Do-it-yourself door on rollers - easy to do, convenient to use. How to install sliding interior doors How to make a sliding interior door

There are times when it is not possible to install an ordinary swing door due to insufficient space or design features rooms (small area). Things and furniture can also interfere and prevent it from being allowed in normal mode (it does not open completely, etc.), then a door on rollers comes to the rescue, which you can install yourself.

This door opening mechanism has its pros and cons, which can be formulated as follows:

Advantages:

  • It can be used for any interior door, except for the option when it is completely made of glass.
  • Possibility to perform opening in both directions in relation to the doorway.
  • In small areas - makes it possible to use in a limited space.
  • Easy to operate, makes it possible for people with handicapped.
  • There is no sagging of the door panels during their operation.
  • Long terms of operation.
  • The ability to create systems that provide automatic operation.
  • No thresholds (for some models).

Disadvantages:

  • High cost, in comparison with swing analogues.
  • Low level of protection against heat loss and low sound insulation.
  • The possibility of using the wall surface in the direction of moving the door leaf is reduced (installation of furniture and household appliances, hanging elements of decor and decoration of the room space).
  • For heavy doors (solid wood, metal doors) the service life is significantly lower than when used with lightweight materials.
  • Not suitable for all types of interiors decorated in a certain style (Provence, Baroque, Empire).

How does a roller door work?

In order to understand how the roller mechanism works, you need to understand what it consists of.

All types of roller mechanisms have two main elements, these are:

  • Rollers placed on a specific structural element that has holes for fastening to the door leaf.
  • Guides on which the rollers move.

Rollers mounted on a specific structural element(straight insert or complex shape) are attached to the door leaf, the guides are mounted in the doorway.

The door leaf with fixed rollers is hung on the rails. With a mechanical action directed to the side in relation to the doorway, the rollers roll along the guides, thereby opening the door.

There are two ways to install the roller mechanism, these are:

  • Suspension system, when the rollers move along the guide, which is located at the top of the doorway and door leaf is in limbo.
  • Rail system, when the rollers move along the guides placed in the upper and lower (along the floor) parts of the doorway. The door leaf is fixed rigidly.

In addition to the main elements, in the design of the roller mechanism, door fixing devices, materials providing heat and sound insulation, as well as decorative elements covering the roller mechanism.

Doors can be equipped with a roller mechanism various types, such as: accordion, coupe, cascade and radius type. It can be single-leaf and multi-leaf structures.

Varieties of sliding doors

As already mentioned above, various types of doors can be equipped with a roller mechanism, therefore, in order to understand how they work, it is necessary to consider them all.

Type "accordion"

This type of door has a sliding-folding design, when when the door leaf is moved to the side, its components are folded.

Depending on the number of folding elements, doors of this type are also called "book", in this case two fragments are added. When talking about the type of "accordion" - there are more than two folding elements.

The folding elements of the door leaf are interconnected by means of a hinged joint, which ensures their mating.

Doors of the "accordion" type are single- and double-leaf.

Coupe type

In structures of this type, the door leaf moves along the wall along the guides installed on this wall.

Sliding doors are available in single and double doors. For double-leaf models, the sashes move in different directions with respect to the doorway.

A variation of this design can be cassette-type doors, when the guide is located inside the doorway and when opened, the door leaf moves into the interior of the wall.

Cascade type

In this design, the door leaf consists of several constituent parts, of which one part is fixed rigidly, and the rest (one, two or three parts) move along their own, separate guides.

The opening of the door occurs when all the parts are assembled on one side of the doorway, and the closing occurs when the components are evenly spaced along the doorway.

Radius type doors

This type defines their shape, which has a certain radius corresponding to the radius of the wall along which they move.

Structurally, these are coupe-type doors, but of a more complex geometric shape.

Do-it-yourself installation of roller doors can be divided into several stages, which require separate consideration, so that everyone who wants to do this work on their own does not make irreparable mistakes.

Preparation of materials for assembly and installation site

In order for the installation of the door equipped with rollers to be successful, and during operation there were no problems, it is necessary to perform, before starting installation work, a number of requirements, which are:

  1. The doorway must be even so that the door leaf overlaps it without overlap. If the door frame has a curved shape, you will have to use a larger door leaf.
  2. The structure of the door frame and the wall adjacent to it must be strong in order to withstand the weight of the mounted structure.
  3. Before starting installation, it is necessary to finish the doorway, because. otherwise, finishing will be difficult.

When preparatory work completed, it remains to prepare the materials necessary to perform the work:

  • To make a door leaf: wooden beam approx 50x50 mm, plywood or fiberboard, as well as a decorative coating (veneer or self-adhesive film).
  • Movement mechanism - rollers and guides.
  • Fittings and decorative elements.
  • Tools needed for the job: screwdriver, drill, chisel, screwdriver, hammer, wood saw or electric jigsaw.

