will need a file for curly cutting from a jigsaw. (You can buy such a file in a tool store for 15-20 rubles). It takes about 20 minutes on average to convert an old sewing machine into a manual jigsaw.

Such a jigsaw will be very useful for a lover of DIY crafts, a modeler, or just for a lover to put his hands on wooden dies and make a necessary and useful thing out of them!

By the way, using the technology described below, you can also make an electric jigsaw. To do this, you just need to take an old electric sewing machine as a basis.

The procedure for refurbishment is as follows:

1. We remove the thread weaving mechanism (it stands at the bottom), unscrew the two bolts.
2. We remove the drive shaft of the thread weaving mechanism, for this we knock out the cotter pin.
3. We unscrew the panel (again a couple of bolts) that covers these mechanisms and in the place of the hole where the needle passes with a file, we cut the slot to the size of a jigsaw file.
4.Now you need to prepare the file:
4.1) cut off its top so that the length is like that of a sewing machine needle.
4.2) with a file, grind the teeth at the top until a continuous web appears at the length of the base of the needle.
4.3) with reverse side we also grind the files to the thickness of the base of the needle.
4.4) we sharpen the lower part of the peak on the tip

5. Now insert the file into the needle holder of the sewing machine.
6. Turning the wheel of the sewing machine makes sure.
- that the file does not touch the foot and the panel.
- that plywood enters under the saw in the upper position of the mechanism.
-that the broach mechanism is working, and set the broach speed convenient for work.

That's the whole change. Now you have a machine for cutting plywood, plastic and balsa, which is so necessary in our business of do-it-yourselfers.

Sewing machine base

Electric jigsaw speed controller.

The advantage of this design is primarily its simplicity, since the drive does not even have a belt drive. This model cuts boards up to 50 mm with ease. The jigsaw will consist of 2 parallel wooden levers mounted on a rigid wooden frame. At one end they are connected by a strong nylon cord, and at the other by a stretched file. Due to a pair of eccentrics, the file will perform reciprocating movements, since this pair of rotating weights is attached to the lower arm, which swings on the axis of the support block with a plain bearing. As a drive, it is most convenient to use a serviceable motor from an old sewing machine. If the weights are eccentrically fixed on the axis, then each revolution of the motor shaft will provide a cycle of reciprocating motion of the file. By changing the dimensions of the fixed weights and the degree of tension of the nylon cord, the path of the saw can even be changed. Needed to make:

  • sewing machine motor
  • boards;
  • steel bar 20 mm in diameter, a threaded bolt is well suited;
  • a steel strip for making loads, old clock weights are also suitable;
  • saw blade.

The body parts are made of 2 boards, sawn to size 20x250x800 mm, so that the holes match more precisely, they are first fastened together. When cutting out the contour, all the edges of the parts are rounded, except for those adjacent to the base. The distance from the attachment point to the axis of rotation for this tool is 6 mm longer at the upper arm. This allows you to increase the resource and work efficiency, since when moving up, the file moves back, and when moving down, it deviates forward. If the slope is reduced, the tool will cut more slowly, but the accuracy will increase.

The support axle is used to attach loads to it on both sides. Before the final tightening of the nut, make sure that the weights are installed symmetrically, since the cuts will be very sloppy if the reciprocating motion is uneven. Then the support block is installed on the lower arm, before the final fixing, it is necessary to check whether the weights of the arm do not touch during operation. The motor is connected to the jigsaw with a flexible rubber hose of sufficient length.

The upper and lower levers are installed on the frame, the saw blade holders are cut out at their ends and fixed with pins. The better the file is stretched, the faster, cleaner and smoother the sawing will be. You can use threaded studs, as in branded jigsaws, but stretching with a nylon cord is also quite effective.

  • A few words in conclusion

Homemade jigsaw. Sounds unreal. However, professionals have always been valued and in demand. Carpentry can be both the main income and a pleasant hobby. From the hands of a carpenter, wonderful products come out, unique and inimitable. V modern world, with its terrible ecology, each person is increasingly striving to surround himself with natural, natural materials. Handmade wooden things can be an exclusive, priceless gift.

The jigsaw can cut any sheet material along and across.

But in order to create all this magic, you will need not only high-quality wood, but also tools. A wide variety of wood jigsaws are sold in stores, but a real master will not be satisfied with such a tool. Because they are not suitable for performing truly delicate, jewelry work. There is only one way out - to make a jigsaw. If you have hands and a bright head on your shoulders, then this task is within your power.

There are several options for making such a tool: upgrade a purchased model or make it from improvised means. There are two types of wood jigsaws: manual and electric. The hand tool is a classic.

The jigsaw consists of an engine and a rocking chair with a saw.

For the motor, motors from a washing and sewing machine can be used. The body is made from plywood. It includes the base itself and the table. The box should be located between the base and the table, and on inside shelf-bracket and intermediate shaft. And on the reverse side there is a disk and a rocking chair.

