Do-it-yourself cultivator from a bicycle. How to make a hand cultivator with your own hands Homemade hand cultivator from an old bicycle

It is possible to make a cultivator with your own hands, only for this you need to be careful and clearly follow the step-by-step instructions.

Currently, the electric and motor cultivator is especially popular.

The article tells how to make a cultivator with your own hands quickly and correctly.

More about the cultivator

Gardeners will confirm that working with the earth is hard and tiring. The larger the area, the stronger it feels.

In stores, of course, you can find everything you need to make your work easier. One of the most popular attachments is the soil cultivator.

This structure belongs to garden equipment, which is used before sowing and at the end of the summer season.

Usually, a cultivator plows the land, removes weeds, and feeds plants with fertilizers.

Currently, this device has become so popular that some make a homemade cultivator for a tractor.

The cultivator can be manual, gasoline or electric. Units differ in power and weight. Another cultivator is tilled, paw and rotary.

The first view can be controlled, its principle of operation depends on the model.

The tine structure can cut weeds, loosen the ground and fertilize the soil. If the device has cut-out discs, it can loosen the soil in clearings.

If the device has needle discs, it can destroy the soil bark and loosen the earth in the root zone of plants.

A cultivator equipped with rotary impellers loosens the soil and removes the grass.

In addition to manual devices, there are also electric ones. Their advantage is that such units are light and do not take up much space.

In addition, the device is powered by electricity, so you do not need to refuel it with gasoline. Electricity is also easier to maintain.

The disadvantages of the device is that the treated area is limited by the length of the power cord.

In addition, the tool does not penetrate very deep into the soil, it does not have a particularly high power.

The electric cultivator is not intended for processing a large area, but is only suitable for greenhouses and flower beds in the garden.

Many more complain that a hanging cable often interferes with the operation of the device.

A cultivator running on gasoline also has its pros and cons. Of the pluses, one can single out the fact that it is not limited by a wire and is multifunctional.

As for the shortcomings, it is worth noting here that the unit is difficult to maintain. In addition, it is suitable for plowing small areas.

This device needs to be filled with gasoline, and the mass of the device is more than electric.

The manual type unit is also popular. As its advantages, one can note the ease of operation, the absence of stress on the lower back.

In addition, this device is inexpensive, but at the same time it works much faster than a conventional shovel. In addition, such a cultivator does not need to be additionally lubricated or change parts.

In addition, the structure is also compact, and when plowing, weeds are not scattered over the entire area. Another device loosens the earth, but does not turn it over.

As disadvantages, low productivity can be noted compared to other types of cultivators. In addition, manual construction is intended only for work in greenhouses.

Depending on the model, the cultivator may have interchangeable trimmer heads.

How to make cultivators yourself?

A manual cultivator with your own hands can be made in a fairly short time. For example, there is a Tornado device, which looks like a corkscrew with a handle.

Such a unit can be easily made from the pitchfork that everyone has in the barn. In addition to the pitchfork, you will also need a plastic nozzle on the handle in the form of a handle and a plastic pipe about 0.5 m long (in this case, the diameter of the pipe must be greater than the diameter of the handle).

The pipe must be cut to length, unscrewed and put on the handle. A piece of the tube must be wrapped with tape or tape to make it convenient to work.

After that, the pitchfork must be made in the form of a corkscrew. To do this, take a hammer and hit the teeth of the fork. At the same time, it is necessary that there is a photo of the finished instrument at hand in order to avoid mistakes.

Apart from homemade device from a pitchfork, there is also a chainsaw cultivator - in fact, it can be called a home-made cultivator for a walk-behind tractor.

It can also be made with your own hands, only this design is much more complicated, so not every fan will be able to do it.

To make such a structure, you will need the following tools:

  • fuel tank;
  • rubberized wheels;
  • metal corner;
  • pipe;
  • a leading star from a moped;
  • intermediate shaft sprocket.

First you need to weld the frame for the walk-behind tractor using a metal corner. Then, the engine must be fixed to the upper part of the transverse corners, and the fuel tank must be attached to the bottom.