Door leaf manufacturing

Making a blind type door leaf is quite simple, for this you need:

  • Take dimensions from the doorway;
  • Using a wooden block, it is necessary to cut blanks for the manufacture of the door frame. The size of the blanks must correspond to the removed dimensions of the doorway.
  • Horizontal frame ties (3 pieces) should be equal to the width of the doorway, vertical posts (2 pieces) - to the height of the opening.
  • On vertical bars, cuts are made, from the top and bottom, and a groove is drilled in the middle part, along the length corresponding to the width of the bar used.
  • On horizontal ties, a comb is made along the length corresponding to the width of the bar.
  • The assembly of vertical and horizontal bars is carried out according to the "groove - comb" principle, with the laying of wood glue or PVA glue.
  • For structural strength, in the middle of the connection, a hole is drilled through the connected bars, into which a wooden spike is inserted.
  • The prepared frame is sheathed sheet material(Fibreboard, plywood, etc.). For its fastening, wood screws or furniture nails are used.
  • When the frame is sheathed, a decorative coating is applied to its surface: the veneer is glued to wood glue or PVA glue, the self-adhesive film is glued to its adhesive base.

Hanging system installation

When the door leaf is ready, you can proceed with the installation and assembly of the suspension system. The work is carried out in the following sequence:

  • Depending on the design of the suspension system, the rollers can be installed on the edge of the door leaf, or with some indentation. The size by which you need to retreat, if necessary, manufacturers of such systems indicate in the accompanying documents.
  • The marking of the installation sites of the plates on which the rollers are mounted is carried out;
  • The attachment points are drilled, after which the rollers are mounted.
  • Guides are being installed:
  • Marking is made on the surface of the wall, so that the guide bar (rail) is higher than the doorway. The size of this indent depends on the rollers used and the design that supports them.
  • For ease of installation, a bar is used to which the guide is attached using self-tapping screws.
  • A beam with a guide is attached to the wall surface.
  • When the door leaf is equipped with rollers, and the guides are securely fixed to the wall surface, the door is hung. To do this, the rollers are inserted into the inner cavity of the guide - they are rolled onto the suspension system.
  • The suspension system is being adjusted. To do this, the design provides for adjusting bolts, which allows you to minimize the gaps in the horizontal plane between the door leaf and the guide, as well as adjust the bottom gap to the floor surface.
  • Fittings are installed, and the guide is closed with decorative elements.

How to choose the right hardware for roller doors

When using doors equipped with a roller-based suspension system, you cannot use fittings that are usually installed on hinged doors. This is due to the fact that the door leaf must move without touching the surface of the wall or niche into which it moves when it is opened.

The lock used for locking must have a vertical type latch system.

In addition, the fittings are selected in accordance with the style of the room where it is installed and the personal preferences of the user.

Hinged doors on rollers with their own hands can be made by each user, while the main condition for success in this business will be attentiveness, and the reward is low cost and design, in an individually designed style.

There are few people who want to have an apartment or a house without interior doors. But, almost everyone thought about which doors between rooms are better to install. So that it is both beautiful and functional, and does not take up space.

This is exactly what sliding interior doors are - a slider (diverging, sliding, moving to the side (into a wall, opening, pencil case) in one plane, i.e. doors that ride on rollers, sleds on rails).

Sliding interior doors - pros and cons

From a constructive point of view, there are two types interior doors:

In this case, the door leaf is hung on awnings. Swing doors are traditional and have proven themselves well. They give the room a rich look, but take up a lot of space, which leads to inconvenience in the implementation of interior solutions.

2. Sliding interior doors.

A modern solution that allows you to more rationally use the space of the room.

Sliding doors are divided into two subspecies:

Embedded in the wall(in a pencil case) and working on the principle of a compartment.

Sliding doors hidden in the wall (sliding into the wall, recessed into the wall) have a mechanism that allows you to move the door parallel to the wall.

The principle of operation of sliding doors built into the wall is as follows: rollers are installed on the door leaf, and guides are installed on the doorway (the door will go into the wall) or above the doorway (the door will go behind the wall).

The rollers move along the guides, freeing the doorway for passage.

.

They consist of small lamellas (made of wood or plastic), which, when moved, can significantly save space.

The principle of the device is interesting, but cheap options are not practical. Instructions for assembly and installation of accordion doors are attached by the manufacturer.

The material was prepared for the site www.site

Sliding door advantages:

  • unusual, non-standard solution;
  • the absence of blind areas and problems with the arrangement of furniture;
  • security. The owner of sliding doors is not in danger of knocking on the corner of the door in an unlit room (but, you need to be careful, children can stick their fingers between the wall and the door);
  • such a door will not open with a draft.

Disadvantages of sliding doors:

  • high installation cost. But, doing the work with your own hands, the costs are minimized and no higher than when installing swing doors;
  • bad insulation. The absence of an obstacle to the penetration of noise, light, odors can be eliminated by installing a felt gasket on the end of the door;
  • the complexity of caring for the pencil case, i.e. the place where the sliding door goes with a hidden structure. This problem is solved in two ways. With the help of a vacuum cleaner with the nozzle removed, debris is removed from the pencil case. The second option, more radical, involves removing drywall from one side of the wall. It should be noted that in a residential building, the vacuum cleaner does an excellent job;
  • the complexity of the repair. When installing the sliding door yourself, you can buy a few spare rollers to replace them if necessary.

