I offer my version of the design of the chair-bed, on the basis of which you can make a new chair or remake an existing one. At my disposal was the old one, from the set upholstered furniture"Narspi". His modification was as follows. The seat at the chair (Fig. 1) at an angle - I had to make it horizontal. Below it, two slats 4 are screwed to both sides of the chair, which serve as guides for the retractable part of the lounger. To increase the rigidity of the main structure of the sidewall of the chair, I connected the transverse bar 2 and the back panel 5 (the existing back of the chair was used). Connection - with the help of furniture corners and screws. Retractable parts were assembled separately.
Essential elements
To remake the chair, you will need wooden bars, three aluminum corners, two metal plates, four ball bearings-wheels, metal or furniture corners.
The length of the chair in the unfolded state is 1.75 - 1.8 meters, which is quite enough for an adult.
The chair-bed (Fig. 1) consists of the chair itself, sections 1 and 8 pulled out from under it and stacked pillows. On the guide rails 4 (600x40x20 mm bars on the sides of the chair), the second section 8 is first pulled out, then the first pull-out section 1 is pulled out of it. Pillows 6 are placed on both extended frames. I used those that were on the old chair; but they are easy to make specially from foam rubber and decorative fabric.

The frame of the second pull-out section (Fig. 2) is assembled from two longitudinal bars 1, to which three crossbars 2 are screwed. two wooden bosses 3, to which ball bearings-wheels 7 are attached. To limit the extension of the frame, an aluminum corner 5 is screwed to the last cross member.
The frame of the first retractable section 8 (Fig. 3) is also assembled from two longitudinal bars 1, to which four upper crossbars 2 and one lower (front) crossbar 3 are screwed, on which the retractable frame 1 rests. Two legs 4 are attached to it, to which ball bearings-wheels are attached. To prevent excessive extension, metal plates 6 are screwed to the last cross member.
As guides for extending the frame 1, two aluminum corners 5 are used, screwed to the longitudinal bars 1.
Sunbed formation
The drawings show the diagrams of the pull-out sections, as well as the chair-bed in the “bed” and “chair” positions. The seat cushions in the extended position are located above the seat of the chair itself, so an ordinary down pillow is placed on the seat.

In figure 1A, the chair-bed is in the “bed” position without the cushions of the chair. As can be seen from the figure, the extended part of the chair is lower than the seat of the chair itself. To compensate for the difference in the height of the retractable frames, shields are laid on them, which are stored separately during the day.
Now some explanations for the design. In figure 2, corner 5, as already mentioned, serves to prevent excessive extension of the frame. The same role is played by thrust plates 6 in Figure 3.
Front wall 4 in Figure 2 is a chipboard covered with furniture fabric. It is used from the chair itself, therefore the connection with it of the longitudinal bars and bosses 3 is made using regular furniture corners.

In figure 3, the lower bar-crossbar 3 (570x50x30 mm) and the boss 4 for the wheels, in order to increase rigidity, are additionally connected with squares 8 used to strengthen window frames: they are sold in any hardware store, so I do not indicate the dimensions.
The operation of the chair-bed showed some weak spots, and therefore, in particular, it was necessary at the retractable frame 8 (Fig. 3) to additionally strengthen the cross member 3 and legs 2 with metal squares 8, and to connect the cross member 3 itself with the slats 1 metal corners 7.

For marking parts, a large metal or wooden ruler, tape measure, sharp pencil. To assemble the frame parts, you need to have screws and glue.

Case manufacturing
Based on the diagram, we cut out the parts of the chair body and the folding part, we take the dimensions of all parts from the drawing. We cut out 4 squares from plywood. 3 pieces will go to the sleeping part, one will go to the back. The cut can be done with a hacksaw or a jigsaw.
Cutting bars:
- 6 pieces for the longitudinal part of the bed;
- 7 pieces for crossbars;
- 4 pieces for folding legs.
Mark the connection points of the parts and drill holes with a drill. From the chipboard we cut out the armrests, which are bolted to the main part of the structure. All parts are fixed with furniture screws into pre-prepared holes of a smaller diameter. Foam rubber is glued to the sides, back, details of the bed.

The disadvantages include the fact that the assembled model with a roll-out mechanism looks bulky, but its reliability and the presence of a laundry box justify the choice.

The pieces cut to size are 20 cm thick. The next step is to cut the fabric. During work, it is important not to forget about the seam allowances, they should be at least 2 cm, where the zipper will be sewn in, the allowance is larger - 3 cm.
When sewing parts, use tape for strength and durability of the seams.
Take the time and money - sew 2 types of covers. Some of them are drafts made of inexpensive blended fabric, the second ones are elegant made of high-quality upholstery fabric. You will get several rectangular blanks folded in half, they are equal to the size of the foam rubber blanks. The parts are assembled into a single design with the help of zippers sewn into the covers. You will need 7 zippers, each 80 cm long.