The eccentric with the help of thrust has a connection with the rocking chair. The rod is made of steel plate. It's all connected with screws. The intermediate shaft should be installed on several bearings, they are closed with a cover to prevent dirt and sawdust from entering. The double-strand pulley is put on the shaft and fixed with screws. The eccentric of the jigsaw is also installed. Four holes are drilled on the eccentric flange. Due to this, the stepped screw will change position. Accordingly, the swing amplitude will change. A rocking chair is a wooden rocker in which you need to install a screw. And on the front side of the structure there are metal plates, with hinges, with the help of which files are attached. The file is placed in the slot of the desktop and clamped tightly.

Rocker arms in working condition often and strongly fluctuate, plates are subjected to excessive heavy loads. Therefore, it is necessary to pay due attention to the correct fastening of the saw. The plates must be securely fastened in the slots and tightly tightened. But the earrings that hold the files are installed in such a way that the screws do not clamp the halves too tight.

The main characteristics of household electric jigsaws.

The axis should get some freedom. The screw that tightens the rocker must necessarily have a small gap for the thrust screw. The rocking chair itself can be made from a bar. A groove is made on the upper side of the bar for the upper rocker arm. The rack can be made from halves or made composite.

Here are some of the crafts you can make yourself. Wood jigsaws are different, but better than that, which you make with your own hands can not be found. Such a tool will serve you faithfully for many years. This is a real help for the home master. How much can be done using this simple unit. But still, this device can be dangerous, therefore, before starting work, you should familiarize yourself with the rules for using the tool.

Safety precautions when working with a wood jigsaw

  1. Don't forget your protective suit, goggles and, of course, a respirator.
  2. Do not overload the tool, this causes a drop in speed.
  3. Do not leave the device plugged in unattended.
  4. Do not put down the jigsaw until it has come to a complete stop.
  5. It is forbidden to work with a defective tool.
  6. Under no circumstances should the material be handled. It must be securely fastened.

Tips for working with a homemade jigsaw:

  1. It is necessary to carefully monitor the condition of the files. Dull files perform their work poorly and poorly and give a harmful load to the drive.
  2. If it is necessary to make straight cuts, use files with a wide blade, this gives a perfectly even cut.
  3. As a result of pressing on the tool, the blade will overheat and inevitably become dull. You need to work smoothly and carefully.
  4. When cutting soft metals, wipe the blade with machine oil.
  5. When working with wood, use maximum speed.
  6. Keep track of the tool, its technical condition.

Working with wood will bring you a lot of pleasure and joy. Wonderful things are made from this material. You can make wonderful gifts and souvenirs for friends and relatives with your own hands.

If you have never used a wood jigsaw, then by all means test your strength. Everyone will benefit from this skill. home master. After all, not only various openwork decorative crafts are made with this tool, it is also indispensable during construction and repair work. It is a versatile tool in the workshop. The jigsaw effectively cuts not only wood, but also plastic, drywall, laminate, ceramic tile and even metal sheets. Its ease of use makes it an optimal cutting tool.

A jigsaw from a sewing machine, or use whatever is at hand and look no further

here's what I dug up -

The idea to make a jigsaw came to me many years ago, but I brought it to life much later - when someone threw out a faulty sewing machine manufactured by the Podolsk plant fell into my hands.

From the "insides" of the machine, he took only the main shaft and the "needle bar" assembly, and dismantled the rest of the parts. He cut off the front part of the platform, leaving only the thrust bearing under the L-shaped body. On the sandpaper, I grinded off all the tides on the lower surface. I drilled holes in the corners of the heel and through them I attached the inverted machine to the table top of the cabinet from below. By the way, I also used the pedestal from an old foot sewing machine. True, finding such a pedestal is perhaps more difficult than the machine itself, but it is not difficult to make it from a chipboard 20 mm thick. From above, the lid was closed with a steel sheet 1.5 mm thick (it can also be duralumin).

On the protruding end of the main shaft, I installed a pulley with a diameter of 80 mm for a V-belt drive (you can also take it from an old foot sewing machine, only it needs to be bored out under the V-belt) I installed a similar pulley, but with a larger diameter (100 mm) on the motor shaft. C) with a power of 180 W and a speed of 1350 per minute, together with a pulley, was used from an old washing machine
The electric motor was fixed on the lower platform of the pedestal, which was made of sufficiently strong bakelite plywood 20 mm thick, since there was no such platform-floor in the pedestal itself. In the platform, preliminarily, through the holes in the legs of the electric motor, I cut out oblong grooves - to move the motor in order to tension the drive belt. the sawing unit is difficult to manufacture, requiring some experience in working with metal. But it does not require precision (especially precise) execution, so you can also make its parts yourself, up to the file.

The sawing knot is shown in the figure. A mandrel with a slot made of a hexagon is put on the needle bar, which is fixed with locking screws. A file is inserted into the slot of the mandrel, on the shoulders of which a washer with a slot-like hole and a groove is first put on. did not break, a thrust roller assembly is provided. For this, a hole with dimensions of 65 × 13 mm is sawn in the lid. Above this hole, a plate is symmetrically attached to the cover with countersunk screws. A roller holder is installed under it. It is fixed with countersunk screws and a plate with two threaded holes. The plate must be flush with the surface of the lid, so you need to create a recess under the plate with a chisel.