Sliding door mechanism - sliding systems

As you can see, the main difference between sliding doors and swing doors is the mechanism of their functioning, which determines the options for door movement.

Thus, a sliding mechanism for interior doors can be:

1. Intrawall (hidden mechanism). As the name implies, such a mechanism involves the movement of the door inside the wall. The system of such doors should be implemented at the stage of wall construction, because free space is arranged in the wall - a case for a sliding door. Consequently, the wall becomes thicker by the width of the canister. This somewhat reduces the useful area, but the walls are freed up, near which you can install furniture, hang pictures or put flowers.

2. External (open mechanism). This sliding door system can be installed at any time, because does not require rebuilding the wall. In this case, the door moves along the guides along the wall. Therefore, you need to leave free space on one or two sides of the wall (depending on the number of doors and the direction of their movement).

It should be noted that there are a lot of options for door movement with an external mechanism (see diagram). That allows you to choose the best method for a particular room. Sliding doors, consisting of four leaves, deserve special attention. Here, the inner doors open towards the outer ones. What is especially important when you need to close a wide doorway or niche.

Guides for sliding doors

The last thing worth stopping at before starting the installation of sliding doors is the guide rails (profiles) along which the door moves during operation. They can be placed on top or bottom, or on both sides.

  • top guides. The most popular way. They should be used with a small weight of the door leaf. Guides located at the top function longer and are less at risk of breakage;
  • bottom guides. They are rarely used on their own, as they are easily deformed by simply stepping on them. In addition, the runners will need constant cleaning. And a door devoid of an upper support will not slide smoothly;
  • combined. Used when doors are heavy or for smoother opening.

In this article, we will consider how to install sliding interior doors with an external sliding mechanism.

1. Material

Knowing everything related to the types and mechanisms of the functioning of the door, you can proceed to the purchase of material and the preparation of the tool.

We will need:

  1. the door itself (canvas, box, platbands);
  2. accessories (guide profiles (runners), rollers, handles, locks);
  3. timber 50x30 for fastening the guide.
  4. hardware for fastening;
  5. level;
  6. roulette;
  7. hacksaw with fine teeth;
  8. drill;
  9. chisel.

Advice. With a door weight of more than 27 kg. you need to use 4 rollers, for a lighter one, two are enough.

So that handles and locks do not deform the wall and do not spoil the wallpaper when moving apart, it is worth installing hidden options, i.e. the ones that hit the door.

2. Preparation

At this stage, it turns out exactly where the door will be installed, and in which direction it will open. If two sliding doors are installed side by side, then you need to consider the convenience of opening them.

Advice. Sliding doors can be hung on common long upper skids or hidden in one pencil case. In this case, the width of the pencil case should be sufficient.

Dismantled if necessary old door, and the doorway is brought to the desired state and the door frame is installed, taking into account the gap between the door and the finished floor.

Advice. For residential premises, the gap should be 10 mm. If the final floor has not yet been poured (laid), then you need to take into account the height of the screed, leveling and thickness floor covering.

3. Interior doorway

  • We determine the dimensions of the doorway - the height and width of the door are measured.

Advice. It is better to take measurements at several points (top, middle, bottom). The door height is interchangeable in the closed and open state. This is necessary to take into account possible irregularities on the floor.

  • The beam is installed. To do this, draw a straight line over the top edge of the box. The distance from the box to the line is equal to the width of the guide. A bar is attached exactly to the line. In this case, the middle of the beam should be located above the right side of the interior door frame if the door opens to the right.

Advice. The width of the beam must be sufficient so that after installing the platbands, the door can be freely closed.

  • Upper guide profiles for sliding doors are installed. The skids are mounted on a beam and fastened with hardware.

Advice. To check the correct installation of the skids, you need to run a roller over them. With unhindered sliding, you can proceed to further work. If problems arise, it is best to remove them immediately.

  • The lower skids (rails) are installed. To do this, you can choose one of several options:
  • a part of the subfloor (or parquet, laminate, tile) is selected, and the lower guide is inserted there. The lower rollers will move along it;
  • the guide is installed directly on the floor (parquet, laminate), and in order not to destroy it, a threshold is set;
  • installation of the guide knife. But, since the system of lower guides is rarely used, if necessary, the so-called package knife is installed more often. Its purpose is to hold the door and prevent it from deviating from the given direction of movement.

The non-threshold sliding door system makes it possible to realize the operation of the door without destroying the floor covering (no need to lay rails). The mechanism works thanks to carriages with rollers on ball bearings, which move along guides with shock absorbers and a lower connection. The upper guide is hidden behind a decorative trim, in the same color as the door.

4. Assembly of sliding doors

We hang rollers (roller mechanism) on the upper end of the door.

At the bottom end, at a distance of 15 mm. holes are drilled from both edges. A groove is selected between them along the entire length. Its width is 2 mm. exceeds the width of the knife. The depth is equal to the height of the knife and is usually 10-18 mm. Part of the butt without a groove will play the role of a natural door stop.