After that, it is necessary to install supports for the intermediate shaft. Next, the cultivator supports are attached to the longitudinal corners to secure the bearings.

The center of gravity of the walk-behind tractor rests on the wheels, making the structure easier to manage. We should not forget about the handles - for them you need to take a pipe made of metal.

Asterisks from a moped will be needed for the stable operation of the running and intermediate shafts.

It is necessary to adjust the operation of both shafts depending on the size of the cultivator and the intended use.

Next, you need to assemble all the components of the device and check the operation of the unit. One of the advantages that a do-it-yourself cultivator for a walk-behind tractor has is its unpretentiousness to lubrication - you can use any.

They often make a homemade cultivator for a mini tractor. Before work, you need to stock up on tools.

To make a cultivator for a mini tractor with your own hands, you will need the following devices:

As for the materials, you will need the following:

  • bolts with nuts;
  • steel pipe;
  • steel plates 12 by 4 cm in the form of a rectangle (for cutters);
  • steel plates in the form of a square 15 by 15 cm.

The first step is to make a hole in each square plate.

Then each plate in the form of a square must be connected to a rectangular one using bolts. It is necessary to make sure that there is one cutter on each side of the square plates.

When all the plates are connected, you need to make holes in them. Their size will depend on the diameter of the steel pipe.

Then a pipe is threaded through the holes (before that, it must be cut into halves), putting cutters on it.

The finished unit must be fixed with bolts or by welding. At the end, all parts of the cultivator are connected to the shaft from the minitractor.

Do-it-yourself cultivator (video in the article) is quite easy to assemble if you carefully follow the instructions and do not be distracted during work.

Suppose you have land plot. You want to work it with a cultivator that you don't have. Otherwise, you simply wouldn't be here. You probably want to make such a unit yourself for some reason known to you, whether it is the lack of money for a factory cultivator, or just an interest in making such a machine yourself. In this case, you are lucky, if you have a 1.5-2 kW electric motor, a gearbox, then you can easily make a cultivator with your own hands in just a day or two.

Do-it-yourself cultivator: where to start and how to do it

The main parts of a homemade cultivator are a gearbox and an engine. First of all, we make the frame of the future cultivator, drill holes for installing the main components, and make handles for controlling the unit from two curved pipes with a diameter of 32 mm. Between the homemade handles, it is necessary to put another pipe, which will be like a spacer for us, increasing the strength of the structure. To one of the handles, we will later install the start button.

For the manufacture of the shaft, I used unnecessary scrap, welded an asterisk from the camshaft of the VAZ engine to it, and scalded the chain and both sprockets with metal, making a cover.

I connected a three-phase motor by standard scheme“triangle”, place the capacitor starter button on the handle to make it more convenient.

Grousers for a homemade cultivator

Our cultivator has to drive somehow. Choose the right wheels. Remember that small wheels will get stuck in the ground and interfere with work. Too big wheels for a homemade cultivator will be hard to turn. The selected wheels are fixed on steel corners, which are placed on the gear housing. Attach wheels to your homemade mechanism- That's not all. Attach lugs to the wheels. With the help of them, the cultivator will better bite into the ground.

Take car springs or just corners and cut out the hooks of the desired diameter from them. For maximum effect, set the hook angle to 120°.

When you finish working with connecting all the details, you can use the hand-made cultivator with your own hands for several years. If you want the machine to just break the whole earth into large chunks, you will need to go faster with it. A lower speed of passage grinds the earth into the smallest particles - it all depends on the speed of work with the cultivator. Before using it, lubricate the mechanism shaft with oil so that the homemade product lasts longer without breakdowns.

By the same principle, you can also take an engine from washing machine. Disassemble children bicycle and adapt sprockets and a bicycle chain to your unit. The result is such a self-made electric cultivator. True, if you decide to make this unit with your own hands, keep in mind that the wire will constantly get under your feet and interfere. Due to the fact that the power of the mechanism depends on the network and cable, you will not go further than its length will allow.

For a complete picture of what awaits you after you decide to make a motor cultivator with your own hands, you can watch the video compilation with a home-made unit.

