Mounting

After welding the frame, it must be cleaned with a grinder at the joints from burrs. Then it is coated with an anti-corrosion solution and painted. Boards with thermal insulation are sewn inside the metal profiles, outside it is covered with sheet metal. Brackets with movable rollers are attached to the upper corners of the frame.

After that, guides for the future sash are attached to the ceiling. They should also be mounted as evenly as possible, rechecking the horizontal level, parallelism and perpendicularity of the doorway. Then the sash is temporarily installed in the opening in order to mark the place of attachment of the lever-spring mechanism.

After the operation of the gate and the smooth movement of the leaf along the guides are checked, it is removed, the springs are mounted, and they are adjusted. Lastly, a rubber sealant is attached to the frame around the perimeter to seal the seams and soft close, a door lock and an opening handle are installed.

With careful and proper installation, as well as reliable protection against moisture, gates with a similar design can last for decades. And their repair can be limited only to lubricating the moving parts of the mechanism, the lever system, support rollers and replacing the rubber seal. For prevention, lubrication can be carried out every season, and the outer rubber gasket can be lubricated with silicone before the onset of cold weather to protect against freezing.

For internal thermal insulation of such gates, you can use various materials, which are also used for wall insulation: mineral wool, polystyrene foam or polystyrene foam. The last two are more effective, since they do not shrink over time, but they can be fire hazardous, so it is better to choose non-combustible types.

Now the rail should be welded to the plate with holes, an 8 cm gap should be left between the lower edge of the cross member and the axis of the guide. To the other end of the rail, weld a piece of channel, with an indent of 12 - 15 centimeters. Next, the channel must be bolted to the ceiling bar.

Step by step manufacturing instructions

  1. The box installed in the opening is the main power element of the gate. It is the main load of the entire garage door system. The box is made of a wooden beam 100 * 50 mm or a thick metal corner. The width of the corner shelf should be 1.5 times wider than the thickness of the sash, that is, if the thickness of the sash is 40 mm, then we take the corner with shelves of at least 60 mm. The details of the box are installed with the letter P, two on the sides of the opening, one on top. If we use wood, then we fasten it with 100 mm self-tapping screws into pre-prepared wooden mortgages. In the case of using a corner, we make fasteners on anchor bolts, however, they are perfect for the first case.
  2. Let's start assembling the frame for the gate leaf. profile pipe cut to size according to your drawing. We lay out the frame elements on a flat horizontal surface and, after checking the right angles with a square, we grab the joints. Before fully welding the joints, it is necessary to check the length of the frame diagonals with a piece of cord or a tape measure. If necessary, you can correct the product and proceed to the full welding of the joints. We weld scarves at the corners of the frame, as shown in the drawing, to enhance the rigidity of the structure.
  3. We clean the welds from burrs and the entire frame from rust with a grinder.

  4. We cover the frame with an anti-corrosion primer and paint with alkyd enamel in 2 layers with intermediate drying.
  5. We weld to the upper corners at the end, brackets with rollers.
  6. We put it on the frame and fasten the profile sheet with self-tapping screws with a drill and a rubber washer in increments of 15–20 cm. We fasten the sash opening handle to the M8-M10 bolts. This operation can be done at the end of the installation work, which significantly reduces physical exercise on workers when checking the operation of mechanisms.
  7. On the ceiling we fix the guides for the rollers. We check their parallelism and perpendicularity to the opening.
  8. Temporarily install the sash in the opening to mark the attachment point of the lever-spring mechanism. We remove the sash and fasten the levers along the marks to its ends with self-tapping screws.
  9. We install the sash and check the operation of the gate. If everything is in order - the gate opens and closes easily, then remove the sash and fasten the levers to the bolted connections.
  10. Installing and adjusting the springs in place and checking the functionality.
  11. Bonding a rubber seal around the perimeter of the frame to seal gaps.
  12. Door lock installation.

How and what to insulate

The classic heaters used for these purposes are mineral wool and polystyrene foam boards. Styrofoam compares favorably with mineral slabs in that it does not shrink over time. We will insulate the sash with foam plastic 40 mm thick and density 20. First, we insert the foam plastic without fastening into the sash in order to cut off all the necessary cuts to size. Styrofoam sheets are glued to the profile sheet with inside between the spars on the "liquid nails". Next, we fasten the inner plane of the sash with a sheet of galvanized sheet with self-tapping screws with a drill.