5. Installation of fittings for sliding doors

Installation includes the installation of handles and lock tie-in. This must be done carefully so as not to damage the appearance of the door. Often this procedure is entrusted to specialists.

6. Installation of a sliding interior door

The door is installed in the rails. After the door has been moved, limiters (rubber shock absorbers) are inserted into the skids, they will not allow the door to “fall out” of the guides when opening and soften the stop.

7. Sliding door decoration

To make the doorway look beautiful, you need to close all the structural elements. For this, platbands are used. They are installed on door frame and top skids.

But, this is not a prerequisite, because often the structural elements are an integral part of the solution. For example, when using high-tech or modern style.

The installed door in the section will have the form shown in the diagram (drawing).

8. Care and maintenance of sliding doors

In order for the doors not to create problems during operation, you need to properly care for them. For this you need:

  • avoid getting water on the door so that it does not lead (if the canvas is made of wood);
  • keep the guides clean. Debris trapped inside the guides will cause the door to close with difficulty;
  • close the door gently. Do not close the door with force, this will accelerate the wear of the rollers. In the worst case, the limiter may fall out and the door will “fly out” of the guides;
  • check the condition of the hardware from time to time. It is easier to replace the rollers in time than to deform the guide profiles over time;

Conclusion

Proper installation of sliding doors between rooms and timely replacement of component parts is the key to the long-term functioning of any door.

If you set out to create in your apartment unusual design, using components that have already been proven, reliable and well known to you, then be sure to pay attention to interior-type sliding doors. Using them in the interior, you can achieve a more ergonomic placement of interior elements in the apartment space, dividing it into various zones. At the same time, you will maintain the integrity of the premises.

Moreover, making sliding doors with your own hands will not be difficult. All that is needed is an understanding of the process, some basic knowledge of building tools, and some knowledge of construction.

Before using interior structures in the interior, you need to know their strengths and weak sides. Depending on the goals you pursue during the planning of the design, it will be rational to choose a specific type.

Advantages:

  • saving room space;
  • unlike swing structures on hinges, sliding ones do not close under the influence of drafts;
  • The doors are fairly simple and easy to open.

The only feature that needs to be taken into account is the timely maintenance of roller mechanisms, as well as keeping the room clean and tidy in order to avoid dust and dirt getting on the functional elements. One of the unique features of these interior elements is the absence of thresholds. This advantage is debatable, since the sliding complex has in its design lower guides that act as a threshold.

In a well-insulated loggia, you can use interior doors with a top sliding mechanism, which almost never clogs and contributes to easier and quieter movement.

Disadvantages:

  • low sound and heat insulation (increased heat and sound insulation qualities are included in complexes that are equipped with a special seal at the end; the doors themselves drive into a special niche);
  • you will not be able to install this door as an entrance door (on the other hand, a door of such a plan will not look like an entrance door, but is most suitable as an interior solution);
  • the cost of locks and accessories is several times higher than for standard options; such designs are more expensive;
  • installation near the opening of any furniture or large household appliances is not possible.

It should be noted that, in the case of a private house, in which there is a wall of sufficient length, it is possible to make glass sliding doors that lead from the room to the street.

Structure and types

There are a large number of different systems that differ from each other in terms of appearance However, their principle of operation has been and remains unchanged. The structure of these structures is a complex, which consists of a roller mechanism, canvas and guides. The roller mechanism is attached to the Janus, and the rollers move along guides fixed above the opening. Various types of sliding interior janus can have four or more roller mechanisms. In addition, they may include several guides and canvases. Moreover, the sliding type design includes decorative panels, which close the mechanism, platbands, extensions, special fittings.

Among these elements, the following main types can be distinguished:

  • coupe;
  • cascading;
  • one-, four-leaf;
  • radius;
  • "harmonic".

accessories

Due to their unique design, sliding portuns require only a strictly defined type of fittings. Handles and locks for such layout solutions differ in many ways from the standard ones. A characteristic feature of the handles is that they are recessed into the canvas. This is done so that the doors can move to the side without any problems and, if necessary, drive into the allotted niche. Castles, in turn, are also curious. If we compare them with the standard locks that everyone is used to seeing on many doors, then you can see that their mechanism is designed for vertical snapping.

Accessories are usually supplied with the canvas. However, if there is a need to mount locks and handles with your own hands, then you should pay great attention and carefully select them. The best option will contact a specialist so that the latter can assist you or search using the catalog number.

Mechanism

Sliding doors were named so because of the method of opening used, which is ensured by the movement of the rollers along the guides. The guides and roller mechanism must be selected based on the type of sliding structure, the number of leaves and the material of the leaf. The fact is that various systems have a variety of weights and create a different load on the overall structure. Thus, if we compare a single-leaf sliding type structure made of MDF and a double-leaf glass sliding one, then in the first case the weight will be much less and a less complex roller-type mechanism can be selected for it.

In addition, during the installation of specific types of sliding structures (accordion, coupe, cascade), you need to take into account the number of roller mechanisms and choose the right guides. For example, for a cascading opening, you need to install guides with two gutters and 2 roller mechanisms for each blade. It is also important that in order to create cascading doors and compartments, it is imperative to provide at least one gutter in the guides for each leaf.