How to make a cultivator with your own hands: simpler options

There is such a cultivator - "Nimble kid". Let's see how you can make one at home.
Take a wooden axle. It will become the connecting element for the rest of the parts. On this axis it is necessary to fix a pipe 24 mm in diameter. It will serve as a handle, so in order not to bend three deaths, choose the length of the pipe for your height.

Attach wheels with a diameter of not more than 200 mm to the mentioned axle. the cultivator will rest on the wheels, the height of the tool above the ground depends on the height of the wheels that we have adapted to it. By the way, the wheels need to be cut out of metal 2-3 mm in thickness. After you have connected everything indicated, you can work on the ground.

The word cultivator means not only motor units. You can also use hand tools in your country house. It is much better than a standard hoe and much easier to make at home than a motor cultivator. Have you heard of the Tornado cultivator? It looks like a defective pitchfork.

A round axle to which twisted teeth are welded in a spiral. Such a tool is easiest to make from existing pitchforks, if you don't mind. If you still need your pitchfork, buy others in the store and make a Tornado out of them. Believe me, it is cheaper to buy a pitchfork and remake it than to buy a ready-made cultivator. Take a hammer and go over the teeth, let them be bent in a spiral.

Homemade cultivator "Tornado"

Tornados are easy to use thanks to the lever that the operator grabs when scrolling the cultivator into the ground. For the lever, we need a pipe that we need to attach to the handle. The pipe should be 50 cm in length. For fastening, you can take electrical tape. As a pipe, you can use a nozzle on the handle, which is usually equipped with shovels. Such a lever will protrude 25 cm on both sides of the handle.

You can make a Tornado cultivator from springy steel. We take a plate half a meter long, 1-1.5 mm in thickness and 2 in width. Bend the steel, make a loop out of it, which you put on the handle. Watch the height of the cutting. It is important to observe the diameter of the resulting loop - it should not be more than 20 cm in diameter in order to freely enter the aisles.

There is another version of the cultivator - rotary disc. Just be warned that you will need to make a lot of physical strength to make the desired bulging discs. put ordinary metal discs and hit them with a hammer. In the process, they should become cup-shaped.

The main part of the mechanism - and these are the discs, we put on the sleeve, which we attach to the axle. We attach both ends of the axle with cotter pins on a large bracket.

On a large bracket we make a hole where we insert a pipe with handles and a crossbar between them.
We place a rod on a small bracket using a welding machine. It should be 24 mm in diameter and 25 cm in length. Then we screw a 16-diameter rod into the stem.

As you know, in order to prepare the soil for sowing, you first need to cultivate it well. It was for these purposes that such an indispensable and necessary device as a cultivator was created in the last century. This mechanism will perfectly cope with the functions assigned to it and will greatly facilitate the work of the owners. However, modern devices of this type cost a lot, so it would not be out of place to think about how to make a cultivator with your own hands. But first you need to figure out what advantages this device has.

Advantages of manual cultivators

Similar mechanisms in Lately have become quite widespread. Moreover, it is much more profitable and, of course, more pleasant to construct a cultivator with your own hands, without spending extra financial resources on factory equipment.

These devices have a number of advantages. So, with their help, you can cultivate the soil even in the most inaccessible places, where any other equipment will not be able to complete its task. With the help of a cultivator, you can perfectly loosen the earth in the area of \u200b\u200bthe fences, on flower beds and alpine slides. Such treatment will allow the plants to receive a sufficient amount of oxygen and, of course, will positively affect their growth.

For small area a hand cultivator is perfect. It will not be difficult to make this mechanism with your own hands, and there will be many benefits from such a device, since the sharp teeth will easily cope with a hardened crust where heavy equipment cannot pass. This will be a great addition to your garden equipment and will allow you to forget about tedious work forever.

Types of cultivators

The main parameters by which it is customary to separate these mechanisms are weight and power. In accordance with this, there are several varieties of cultivators:

Criteria for choosing a cultivator

In order to design a cultivator with your own hands, it is important to take into account the factors that will affect the functionality of the equipment itself.

