Lamp infrared heating systems

The principle of operation of a lamp infrared heater is similar to the action of solar radiation. Other heating devices, such as halogen heaters, also belong to devices that work in a similar way.

The device of this type of infrared heater is quite simple. In a medium filled with an inert gas, a nichrome spiral is placed, wound on a core made of a heat-resistant material, which can be ceramic. The passing current provokes the occurrence of the effect described by the Joule-Lenz law.

The amount of heat released in this case depends on several factors:

  • Stresses between the start and end points of the spiral.
  • The resistance of the material from which the spiral is made.
  • The time during which the current flows.

The high resistance of nichrome enhances the effect.

Gradually, the spiral heats up and active radiation begins in the infrared range. The temperature for the appearance of the glow effect should reach about 500 ° C, however, heating often occurs to higher temperatures.

Radiation without significant losses passes through an inert gaseous medium to the glass bulbs of heater lamps. The lamps themselves are made of an alloy of quartz sand, which perfectly transmits waves that are in the operating range. Thus, there are practically no losses in infrared heaters.

It should be noted that most of the lamps of infrared heaters are located symmetrically with respect to their axis. This means that the radiation power in any direction is the same. To correct the direction of the heat flow, infrared lamps are placed at the focus of a reflector made of heat-resistant metal that reflects radiation well.

Choosing heaters for the bath

An ideal reflector for infrared heaters could be applied to outside silver glass bulbs, which, due to the high cost and fragility of such lamps, naturally did not receive mass distribution.

In the central part of the lamp infrared heater is the so-called dead zone, which is formed by the lamp itself. However, such nuances do not detract from the advantages of lamp infrared heating systems.

Such a solution, however, is unacceptable for several reasons:

  • A spiral in a vacuum would become thinner due to the evaporation of the material from which it is made.

    This is explained by the action of gravitational forces. And on Earth, under the action of gravity in a vacuum, the atoms of the material of the spiral will leave the hot surface, which will result in the impossibility of long-term work. According to studies and calculations, some evaporated particles can settle on the inner surface of the glass bulb, reducing the efficiency of the device - the resulting opaque mirror surface will become an obstacle to thermal radiation.

    The inert gas and special additives in the lamp prevent the evaporation process and contribute to the return of evaporated particles to the surface of the spiral.

This explains the need to fill the cavity of the lamp with an inert gaseous substance. Slightly reducing the efficiency of the device, the gas is selected taking into account bandwidth for maximum delay of useful radiation.

Moreover, the thickness of the gas inside the lamp is very small compared to the thickness of the layers of the surrounding atmosphere.

Thus, without heating the surrounding air, the device consumes almost all the energy allocated to it for heating nearby surfaces. Gas infrared heaters

The principle of operation of an infrared heater operating on the principle of a fireplace is no more complicated than the operation of the systems described above.

Externally, such a heater looks like a rectangular metal case, with an infrared sauna lamp inserted into it, somewhat reminiscent of a fluorescent lamp.   • Carbon heating element is a quartz tube with a built-in carbon spiral thread. The flask is completely sealed and devoid of air. The carbon thread is able to heat up to 3000 ° C without losing strength. Therefore, such equipment can be used for a very long time if it is of high quality.

The reflector plate, depending on the type of element, can be heated up to 250-600 °C, but the body itself does not get hotter than 60 °C.