The convenience and functionality of this type makes it possible to implement a variety of design solutions, both in rooms with large square meters and those with limited space. Such doors make it possible to modify inner space and organically fit into the interior.

Do-it-yourself installation

After you decide on the type of sliding door and get everything you need, you can safely proceed with the installation. In this case, the installation will be considered using the example of a single-leaf sliding door. This is a fairly common and simple door that is easy to install. However, it should be noted that there are some nuances that are characteristic of other species.

First you need to take the following steps:

Make markings for installing guides. This can be done in two ways. The first is to simply measure the height from the floor to the door with a tape measure and add 15-20 mm to it to determine the gap between the door and the floor. Then add to this height the measurements of the guide and roller mechanism. Then you need to put 2-3 marks on the wall and draw a horizontal line between them. The second option implies a certain similarity with the first, however, in this case, the canvas is attached to the opening and the marks are placed along the upper edge. After that, you need to add the height of the guide and roller mechanism to them.

Remember! Before installing the guide, it is necessary to make sure that the marks are in a strictly horizontal position (use a level for this). Otherwise, after installation, the doors will open in any direction without your participation.

Guide rail installation

Now it is necessary to install the guide along the already marked line so that it is mounted strictly under it. Depending on the type of guide, it can be fixed in different ways. Certain types can be attached directly to the wall using dowels, while others can be attached to a wooden beam or special brackets. Actually, the guide should be placed at some distance from the wall, so that when opening the doors, they do not touch the casing and the doorway. You need to carefully select the guides and know how to do the installation correctly. Compartment doors and other sliding door designs that have a floor-to-ceiling height provide for fixing rails to the floor and ceiling.

Remember! In order to prevent the door from breaking when first opened, it is necessary to calculate the length of the guide 2 times the opening. To this length, you need to add 4-5 cm of an additional stroke. In view of this feature, such doors require a lot of free space directly next to the opening.

After you fix the guide, you need to insert the fixing bolt inside the roller carriage and bring the entire roller mechanism inside the guide. For a conventional single-leaf design, only two rollers are needed, however, if you plan to install an "accordion" or a cascade mechanism, then you will need to buy rollers for each of the wings in advance.

Mount brackets for roller carriages in the upper part of the web. They need to be fixed with an indent from the edge of the door of 3-5 mm.

Glass structures

Remember! For such structures, a completely different type of fastener is used. Actually, the fasteners are two steel paws that clamp the glass together and are pulled together thanks to the screws. Moreover, due to the large weight of the glass, it is advised to mount the Janus using two guides (both in the floor and above the doorway).

Once you have installed the hardware and rollers, put the curtain in place, lift it up and screw the bolts into the brackets at the top of the doors. This stage of work is best done with a partner who will lift and hold the door from time to time while tightening the bolts. After carrying out this operation, check the horizontal position of the structure (if necessary, align it by tightening the bolts).

The opening and slopes can be hidden behind trims and architraves, and a decorative strip is hung over the roller mechanism.

At the end of the installation, mount the fittings. Installing a door with a special niche in the wall will be more difficult. In order to do this, it is necessary to create a partition from drywall sheets where the door will go. For doors with a guide in the floor, a groove must be cut out. This will require the use of a perforator. The rest of the installation is a fairly simple and easy process.

A sliding door today will not surprise anyone. Sliding structures are easy to meet everywhere. They are used for any type of doors, including glass and metal, but are more often used as interior doors and wardrobe doors.

In most cases, cabinets are assembled and installed by hand. The assembly and installation scheme is not very complicated. It is important to choose a quality sliding mechanism and strictly follow the chosen scheme.

Advantages and disadvantages of sliding structures

The main advantages of using a sliding structure are the following:

  • Space saving.
  • Ease of installation, which allows you to install them yourself.
  • No need to mount the box.
  • Noiselessness, reliability and durability of work.
  • Reducing the risk of injury.
  • Possibility of installation of dense any size and automatic control system.

The disadvantages include low tightness and the need to install a canister (in some cases).

Sliding door types

Sliding doors are different from sliding doors. The latter can be folding, in which the wings are folded into an "accordion" or "book".

Retractable structures differ in the ways of opening and the number of wings.

  • Sliding doors. One or two sashes move along guides parallel to the wall in one or opposite directions. They are also used in Versailles compartment systems.
  • Cassette. The difference from the first is that the doors are hidden in a pencil case when opened. It is made by hand from drywall, other materials, or purchased complete with a sliding structure.
  • Radius. They differ in their original shape, determined by the curvature of the guides.

  • Cascading. Each sash has its own guides. There are one stationary and several movable canvases.
  • Intra-hole. The device assumes an option when at the moment of opening the two doors move towards each other, and only part of the opening remains for the passage

Rollback system design

Depending on the weight of the canvas, the sliding mechanism may have different design. In a simplified form, the sliding door mechanism consists of the following structural elements:

  • Guide with roller carriages. The number of these elements may be different for different types doors. Made more often from thick-walled aluminum profiles, they are used to fasten leaf flaps in them. Inside the rails, polymer rollers on bearings are installed, which provide the necessary smoothness of opening. Attach to wall, floor or ceiling.
  • Limiters or locking mechanisms. Used to hold the sash in the guide.