So, the main criteria for choosing these mechanisms are the following:

  • Power. The higher this indicator, the more more speed and the cultivator will work at a greater depth. In addition, do not forget about such a factor as the capture strip. If it is wide, then labor productivity will increase, and processing time will be less.
  • Weight. As a rule, the mass of equipment is directly proportional to the power of the cultivator.
  • The material from which the knives are made. This element is the main cutting part of the device, so you should not save on its quality. In addition, good steel significantly increases the service life of this functional part of the cultivator.
  • Equipment reliability. Depending on the type, the model may have its advantages and disadvantages, and the most reliable way to verify the practicality of a particular device is only during its use.

Making a manual cultivator

You can make a homemade cultivator with your own hands in two ways: using a pitchfork and using a bicycle frame. Both of these methods are not particularly complex and are quite easy to perform.

The first option involves the use of a pitchfork, the teeth of which should be bent like a corkscrew, and then put on a holder made of plastic. As a handle, you can use a pipe made of the same material, fixed on the upper side.

Creating a do-it-yourself cultivator from a bicycle frame is somewhat more difficult, but absolutely realistic. In order to build this mechanism, you will need to use:

  • bicycle frame;
  • wheel;
  • material intended for the head device; it can be sharp rods, part of a plow, part of an old cultivator, etc.

First you need to fix the wheel and head, and the part responsible for controlling the mechanism can be made from the steering wheel. All parts of the device must be welded together and tightly fixed with bolts. With such a sample, there will be no problems in operation, and its repair is very simple.

Creating a toothed cultivator

To build such a mechanism, you will need to have the following materials available:

  • 5 discs made of steel with a diameter of 30-35 cm;
  • a rod of the same material with a diameter of 10 mm;
  • special axle 32 cm long and 15 mm in diameter;
  • holder made of wood or plastic.

Disks need to be equipped with special holes designed for sharp teeth. These cutting elements are made of steel rod. Then the disks need to be mounted on an axle, from the edges of which trunnions and bearings must be equipped.

The work of such a cultivator takes place according to the following principle: the sharp teeth of the device, piercing into the ground, remove the layer of soil, thereby loosening it. This not only allows oxygen to penetrate deeper, but also helps to remove small weeds. In the event that one of the teeth of the mechanism is damaged, it can always be dismantled and replaced with a new one using a welding machine.

Rotary disc cultivator device

When making, for example, a cultivator for, it is possible to design a special disk apparatus that serves to remove weeds, break up clods of earth, loosen, etc. The main difficulty during the installation process may arise with the device of disks, which should not have a flat, but a convex shape. To achieve this, you can use a hammer, hitting the workpiece several times to give it the desired look.

The process of creating such equipment is non-standard, it differs in some features and should proceed as follows:

  1. The discs must be welded to the bushings mounted on the axle, and their ends should be tightly fixed in brackets.
  2. In the largest of them, it is necessary to equip a ledge through which a pipe equipped with a crossbar must pass.
  3. Next, a rod is welded to the smaller of the brackets. It is necessary to screw a rod into it, part of which must necessarily protrude above the crossbar.

Having correctly completed all the steps, creating such a cultivator with your own hands will not be difficult.

The process of manufacturing a cultivator for a walk-behind tractor

Very often, this mechanism is used on such an economic vehicle as a walk-behind tractor. Thanks to this, the process of tillage will become easy and will not take much time.

In order to design a cultivator for, you must have the following construction tools available:

  • disk type complete with disks to it;
  • welding machine;
  • 2 emery elements with varying degrees of abrasiveness;
  • drill.

Materials for manufacturing should be as follows:

  • created from a plate, having a square shape and a section of 15x15 cm;
  • rectangular elements with parameters 12x4 cm, made of the same material (for mechanism cutters);
  • steel pipe;
  • fasteners (bolts and nuts).

You need to design a cultivator with your own hands for a reduced type tractor as follows:

  1. Each of the squares should be equipped with a hole, and then connected on both sides with cutters using bolts and nuts.
  2. The resulting structure must be fixed to the base, and welding is not recommended, since it will not be possible to achieve the desired strength of the joints with its help.
  3. Similar actions must be performed with all squares.
  4. After manufacturing the working part, you need to make a hole that will match the diameter of the steel pipe.
  5. The part must be cut in half and then, by welding, fix the elements of the running mechanism with cutters on each of its sides.