The file is made of carbon steel, if there is no purchased one. The teeth are cut with a small file and needle files of the same shape as for longitudinal hacksaws. The teeth must have a divorce, but since they are very small, it is almost impossible to use a special tool for this purpose. Therefore, the saw blade must be clamped into small a vise, then with a beard and a hammer, light bending blows should be applied through the tooth. Then the file is turned over and the remaining teeth are bent in the same way. After sharpening, the teeth must be hardened.

It is more convenient and more productive to work on such a stationary jigsaw than with a manual electric one, especially with small workpieces. Yes, and the quality, in my opinion, is much higher.

    put electric jigsaw upside down

    the most reasonable, and compact, plus there is a swing of the file, I adapted my fiolent for myself, plus, it is easy to remove for other work. And if you do it, then with a rocker for a thin file, then you can cut it out.

    Oh Vasya, Vasya. what about the wood lathe?

    And what about a lathe, a lathe is being built.

    You can put a regular jigsaw upside down.

    Possible, but not an option for me

    Previously, they did it with compressors from the refrigerator. The key is to take it apart carefully. But with manual convenience, it lags behind. And if you do it manually, then it’s better to buy it, it’s very difficult to do it yourself.
    You can also make a ribbon, it's better than a stationary jigsaw.

    Vasya Nikonenko. Don't take on everything at once. Either you get tired of finishing what you started, or you give up all this nafig. Well, you will have the wrong experience and it will be difficult to work in the future due to the dispersion of forces on the unnecessary.

    And you can do anything that does not contradict the laws of physics. The question is should it be done?

    We make a jigsaw with our own hands or how to automate the workflow?

    Many DIYers at home use a jigsaw. The variety of these instruments is great. There are both manual and electric tools to choose from, with which you can do a variety of crafts. But, if there is no desire or opportunity to buy a jigsaw, is it then possible to do do-it-yourself jigsaw. The answer is yes, and not in one way. In this article, we will look at options for homemade jigsaws for home use.

    1. Making a jigsaw from a sewing machine
    2. Do-it-yourself jigsaw from a desk
    3. Buy or make your own?

    Making a jigsaw from a sewing machine

    Many inherited hand or foot sewing machines from their grandmother. No one will use them for their intended purpose, but it's a pity to throw them away. But from it you can make an excellent manual jigsaw for cutting plywood, plastic and balsa. Additional material only a jigsaw file will serve for alteration, and all the work will take no more than twenty minutes. The benefit of it will be for all lovers of crafting with their own hands. The conversion process is as follows:

    • The threading mechanism is removed. It is located at the bottom and is removed by unscrewing two bolts;
    • The cotter pin is knocked out and the drive shaft of the thread weaving mechanism is removed;
    • The panel that protects the mechanisms is unscrewed, and the slot in which the needle goes is expanded to the size of a file;
    • The saw is being prepared. To do this, it is cut off so that the length is like that of a needle. The upper teeth are filed off with a file, and the lower part of the file is ground off on the point;
    • The file is inserted into the needle holder.

    Note. If you take an electric machine as a basis, then you can make a jigsaw in the same way. After that, it is necessary to turn the wheel of the sewing machine and make sure that the saw does not come into contact with the foot and the panel, that the plywood passes freely, that the mechanism works properly. This completes the conversion. Now you have a homemade jigsaw machine, which is quite suitable for most jobs.

    Do-it-yourself jigsaw from a desk

    Another option, how to make a do-it-yourself jigsaw machine, is a little more complicated than the previous one, but it is also more practical and convenient. To do this, you need an electric jigsaw, which will make the job as easy as possible. To build a machine you need: any old desk, electric jigsaw (will serve as a power unit), manual jigsaw and plywood (for making arcs and rods).

    Note! As a power unit, you can use absolutely any model of an electric jigsaw.

    The process begins with the manufacture of a "swing", which at one end will be connected to the mechanism of an electric tool, and at the other - to hold the file. The electric jigsaw is fastened with screws under the table cover. The lid is made round hole so that the file moves freely in it, and dust and chips do not get stuck. The swing is installed above the power tool, and a file is fixed between them.

    At one end it is attached to a jigsaw, and at the other - on a wheel at the end of the swing. The start pedal is very easy to do. To do this, a product is formed from a metal plate with a hook at one end and a fastener at the other. The hook is put directly on the start button of the instrument, and the other end is attached to a wooden plank that will serve as a pedal.

    Buy or make your own?

    Homemade jigsaws can be made most different ways and different in design. The most common is the conversion of an electric saw into a machine for work. To do this is quite simple, its design is similar to the above. But you must always consider what material (thickness, dimensions) will be processed. If these are thick materials, then you need to calculate the working space so that they fit there. This point is also important in terms of choosing a file.

    Important! If you are counting on large amounts of work, then a home-made machine will be ineffective for you.

    Homemade machine designs range from the simplest to the most complex. I want to give advice: do not invent super complicated mechanisms, because it will take a lot of your time and require a lot of capital investment, so homemade apparatus loses all meaning. If you need a professional, powerful tool, then it is better to buy it right away. And for simple home crafts and simple tasks the simplest machine will suffice.