Types of sliding systems

Depending on the implementation of the constructive idea, retractable systems can have several guides. More often one or two. The location of the support rollers can also be different:

  • Up. This is the system hanging type. The suspension of the web is carried out only to the upper guide. The load is distributed only on the upper rollers, and the door is opened without touching the floor.
  • At the bottom. This is the support system. All load falls on the bottom rail. The top hanger is not used.

The mechanisms themselves for execution and purpose are divided into the following:

  • Standard. This is the simplest and most common option, which does not cause difficulties when installing with your own hands. As a rule, thresholdless.

Designed for a maximum load of 40 to 120 kg, it has bearings in the design.

  • Open type. It is called so because all structural elements are visible. The suspension is designed for a door with a leaf weighing up to 100 kg. Let's do-it-yourself installation of a pencil case.
  • Hidden type. Structural elements are hidden behind the sash leaf. The bottom rail is not used. Not recommended for glass doors. Due to its simplicity, do-it-yourself installation is allowed.
  • With a conductor. A special device ensures smooth movement of the valves. The closer is installed on any type of door and can work in both directions of movement of the wings.
  • Synchronous. The mechanism provides synchronous opening of the wings in different directions. Designed for doors weighing no more than 80 kg. Additionally, the kit includes tension rollers, cable, fasteners and hooks. Do-it-yourself installation is not recommended due to the complexity of the work.
  • Telescopic. The mechanism provides opening of shutters in one party. There are two parallel rails on which doors are suspended, connected by a synchronous opening device. Suspension of up to three wings is allowed.
  • Rotary. This is a new type of mechanism for interior structures. It has the advantages characteristic of sliding, pendulum and swing doors.

What is needed for installation

Do-it-yourself sliding mechanisms are installed on the door using the following tools and components:

  • Drill, screwdriver, screwdrivers.
  • Fasteners - self-tapping screws, dowels and screws.
  • Roulette.
  • Pencil.
  • Aluminum profile. For standard design"Versailles" is enough to purchase a two-meter bar. Choice of length individual sizes openings are performed using calculations that can be found on the network.

  • Wooden beam. One or two according to the number of upper guides. The thickness is chosen according to the thickness of the canvas, taking into account the dimensions of the mechanism. Usually - 4-5 cm.
  • Limiters. The number of restrictive brackets must correspond to the number of rails multiplied by two.
  • Guides. The slats should be even, and the material durable and lightweight.
  • Rollers with carriages. The retractable block is the most important part of the system. The service life and functionality of the entire system depends on its reliability and quality. This must be taken into account when choosing.
  • Decorative caps.

After preparing all this, proceed to installation on the sash. Installation can be carried out both on their own and with the involvement of specialists.

Mounting

The scheme and installation order are as follows:

  • The first step is to mark the position of the guides. The rails are installed 15-20 cm above the door, taking into account the height of the roller mechanism. Height is measured from the floor. Horizontal lines are drawn on the wall, which are checked by the level.

Irregularities can lead to spontaneous rollback of the wings, especially when installing the Versailles compartment system.

  • Then a beam is attached under the guide rails. It is mounted above the drawn marking lines. Dowels are used.
  • Guides are attached to the beam. Sometimes they are placed directly on the wall. Be sure to make a small gap between the wall / beam so that the sash does not touch it. The length of the rail must exceed the width of the widow opening.

  • A block of roller carriages with fasteners is inserted into the rails.
  • Brackets are installed to lock the roller mechanisms. They are placed 5 mm from the edge of the canvas.

On the video you can see the installation of the mechanism with your own hands:

  • Next, the canvas is screwed to the brackets with screws. When installing the Versailles compartment system, special attention is paid to the absence of gaps. In the Versailles system, they often already appear due to the synchronous movement of the rollers.
  • Plugs are put on the rails from the ends, and the sliding block is closed with platbands or decorative strips.

Installation of a sliding structure and an automatic control system is not so complicated. If there are skills, the scheme is observed, then any uninformed person can put the sliding block with their own hands.

The quality of components is important. Each element plays a role - a sliding block, a guide, a suspension, a stopper and even screw connections. Italian products of high quality are very popular. They provide exceptionally easy movement of the leaf and tight closing of the wings.

IN modern houses and apartments more and more often in Lately instead of not very convenient hinged structures, compartment doors are installed. They allow you to rationally use the space of the room, enliven the interior, and are also the most suitable option for people with disabilities. In addition, they can be installed not only in the doorway, but also in any niche. You can do this with your own hands, thus saving a significant amount, the main thing is to find time, materials and tools for such a useful and exciting process.