On this, the manufacture of a cultivator for a walk-behind tractor can be considered completed. As it becomes clear, there is no particular difficulty in such work, but it is extremely important to strictly follow the procedure and acquire all necessary tools and materials.

Cultivator maintenance rules

How to make a cultivator with your own hands, we figured it out. However, it is important to know not only the algorithm of actions for its manufacture, but also the rules of operation. So, the main task is to maintain the efficiency of the driving mechanism. Before starting work with the device, you should first check the oil level. Here you should also not forget that the quality of the fluid used to lubricate engine parts largely affects the operation of the equipment, so it is important to replace it in a timely manner, preventing clogging internal parts device.

In the event that the equipment will not be used for more than one month, it needs to provide good conditions storage. To do this, you first need to work out all the gasoline, thoroughly clean the surface of the engine and all the functional parts of the mechanism. To avoid damage to the electric parts of the cultivator, it is not recommended to use strong water pressure for cleaning. For corrosion protection metal elements the device must be lubricated with a small amount of oil, and the cutters should be wiped with a rag soaked in it. Storage conditions include keeping the device in a dry and clean room.

Compliance with all the above operating rules will allow the equipment to serve for a long time, properly and without any serious damage.

With some skills, a do-it-yourself cultivator can be easily made from ordinary scrap metal or used parts from equipment. Such a home-made cultivator, of course, will be inferior in terms of productivity, but will greatly facilitate manual labor and many horticultural work.

Cultivator: purpose and characteristics of species

Cultivators are very convenient and popular agricultural implements used to perform surface loosening of the soil, as well as the destruction of weeds, fertilization and cutting furrows for irrigation. In the process of choosing a model of such equipment you need to follow the basic parameters:

  • relief features of the site;
  • useful area of the site;
  • qualitative composition and characteristics of the soil;
  • the scope and criteria of the assigned tasks.

Depending on the purpose, there are several main types of agricultural cultivators:

  • continuous tillage during pre-sowing tillage with simultaneous harrowing;
  • inter-row tillage and simultaneous fertilizing of cultivated crops with the main mineral fertilizers;
  • pre-sowing tillage, represented by loosening and layer-by-layer grinding of the soil, as well as the destruction of weeds, leveling and compaction of the soil.

Equipment can also be classified depending on the operating mechanisms:

  • electrical equipment used on small area household plots. Efficiency is provided by electricity. The equipment is light in weight, compact size and no ejection harmful substances into the environment. The disadvantages include low power and low mobility;
  • battery equipment designed for soil cultivation in small areas. Unlike electrical models is sufficient mobility while maintaining small dimensions;
  • gasoline equipment is the most popular due to its high performance. Such units are quite powerful, mobile and convenient. The main disadvantages of the application are represented by emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere, as well as the need to regularly perform competent maintenance.

Another type of garden equipment quite popular with owners of suburban real estate is a manual cultivator, represented by a simple design in the form of curved hook fingers or metal stars that are attached to a metal holder. Such homemade products allow summer residents to quickly and easily cultivate the soil, and for the manufacture you will need the correct drawings, a little time and improvised means.

How to make a cultivator with your own hands

Of course, reliable and high-performance devices cannot be cheap, so many gardeners and gardeners prefer to make simple but effective designs on their own. Properly made hand cultivators are economical, do not need refueling and are able to replace several devices at once, including a shovel, hoe and rake. Such devices take up a minimum of storage space.

Homemade disc rotary cultivator

It is not too difficult to make a disk rotary tool on your own, designed not only for cultivating the soil, but also for leveling the cultivated area. A properly assembled structure allows you to level the surface, harrow the site, and break up earthen clods. The main parts of the unit are represented by a disk, an axis, a bushing, large and small brackets, a rod, a pipe and a handle.

Spherical type working parts in the form of convex discs must be welded to the bushings that are put on the axle. With the help of a cotter pin, the axial ends are fixed in brackets. By means of a special ledge, a pipe is passed through a large bracket, as well as handles and a crossbar. The stem diameter is 2.4 cm with a length of 25 cm. Such a part is welded onto a small bracket. A rod with a section of 1.6 cm must be screwed inside the stem, which should partially protrude above the surface of the crossbar.

The main difficulty in manufacturing the unit is represented by the need to give the discs a neat spherical shape with the help of sufficiently strong hammer blows. The angle of the disc installation relative to movement must be adjusted using the wing nuts that are attached to the crossbar.

How to make a Tornado cultivator with your own hands: drawings and manufacturing steps

In the horticultural market, a relatively simple, in terms of design, but quite effective device called the Tornado cultivator is increasingly common. Such a unit is a kind of corkscrew, mounted on a vertical stand and having a horizontal handle.

It is easiest to make such a variant of manual equipment on your own using ordinary garden forks and a plastic nozzle-handle for the handle. Phased technology manufacturing homemade unit Tornado is next:

  • prepare a segment plastic pipe, the length of which should be 50 cm;
  • the diameter of the plastic blank should slightly exceed the thickness of the plastic nozzle-handle;
  • the pipe must be carefully cut along, which will allow you to turn it out and put it on the handle, and then fix it with electrical tape;
  • a properly assembled handle has edges protruding on both sides of the handle by about a quarter of a meter;
  • the teeth on the forks must be given the corkscrew shape characteristic of the working unit using a conventional hammer.

The bends on the teeth should imitate the shape of the working part of the original Tornado cultivator as accurately as possible.

Homemade manual cultivator from a bicycle

To make a convenient and durable unit yourself using improvised means, you need to prepare an old bicycle frame and one wheel. phased way assembly of such an agricultural unit is as follows:

  • fix the cultivator head on the frame, which can be used as ready-made parts of the old device or a self-made structure based on steel bars;
  • install a frame, for which it is best to use a small plow;
  • such a home-made cultivator is controlled using a handle made on the basis of a standard steel pipe;
  • install a crossbar from a pipe with a diameter of 20-30 mm.

It is recommended to fix all parts of the structure assembled from a bicycle with a reliable bolted connection. To ensure ease of control, the unit is complemented by a medium-sized wheel, which is fixed with locknuts. This version of the cultivator is best suited for removing weeds between the beds.

How to make an electric cultivator

There are several options for manufacturing such a device, but the most popular variety is homemade electric cultivator based on the engine of a conventional meat grinder:

  • the gearbox and the electric motor are located on the frame;
  • the working parts of the mechanism are fixed on the output shaft of the gearbox;
  • the steering wheel and wheels are attached to the frame.

The device moves independently or in manual mode, using a pair of handles, on which the engine start button can be located.

A standard set of parts and materials required for the manufacture of an electric cultivator:

  • meat grinder engine;
  • tubes and corners;
  • medium-sized wheels from a bicycle;
  • screw and crowbar;
  • welding machine, hammer, pliers and a set of keys.

Technology self-manufacturing:

  • adjust the parts to the size of the engine from the meat grinder and assemble the frame;
  • weld a couple of corners on the gearbox housing;
  • weld a pair of pipes to the corners on the gearbox;
  • bend the ends of the welded tubes for the convenience of gripping the handles and weld the transverse bar to stiffen;
  • grind a shaft from scrap and fix the cast-iron bushing of the meat grinder, then weld a screw that acts as a grouser.

When moving a home-made electric cultivator at high speed, by means of a screw, the soil is broken into large lumps. In the process of slow movement, the rolled soil acquires a finer structure. The performance of this design is about three acres at a time. Average indicators of electricity consumption vary within 2 kW.