Required accessories

The sliding door, like any other design, consists of special elements. In order to install it, you need to purchase accessories. The choice of necessary parts depends on the type of sliding system and the type of door leaf. The door leaf can be solid and consist of one material, or it can consist of several materials. Regardless of the materials used, any prefabricated leaf (sash) consists of profiles of different sizes and purposes. The frame has top, bottom, two side and intermediate (the number depends on the components) profiles.

The upper horizontal profile consists of two grooves. The lower part of the groove holds the material, and the upper part with a round groove is designed for screwing in a self-tapping screw holding the vertical profile of the door. The lower horizontal profile, like the upper one, consists of two grooves, but the lower part of it has longer side walls designed to hide the rollers.

The horizontal intermediate profile consists of two identical grooves. It is used as a link between materials. Vertical profiles perform not only a supporting function and have a special groove for supporting the material, but also needed to move the sash. This element is made in the form of a pen and has various modifications.

To set the sash in motion, you need a set of guides and rollers. To maintain the direction of movement of the sash, a pair of asymmetric rollers are used, installed in the upper part of the sash and located at different ends of the frame. A pair of rollers is installed in the lower part in the same way. They are the main driving force, they account for the weight of all the materials used.

Without guides, the movement of the valves is impossible. They usually come in two pieces: top and bottom. They differ in form and purpose. The structure of the upper profile depends on the type of system. If a top support sliding system is used, then a closed profile consisting of one groove is used. But most often used to install a compartment door lower support system and therefore the profile shape has a slightly different look.

It consists of two grooves identical in shape and depth. Thanks to him, the door moves in a given direction. The lower guide is designed for the movement of the rollers and is a profile consisting of 3 grooves. Each pair of rollers has its own groove (narrow). The middle wide groove performs a separating function.

In order for the door not to leave when moving outside, stoppers are used. Their shape depends on the type of sliding system. These elements are installed in the guides.

materials

Exist different kinds materials used in the manufacture of compartment doors. For panel types of doors, consisting of a whole sheet, one material is used. For composite (paneled), as a rule, several types of materials are used, which are placed in a frame of a certain shape. The cheapest and most affordable material is chipboard. From it you can make both a whole canvas and a frame for other materials.

Doors with chipboard parts are not very suitable for installation in a children's room, since the composition contains resins that can cause harm to health due to their volatility. Do not also forget that chipboard is essentially pressed sawdust, so the edge of this material needs to be closed. Most often, chipboard is faced with PVC film or veneer.

The safer material is MDF, since no resins are used in its production, wood particles are connected thanks to paraffin or lignin. From it you can make canvases with figured contours. Thanks to this property, it can be used both as a whole canvas and as a constituent element of a curly frame.

Often door leafs are made of solid wood. This material is expensive and requires special skill in the work. It is used as a whole sheet, and can also be used as a frame or individual panels with curly edges.

A good alternative to solid wood can be a material such as plywood. It is obtained by gluing sheets of veneer, and for strength when gluing, they are stacked in a special way, the fibers of one sheet lie perpendicular to the fibers of another sheet. The surface of plywood door panels is most often laminated, giving the desired color and structure of natural wood.

Unlike wood, plywood is easier to use and much cheaper than solid wood. Recently, such material as polycarbonate has been used as a door leaf. Lightweight and durable polycarbonate sheets can be used as an insert in combination with other materials and as a separate sheet. This material, in order to avoid the disappearance of transparency, it is recommended to close profiles on all sides. It is a good alternative to glass.

Very often, a mirror and glass are used as a door leaf. The mirror surface of the doors helps to visually expand the space of the room.

It perfectly reflects both natural and artificial light, so that the darkest corners of the room are always illuminated. Mirror and glass, as a rule, are fixed on all sides with profiles. Both materials work well together.

How to calculate the dimensions yourself?

In order to make compartment doors with your own hands, you will need to take measurements. The width and height of the doors depends on the size of the opening in which they will be installed. Value optimal width doors is in the range of 60-90 cm. It is possible to make doors with different widths, there is a slight variation in the range of 50-110 cm.

When making a door leaf, it is better to adhere to the specified limit, and there are reasons for this. A width of less than 50 cm will have a bad effect on the movement of the door leaf, skew and even falling out of the grooves are possible. An interior door with a width of 110 cm or more is very difficult to move, so this width is not used.

To calculate the required sash width, if you plan to install two sashes, you need to measure the opening and add the profile width to the resulting value, and then divide this number by the number of sashes, that is, by 2. In a specific example, it looks like this. The width of the opening is 1800 mm, and the width of the profile that will be used as a handle is 24 mm. We calculate: 1800+24/2=912 mm.

The width of the profile and the opening is chosen arbitrarily; in the calculations, you should rely on your measurements and the width of the profile you have chosen. If you plan to install three doors in the opening, then the calculation of the width is done a little differently. To the width of the opening, you need to add the width of the profile multiplied by 2 and divide the resulting value by 3. As case study we take the same width of the opening and profile: 1800 + 24 * 2/3 = 616 mm.