How to choose the right cultivator in the store

The process of choosing such a technically complex product as an agricultural cultivator does not cause difficulties, but requires mandatory consideration of the following nuances:

  • the power parameters of gasoline models are expressed in horsepower, and electric ones in kW;
  • the standard range of power indicators, regardless of the type of engine, is 4-8 hp, but the optimal and most economical power is 6.0-6.5 hp.
  • the width of the grip is determined by the distance between the leftmost and rightmost cutter, but in amateur models it is limited to 85 cm.
  • the presence of four or more milling cutters in the working body of the equipment makes it possible to change the working width in the direction of decreasing and increasing;
  • in the medium-static mechanism, the value of the depth of soil cultivation is most often 330 mm, but if necessary, more or less productive models can be selected;
  • a significant part of low-power and light models is equipped with one standard gear, which allows you to move forward, and a small effort helps to turn the unit in the direction necessary for work;
  • on heavier models, the presence of a reverse gear is a necessity that allows you to give heavy equipment the right direction;
  • the engine can be in two-stroke and four-stroke design, which has a direct impact on the power of agricultural equipment.

It should be noted that two-stroke motors are easier to maintain, but quite noisy. When choosing factory models, it is also necessary to remember that the flat cutter exclusively cuts all the seedlings that have just hatched, and the use of loplashes allows you to make a kind of kneading from the ground.

How to make a cultivator with your own hands (video)

The most popular and highly productive models of cultivators are sold at a fairly high cost, but are equipped with a whole set of interchangeable working bodies, which makes their use convenient and multifunctional. However, the presence of a relatively small area for processing makes it possible to use self-made, practical units.

What is a hand cultivator? This is a device for cultivating the land with the help of mechanical devices and hand strength. As diverse is the work of caring for beds and flower beds, there are also many hand tools created by oneself and industrial way. It is customary to consider cultivators for manual use soil rippers, with a grip of no more than 20 cm, on a long or short handle.

Why do we need cultivators

Even the most technically saturated site will not be well-groomed if the hand of a person with a narrow tool does not walk along it, which will loosen the ground next to plants and flowers, break the soil crust and expose, tear the roots of weeds. This tool is called a hand cultivator and its purpose is:

  • loosen the soil, ridding it of the crust and saturating it with air oxygen;
  • cut furrows for sowing plants, and then sprinkle the new plant;
  • save cultivated plants from the neighborhood of weeds;
  • perform smoothing of the surface with the breaking of lumps - harrow.

These are not all functions of cultivators. A tool with a comfortable grip, sometimes with handles and a wheel, is used for cultivating the land on a par with electric or gasoline-powered cultivators.

Varieties of working bodies of cultivators

Always in operation, a manual cultivator for giving, such as in the photo.

Among the many shapes and sizes of tools, they are classified into several types according to the shape and functions of the working body. So, a pitchfork with curved horns, winding the roots of the ubiquitous wheatgrass around itself, was invented relatively recently, and was named for the effect of combating malicious perennials.

Of the new tools, it is possible to note engineer Fokin's flat cutters, with three-sided sharpening of a narrow strip of tool steel. They have a rectangular handle, an adjustable working angle, and can remove any weed from a narrow crevice. Loop-shaped such rippers - weeders cut the roots at a depth and do not turn over the top layer of soil, keeping the mulch on the surface. Toothed hand cultivators, on the contrary, are needed for loosening the top layer.

Rotary cultivators are used for loosening, weeding. They are efficient, requiring little effort to propel the stargazer. Miniature arrowheads on curved shafts are excellent rippers and are often mounted on homemade tools with hand-drawn wheels.

So, according to the shape of the working body, cultivators divide;

  • flat cutters and loops;
  • serrated, with a flat, sharp and arrow-shaped end, from one to 7 links;
  • rotary, with a set of spinning stars;
  • straight vertical rods - raking tools.

Some models combine two functions, for example, a manual rotary cultivator with a looped weeder.

The well-known manufacturer of the preparation EM-1 Baikal for soil improvement has created a tool for tillage. Lamellar flat cutters of various widths, assembled in a set. Their difference is that the strip is sharpened on both sides and the work efficiency doubles. Handles for these flat cutters are selected separately. The goal is to cut the roots of weeds, which then destroy effective microorganisms.

Any summer resident dreams that he always has the right tool at hand. Therefore, they are bought, and their own designs are created based on known forms, but changing the dimensions, handle height, grip width.