The sash height can be calculated as follows. We measure the height of the opening and subtract 40-45 mm from the resulting value. The length of the side profiles is equal to the height of the wings. The length of the horizontal profiles depends on the purchased handles located on each side of the sash, or rather on their width. To calculate the length of the profiles, you need to subtract twice the width of the handle from the width of the sash, the resulting value is the length of the horizontal profile.

Now you can start calculating the width of the infill. In order to make the calculations clearer, you can use the obtained values. The correct filling width is calculated as follows: 912 (616) -24 * 2 = 864 (568) mm. From the width of the sash, subtract twice the width of the profile (the handles are installed on both sides of the sash).

We consider the height of the sash in a similar way, namely, from the height value we subtract the width of the upper and then the lower profile, and as a result we obtain the required number. This height calculation is suitable if the canvas is one-piece, which does not require seals. If seals are used, then twice the width of the seal is subtracted from the value obtained, since it is located both at the top and at the bottom of the web.

As a rule, silicone rubber is used as a sealant, its thickness is 1 mm, and twice the value, respectively, is 2 mm. Visually, this calculation can be represented as follows: height 2500-10-38-2=2450 mm. Where 10 is the width of the top profile and 38 is the width of the bottom profile.

If the door is made of component parts, the thickness of the intermediate profile must be taken into account. How many profiles - so many values \u200b\u200bhave to be taken into account.

How to do it yourself at home?

Making compartment doors with your own hands is a rather time-consuming process, but nothing is impossible, the main thing is to take into account some details.

Rectangular sliding doors

First of all, you need to decide on the filling of the door. The easiest way to work with chipboard panels and plywood, but you can also choose a solid wood, MDF board (preferably with a raw surface). It is easier to buy a finished canvas of the right size, but you can do it yourself. To do this, it is necessary to prepare the tools that will be required in the future when installing the assembled structure and some additional materials.

You will need: drill, end saw, grinder or sandpaper, special film for surface coating and varnish (for wood).

First, the prepared material is cut to the right sizes, and the ends are polished. A coating in the form of a film or veneer is applied to the MDF board. Then holes for handles are cut out in it, and attachment points for the roller mechanism are also prepared. The surface is cleared of dust pollution. The wooden canvas is treated with an impregnation that prevents rotting processes, and then covered with a layer of varnish.

To facilitate the door leaf, you can cut holes in the workpiece in the form of a rectangle or square. Insert into them right size blanks made of glass, mirror or lighter plywood. First, a figure is drawn on the canvas, and then the middle is cut with a jigsaw. This must be done carefully, starting from the corner of the marked figure.

The ends of the hole formed are treated with a special tape, which is fixed on the material with an iron. Selected inserts are held with a glazing bead. It is possible to assemble a door leaf from profiles and different materials. It is necessary to purchase ready-made profiles and materials for insertion, which are assembled in a certain order.

All profiles are cut according to pre-calculated dimensions strictly at an angle of 90C.

In vertical handle profiles, you need to do through holes. In the upper part, to fix the upper roller, 2 holes are drilled, stepping back from the edge of 7 mm, the diameter of one is larger than the diameter of the other.

This is done so that the self-tapping screw easily passes through a larger hole and is fixed at the bottom. Then 4 holes are drilled. The first pair of holes is made after a 7 mm offset, and the second after a 42 mm offset from the edge. Now you can start assembling all the fillings. A silicone seal without overlap is put on glass and mirror inserts around the perimeter. On safety mirrors reverse side tape needs to be applied. Prepared components are inserted into the profiles.

For a strong fit of the material, when connecting the inserts to the profiles, use a rubber mallet. We attach vertical handle profiles to the assembled canvas and tighten the structure with fasteners. First, we twist it in the upper part, for this we take the roller and fix it with a screw in the vertical profile.

In the lower part, we first fix the profile through the far hole, twisting it all the way, and then attach the lower rollers to the profile. To do this, insert the plate with the roller inside the lower profile and move it to the vertical stand.

There is a hole in the roller plate, it must be aligned with the hole in the vertical profile and screwed with a hexagon while pressing the roller. The door leaf is ready for installation.

Radius sliding doors

Making radius sliding doors is much more difficult than regular rectangular doors. Unlike ordinary doors, they have smoothed corners. The canvas can be of various shapes and curvature. An aluminum profile is used to move along the surface. Door leaves can be made of tempered glass, plastic and other materials. It will not work to make such a canvas at home, so it is better to order ready-made doors and all the accessories for them.

Step-by-step instruction

You can install compartment doors anywhere. Most often, with their help, they equip a dressing room. It must be remembered that the installation of the structure should be carried out after repair. After collecting the door leaves, you can install guides. You need to start with the top guide. It, as a rule, is mounted on a mortgage beam or directly on the ceiling. The guide should be located at a distance of at least 10 cm from the shelves.

To install the lower rail, you need a laser level or a plumb line, but you can do without them. We lay the lower profile on the surface without fixing and we wind the door leaf first into the upper guide, and then into the lower profile, having previously installed the stoppers in it. Having fixed the canvas in a strictly vertical position, you can screw the lower profile. Now you can insert the second canvas. On both wings we glue a strip in the side parts that softens the blows. The doors are ready to go.