How to make a manual cultivator with your own hands

Everyone can put a nozzle on the handle. We offer to build a manual cultivator with your own hands from an unusable bicycle and improvised means. The wheel is best taken from a teenage touring bike with a wide rim. Only front wheel with fork is used. The working part on the frame can be made in any way - with 2 rows of teeth, sprockets or a flat loop. Most importantly, in a manual cultivator, the frame must be strong with bolted stiffeners, connections with handles made from plain or glued wood. Instead of wood, light tubes made of non-ferrous metal can be used. A convenient and lightweight ripper is indispensable for processing wide row-spacings, near-trunk circles of trees.

Another equally effective hand tool will be a manual rotary cultivator. The main nodes in the drawing:

  • working elements of an asterisk or disks - 1;
  • axles for fastening working sprockets - 2;
  • bushings for assembling the assembly - 3;
  • connecting brackets, large and small - 5, 4;
  • frame rod, passing into the pipe and connected to the transverse handle - 6.7, 8.

The discs are spherical, they are created by forming. But with the same success, you can use the manual "hedgehogs", and use them to assemble the working body. Detail drawing do-it-yourself manual cultivator to help you.

Among the designs of homemade products, there are full-fledged walk-behind tractors created on the basis of chainsaws and other motor equipment. The value of these homemade devices for the owner is that he used improvised means and created a tool for his needs. On the other hand, the cost of factory models does not always allow you to buy a cultivator from a well-known reliable manufacturer. How else can you assemble a manual cultivator with your own hands, watch the video:

Getting to know factory-made cultivators

If the farmer does not have the opportunity to create an inexpensive effective assistant, Ukrainian engineers did it. Without engine, with one wheel and handles, simple design facilitates work on the site. One of the 6 work units is attached to the nest. Therefore, the device is called a universal manual cultivator Zemler 6 in 1.

The fixture weighs 9.5 kg, handling is good, female hands can easily handle the cultivator. The parts shown in the photo represent the working tools:

  1. Okuchnik, which is the main working tool. Cutting furrows, raking potatoes is done with the help of a hiller. But it is replaced in the kit by a disk ripper, which performs the same function as the hiller.
  2. The flat cutter with installed razor blades, which cut the roots of weeds, is adjustable according to the width of the rows with plants.
  3. The inter-row cultivator is used for loosening, cutting the grass. This tool has adjustable axial inclination and depth of lowering into the ground.
  4. There is a plow, it serves for cutting furrows when sowing seeds into the ground.
  5. They loosen the earth when a crust is formed with the stars that are included in the kit.
  6. The kit includes a furrow former, with it comes with a marker. The knot is used in sowing.

The factory design does not withstand work in heavy wet areas. Therefore, in the reviews of the masters there is advice to strengthen the wheel mounting frame and strengthen the handles with two rigid jumpers. The handles need to be slightly lengthened and made more comfortable.

It is worth paying attention to the design of Vinnitsa masters. It was called without frills - Manual cultivator "Universal dredger 5 in 1". The product costs 450 hryvnias, translated into Russian money 3000 rubles.

The following tools can be mounted in turn on the base frame:

  • row spacing;
  • plow with a marker;
  • razor;
  • cultivator.

As a result, there is a frame with a size of 64x30x30 cm with a hinged device. The nimble tool will become an indispensable tool for planting and hilling, weeding and loosening the garden.

We are accustomed to getting a harvest with hard work. The principles of smart farming suggest otherwise. Do not dig the soil unnecessarily, this violates its structure. Do not loosen the top layer deeper than 5 cm for the same reason. Do not weed the beds to the last weed. Mulch the soil more and more often and breed beneficial microorganisms in it. Labor will become easier, and the harvest will be greater.

It will clean the top layer of vegetation, cut the roots and fly furrows with an arrow. To raise the earth, nourish it with air, there is a ripper and a cultivator. They will also destroy the crust after watering or rain. The included markers will help you adjust the width of the attachments. The plow and furrow holder are indispensable spring tools.

The manual cultivator is composed of parts made of high quality steel. A strong keeled coulter determines the depth of tillage. The handles are comfortable to use and durable. The set of tools is optimal, and the dimensions are such that the cultivator will fit into any nook and cranny.
